Official static build is a little bigger than a compiled version but should play latest formats such as opus. Version 0.7.2 assembled as .pet package for various Pups including Wheezy, Precise, Slackware 14.0 Slackos. Installs under /usr/local/deadbeef

Plugins which give errors or which are non-standard in Puppy have been removed. NLS locales are not split off as a separate package.

Does NOT run in Wary - invalid pointer error

NOTE:- Other DeaDBeeF packages by other people are available. These may be compiled versions or have different configurations. Mine are uploaded for illustration or experimentation purposes and to invite feedback or comments.

Installed your "big" deadbeef-static-0.7.0-i686.pet here on a liveCD session of Precise 5.7.1 Retro - all working dandy. Dare I say, maybe even a bit faster opening and lighter on CPU than previous (0.6.1.3?) builds - which were already about the least resource-hungry music players I've found.

Getting to be about time for another remaster, then...

Ok deadbeaf does the job for audio, excepted that the song goes on when deadbeaf has been shut.. Perhaps settings in Pupjibaro are wrong. I am searching what is wrong.

I think this setting might work for you;

Menu>Edit>Preferences>GUI/Misc tab>Player tab - and un-tick "Close minimizes to tray".

I actually like that feature, allowing Deadbeef to run in the background and be controlled across multiple desktops without using up precious workspace on the taskbar.

DeaDBeeF Audio Player 0.7.2 tested at home with Ob precise (Build Vicmz). It's a Player that plays all my songs, from oldest to newest
DeaDBeef in Quickpet Precise is version 0.6.0.

Use DeaDBeef for Puppies without Mplayer installed

If you have to go with a linux audio player, I think the best in terms of sound is mplayer, the others are all crap in terms of sound quality in my opinion.

Mplayer and Gnome were the default tools for audio and video, i had nothing to change in the previous Puppies. Unfortunately our Puppy-builders seem to have a different opinion.

Okay, I need to explore Deadbeef more. Looks promising, doesn't sound too bad but the equalizer seems to be a total overkill. Need to spend some time to get the best settings for my setup One huge plus is that it can proceed from the playlist position where it exited from.
Edit: I take back what I said about the sound, it is BAD, mplayer much better.

nic007, i was fully satisfied too with Mplayer, never a claim in the forum, the topic was not even created in Multimedia section, in spite of Mplayer has been the default player for Puppy for years. The repair shop was ennoying. So they decided to change it
However, DeaDBeef is a good one, everywhere well appreciated by the professional of audio apps on he web. You should not be deceived.

My computer is hooked up to hi-fi equipment. I hate poor sound and mplayer is passable but not any of the other linux players I've tried. I guess if you listen through computer speakers (as most probably do) it will be difficult to rate/experience the true sound quality. Again, I'm only rating in terms of sound quality and not other features.

Sure the sound quality will be dependent on the worse element of the chain. Computers speakers generally would not be worth of using huge ogg pieces of music. At home use your Cds on your Hi-Fi material,
What about car speakers , Ogg an flac are they too much ?

DeaDBeeF Audio Player 0.7.2 fails with grey008, the new carolina puppet XFCE.. But Quod Libet works.
