Hi, I would like to slow down some audio and video and there is a utility called "playitslowly" which sounds as if it would be handy. It uses python and I don't understand how to set it up correctly so I was wondering if anyone had the skills to make a pet that would allow it to run on Slacko 5.6 or similar.

https://29a.ch/playitslowly/

Thanks in advance.
cheers!

I looks interesting. I was going to give it a shot but I have Python2.7 and I'm afraid changing might ruin something else.

I'm not sure how python works - maybe it is as simple as having the correct python installed and then the playitslowly binary would run, but there is also a file called "setup.py" which looks as if it needs to be run to link playitslowly to python somehow.

I did try to get it running (using the "legacy" tar.gz package) but got a python message saying "playitslowly module not found" - which tends to suggest that I have something in the wrong place.

The postinstall script contains the following:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
gksu -u root -- python setup.py install
zenity --info --text "'Play it slowly' has been installed"

Hopefully someone with python experience will have no trouble spotting how to make the install script Puppy compatible and where the files should be put. Fingers crossed.

What do you want to use it for, it don't play video, it only plays the audio content, I can't get it to work, I tried the playitslowly-1.4.0.tar.gz (Legacy), needs python-gstreamer, I get the app running but it crashes.
Code:
No accelerated IMDCT transform found
Segmentation fault

My grandaughter likes to watch "Blues Clues" on youtube and there are various episodes that are loaded up in "speedy" mode - they have speeded the audio and video up to double normal rate. I thought there might be a way to make the audio track more understandable by slowing it down. Maybe I'm just getting too old and slow - maybe this is how they teach kids in schools these days... If you disable the flashplayer in firefox add-ons plugins, the video should use HTML5 which has a speed adjustment in the settings.
The sound in this video becomes a little choppy though.

Thanks Geoffrey - useful information. I will pass that along to my daughter and see if their Mac supports that feature. Unfortunately my browser doesn't appear to support all the options - "quality" is there but "speed" is missing. Might try some other browsers.
cheers!

Thanks zigbert. I just tried this with my pmusic 4.5 but can't seem to find the same screen as you are using. I look in Tools, Plugins, Sound filter and I can see tempo controls but they do not respond to my mouse and I cannot change them. Any thoughts?
cheers!

You are just running an older version of pMusic...
The recent versions have included sound processing into the main audio-handling which makes it possible to change tempo for export (save) as well as for playing.

Oh yeah, I recommend to update to the most recent. Plenty of bugs are fixed, and it's overall stabilized.

I'm afraid you're confused -- it's "Bang the Drum Slowly" (1973, Michael Moriarity, Robert De Niro), not "Bang the DRUMMER Slowly"
