Puppy-builder lets user choose its own applications....

Puppy-builder lets user choose its own applications.... Because himself failed installing them ?
Please i want to be desapproved :!:
Don't consider the forum is for roots only. Users are root with Puppy, but they remain firstly users, needing help and sometimes (often) ignoring programming
Puppy is not the competition of the best developer, it's a public OS. Take care of people who downoad your ISOs and respect them. Don't leave once your Puppy published, please.

That's a bit terse. Perhaps you could explain a bit more?

I am preparing a real situation

I am preparing a real situation, to show how huge are the applications from the PPM
'terse'??? reverso >> 'laconique' yes, it is ! :)
but people making pets from applications understand the problem... Making pets was a real work, trim the fat and useless stuff. Users, furthermore newbies are unable to do it, so they get MBs as tons...
Keeping 'terse', for new distros, if old pets don't work, the Puppy builder shoud make new ones, to keep puppy as efficient as before.
Not fulling RAM with Fat, useless fat.
This topic creates the debate, to get opinions from developers, and users (if any wants to give it's own).
Sorry for my english, i use a translator... could i speak french here, to better tell what I mean...

Clementine as an example

Clementine as an example, 420MB in your RAM !
If you just bought a laptop, it will do it, but for your Acer with 512MB you will cry :? and the browser is not yet loaded..
At home, generally wife and children use the brand new laptop ( windows 10?) and the father get in his secret area to linux with the old laptop saved fom destruction by Puppy. Untill now, that was not a problem, Puppy was the distro for that. Is it the end ?
scabz :P made a pet for precise Puppy, and provides it free of charge (6MB) on the forum. Quid de Slacko .
I think that several Puppy programmers did the same, each one from his side..
But clementine should be in the puppy-slacko repository. and no more than 6MB, not 420MBs
2012, dogbert was yet asking for a pet version Slacko,
:) do it yourself dogbert !
 do it yourself Pelo, you are in Slacko now !
How many do it yourself users Slacko will count end of 2016 ? only some efficient and well known VIPs of the forum.
Semme had success in doing one SFS for Clementine version Slacko. He withdraw it....

Pelo,

slacko-5.9.3.iso: 168 M
slacko64-5.9.1.iso: 199 M
slacko64-6.3.0.iso: 234 M

unicorn-6.0.iso: 135 M

Why not using Unicorn instead of Slacko?

And why not using SFS Modules instead of installing Packages?

Lots of these SFS Modules are to find at the LazY Puppy Repository at smokey01.com.

What couldn't be found there was either taken from Forum attached Links or created by downloaded packages (PPM) and combined into an SFS Module (using PaDS) - which is really simple and easy to do. Though, I probably could also upload some new SFS Modules (next Month - if there would be any request).

Your SFS are well prepaired, as pets were nice work jadis

Lazy Puppy is not concerned,RSH you got my thanks for your nice work in the german forum. Your SFS are well prepaired, as pets were nice work generally.
You are not persons who don't know how to do, you are persons who make us profit of your knowledge (pets peasy... amng others).
I am aiming at the opposite people, those who fail to install and they tell the users, "free to you" ... as if it was an assumed choice...
They ask poor users to compile :!:
UBuntu software is to fit (big) Ubuntu. Puppy was born to get Linux running in RAM, it was its Power, its Trade Mark, the reason why Puppy Linux got famous. . Steps backwards are not good
If Puppy is run only by compilers, my ten fingers are two many to count them..
Myself i use the pets and SFS done by Others, simply because i don't know to do it..Using Puppy is for running applications, i don't practice Puppy as a developer, but as a user.

Pelo, I think most will agree if you are running puppy linux you should be prepared to get your hands a little dirty. Any Linux is a work-in-progress.You get
a whole lot more from it than you pay for it.

Hello all.

I agree with polekat. Dirty hands prove you're doing something!

@pelo:
The answer to your question in the title is a resounding "NO".

Woof-CE, the "Puppy-Builder" presents you with a set of programs and utilities that
you cannot change unless you have a PhD in Puppy, or lots and lots of experience.

With the "Puppy-Builder", you build a "Barry-Kauler" type of Puppy, with the
programs and utilities he thinks the Puppy needs. This has to be said.

If you disagree with his choices, you're on your own. You can rely on this Puppy
community to some extent to find other programs, but mostly you become an
explorer and you have to acquire the various skills involved in remastering -- or
create your own Woof process.

What is Puppy Linux for ?

does Ford was buiding cars only to be unmounted, disabled, checked or for people driving through the country for the pleasure of all the families.
Is the farmer there to product meat, wheat, and vegetables or to repair it's 'Massey-Ferguson' all day long, by pleasure ?
Are you using Puppy for getting a student certificate of aptitude, or to release Puppy Linux to million of persons which Windows XP is dying and for who buying a new computer is not the priority of their budget ?
It's give a chance to XP users to surf the web without spending a penny :!:
But don't ask them to learn compiling in few days.

some pupils will never enter the active life, they will teach.
Some teachers have equipped some classerooms with Puppy Linux in low-age children. Who don't know Linux.
Assistance (LTS support) is assumed. If you don't want to support users, keep your puplets at home, don't publish them..
In the contrary, casting the Puplets for puppy-builders who answer you is a pleasure. Because tasting is not watching the paint dry.

Hello all :D
I hear what your saying Pelo ! And thanks for keeping the news you provide
on sharing what you find on older pups !

I agree about the ppm wanting to install more depends than is really needed ! And the fact that that some software doesn't run after ppm says
all depends have been met !

But also I am concerned with the ram being used by some of the newer
puppies ! And even more concerned with the amount of cpu usage !

CPU usage is way to high on a lot of newer puppies !
Some as high as 20-30 %
when you look back at puppy 4 and early 5 builds these values are much
more acceptable !

I been using a lucid build that idles at 0.7% not 20-30%

Also I agree with LazY Puppy and mikeb !
The modular approach is better way to go !

Pelo all you have to say is you like Puppy Linux to bare minimal with the apps it comes with but instead you give us threads that are frankly painful to try and understand and watching paint dry is frankly more fun when you waffle. Keep it to the point.:)

Hi, partsman.

Yeah, that's a great concept. I used it a couple of times.
I wish Puppy had something like that for Joe and Joanne User.

Yes would be nice to see something like this with puppy :D

One puppy core ! And the user decides T2 or deb or Slackware even Arch !
The type of WM etc.

All from a website that puts it all together !

Just a cool Idea ! :D

load 'pupsave' at reboot. with Porteus

as you are speaking about porteus, i never had success to load 'pupsave' at reboot.
""PUPPY" POWERED BY PEOPLE
AKITA LINUX kernel 2.6.32.28"
That is the subject of this topic. Read the forum topics around 2011, how numerous ideas were lightning..
To fit the hardware is important, but without new software, brand new computers will not do more than escaped from trash ones.
