@MarcHoppe: Please state the brand name and model number of your adapter.

I don't own a [0bda:818b] rtl8192eu device, but I have compiled the driver for Slacko 630 and posted it here. Click the small green DOWNLOAD box.

No. I want the information printed on the box or the adapter. For example, is it a D-Link DWA-131?

Glam Hobby is not very helpful. Install the PET and see what happens.

Well that's all the information I have. I threw away the packaging and the driver disk only has generic information. The salient point is the chipset is Realtek. Let me switch over to that computer and I'll try the pet package. Thanks for your help.

Ok the driver has worked. The adapter is seen by the system and it finds my network but the configuration has failed. I'll keep working on it.......Thanks again for the driver. :)

Edit: Ok I've almost got it. The network is configured and the WiFi icon shows green in the toolbar with full bars. However when I try to connect using either FireFox or Seamonkey I can not make a connection. I'm missing something somewhere....going back to try some more.

Turned off the Firewall. That wasn't it....every few seconds there is a red "up/down" arrow that flashes next to the WiFi icon. That must be a clue but everything seems to be configured correctly. Hmmmm what to try next......Windows 10 computer sitting right next to that one is on WiFi working perfectly so it's not the network. I've missed a setting somewhere....

Run the command: ifconfig. Does your adapter have a valid IP address on your network?

Open the file /etc/resolv.conf. What does it contain?

IIRC, Slacko 630 has problems with the firewall. Have you made a save file/folder yet?

Could you give me a download link for:

dkms-rtl8192EU_linux_v4.2.4_8819.20130822_beta.tar.gz

wlan0 inet addr :169.25. etc so it does have an IP address. I'm unable to find /etc/resolv.conf. permission denied from the terminal.

I have turned off the Firewall.

I did save the Wlan0 config but I'm not sure what you mean by save file/folder.

I'll see if I can find the link again. I still have the file in my download folder.

An IP address that starts with 169.254 is bogus. You never received a valid IP address for your network. So the adapter or your WiFi connection manager is not working.

Which connection manager are you using?

I'm using "Network Wizard" right below "Frisbee'. I'm using DHCP to find the IP.

See if this link will work for you:

I did it again:

"Network Configuration of wlan0 Successful"

I might be putting my network password in the wrong place. Does it go in the Profile Name or ESSID lines ?

Ok I want to thank you very much for your help and patience. I've got to shut down for awhile (I've got four computers up and running now. I'm getting dizzy).

I checked the IP from one of my other wireless connected computers and indeed the address reported by Slacko is incorrect. Something I'm doing wrong no doubt. I have got wireless running on an older laptop running Ubuntu and as I said it was working on the older desktop when it was running PClinuxOS so I just need to take a break and come back at it fresh.

Thanks again for your help. It is very much appreciated !! :D

When you shut down any Puppy for the first time, you get an offer to create permanent storage - either a save file or a save folder. Have you not done this?

IIRC, there were reports that Slacko 630 networking did not work until you created permanent storage.

I have a couple of those adapters I purchased a month ago, that use the Realtek-RTL8192EU driver. I didn`t use the drivers disk, I got my drivers from this link: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... /reserve-7 (on the right side of the page) No problems installing to Ubuntu 14.04, Elementary Ubuntu, and Windows 7, but, as hard as I tried, I couldn`t get the install accomplished on my Slacko 5.7 machine, and was hoping I would find a pet here, rcrsn51, do you think that 630 pet would work for my machine?(Slacko 5.7 full install to one partition, ext4, that`s the only thing on the hd)

@mtzlplex: WiFi drivers are kernel-specific. A Slacko 630 driver will NOT work in Precise 571.

[Edit] The correct driver is posted farther down.

Please report back. I believe that this thread is the first discussion about rtl8192eu and we need some systematic testing.

rcrsn51, I downloaded the pclos code, installed it, and ran Frisbee. Frisbee scans for available networks, but does not find my wireless. Unless I am missing something, I guess this one is not for me.

Please do the following:

Run the command: iwconfig. Is your wireless adapter listed?

Run: ifconfig wlan0 up. Is there an error message?

Run: iwlist wlan0 scan. Do you get a list of your wireless neighbourhood?

[Edit] I misread your original post. You need Slacko 570, not Precise 571!
