How to use Edimax EW-7711UAn USB wireless in Puppy 6.0.2?

Hello,
I have an edimax ew-7711uan and because it hasn't the module to get it work, i downloaded the drivers from here.
Then i transferred it to the computer / (root) and extracted it in a folder. The problem is that i don't know how to install it. Can someone help me?

What I did was to get the driver bundle, extracted the XP driver, then used the Windows wrapper to get the wireless to work. I see that I have 4 files in the folder -- don't think that I needed all of them, but they're small so I don't care:

I have been migrating systems over to lupusuper1/Sulu1 (reported to support it directly), but haven't done the laptop yet (I'm running from the Edimax under 5.28 right now). The reported difference is kernel 3.x

extracted the XP driver,

It says me:

In a modern Puppy like Tahrpup 602, there should rarely be a need for Windows drivers.

Open a terminal and run the command: lsusb

Identify the vendor:product ID codes for your device. They may be 148f : 7601.

Are you using the PAE or non-PAE version of Tahrpup?

Try to plug it into a different USB port.

What is the make and model of the computer?

I tried it but nothing. The pc is old. It has a RAGE PRO 128 4x graphics card, an old American megatrends motherboard, 2GB RAM and a 290GB hard disk.
I think the problem is that it needs the rt3070 module but i don't know how to install it. I'm newbie to linux and don't know much.

According to wikidevi, there are two versions of the Edimax EW-7711UAn. V1 identifies as [7392:7711] and is recognized by Tahrpup using the rt2800usb driver.

Your newer V2 identifies as [7392:7710] and apparently has different chips. There is a Mediatek driver called mt7601Usta, but it doesn't recognize your device yet.

I have modified the driver and posted it here. Click the small grey Download button on the left.

HOWEVER, this is for Tahrpup 602 PAE. It will NOT work in your non-PAE version.

The interface is named ra0, not the usual wlan0.

I own a TP-LINK TL-WN727N v4 adapter that uses this driver and works fine. But I cannot promise that it will work with your Edimax.

You might consider getting the "improved" source code from -

and you will find that this supports an additional 5 device ID's.

californiac, I suggest your next move is to download and install Tahrpup 6.0.2-PAE

@tempestuous: The PET originally posted above was made from the vendor sources along with patches that I found somewhere and the Edimax ID.

I have also built the github version and it works fine with my TP-LINK. So I have changed the link above to download the new version. It supports the Edimax.

EDIT: the mt7601Usta driver is reported as crashing under Slacko 5.7.
So for MediaTek MT7601U wifi devices, Tahrpup 6.x is currently the only option.

No longer - LxPup-15.06 has the kernels after 3.19 driver.....using it now

I dropped this onto an ISObooter flash drive and it worked fine with two minor issues.

1. I had to run "depmod -a" before my mt7601u adapter was detected.

2. At shutdown, I wanted to make a combo setup where the main Puppy files are on the hard drive. In previous Puppies, you are given the option to copy them. This time I had to copy them manually. After that, it worked correctly. Maybe it was because I made a save folder instead of a save file?
