PostPosted: Thu 17 Mar 2016, 16:56    Post subject:  Rednotebook - webkit issue

Hi! Using TahrPup 6.0.5 on Lenovo S205. I installed Rednotebook and it's dependency python-webkit_1.1.8-3.1. All worked fine -- until one day Rednotebook decided to stop working - ?!?!

Terminal output -
Code:
sh-4.3# rednotebook
INFO     chardet not found. 'utf-8' encoding will be assumed
INFO     Writing log to file "/root/.rednotebook/rednotebook.log"
INFO     MathJax location: http://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/MathJax.js
ERROR    Webkit was not found. It can be found in a package with the name python-webkit or pywebkitgtk.
sh-4.3#

So -- i searched for missing packages for python-webkit_1.1.8, and the result stated that i'm missing the library /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/webkit/webkit.so -- but that file IS in that directory. I made sure the file was executable, no difference. This is a bit strange because i've long used this program in TahrPup. Any ideas?

A logical guess would suggest MathJax overwrote some part of RedNotebooks dependency set, namely python-chardet.

MathJax? What is that?

Perhaps i need to install an older version of rednotebook or python-webkit? Not sure what to do....i don't recall updating any related software to cause it to fail....

A simple search will enlighten you.

As for the error, what's your /root/.rednotebook/rednotebook.log say?

Why not reinstall python-chardet?

Well - i did BRIEFLY check he 'net for info MathJax. I see basically what it is but IDK if it came with Puppy or what....

Anywho, i can't find any already-installed package of python-chardet to reinstall. I tried installing python-chardet_2.0.1 and python-chardet-whl_2.2.1-2 -- still no joy.

Here is the content of /root/.rednotebook/rednotebook.log:
Code:

2016-03-17 19:29:32,517 DEBUG    sys.stdout logging level: 20
2016-03-17 19:29:32,518 INFO     Writing log to file "/root/.rednotebook/rednotebook.log"
2016-03-17 19:29:32,536 INFO     MathJax location: http://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/MathJax.js
2016-03-17 19:29:32,562 ERROR    Webkit was not found. It can be found in a package with the name python-webkit or pywebkitgtk.

Would be nice to know which version of RedNotebook you're running.. PPM lists v1.4.

If newer, yours came from where.. Here?

1.4 -- no go
tried rednotebook 1.3 pet -- no go
Code:
sh-4.3# rednotebook
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/rednotebook", line 11, in <module>
    import rednotebook.journal
ImportError: No module named rednotebook.journal

got the debian of 1.11 from debian (same as your link) - no go -- still have that missing file webkit.so file that is not missing. Reinstalled python webkit, nope.
Started TahrPup in RAM (i.e., pfix=ram) -- it's already there??? Good grief, did i reinstall it when it was there? If so, still - it ran for weeks, then POOF!
Sad

You realize that begins with a lowercase L, correct?

How many copies of webkit.so are onboard?

yeah, i copied and pasted your commandline.

2 copies in system files, one is
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/webkit/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/webkit/webkit.so
and the other is
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/webkit/webkit.so

Uh, you first need to locate the binary in question: which rednotebook

You'd then issue: ldd /usr/bin/rednotebook

.. And pass the results along.

==

As for that double take, do they share the same md5?

The first sounds alien and outta place. I'd remove it!

I doubt this should exist >> /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/webkit/usr

What else is in it?
Code:
ls -la /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/webkit/usr

i went back to the one currently in the updated repos, 1.4 - and only that one.

It's in the usual, /usr/bin -- same results, no such file or directory.

It's still screaming for webkit even though it's installed. Interesting checking all dependencies yields NO missing dependencies or libraries now, although program still not running.

I use ROXterm
