EU highest court, as a defender of privacy against american business interests and US government violation of a basic right, has tested the limit of data mining.
All it took was one Austrian guy taking a court action against Facebook in Dublin for violation of his basic right, namely the right to privacy.
Activism is not dead, at least in EU countries, the birthplace of human rights. I can't help thinking this same guy would have face jail time in US for opposing his government and american business interests, and would be stigmatised as unpatriotic.

EU highest court defending the right to online privacy
Quite right too.
I have threatened Facebook as well for being naughty.
I do NOT and never will have a Facebook account, but when I found many of my personal details available on Facebook I was cross to say the least.
I found out when a good friend asked me why I had told the world about something that was supposed to be private.

We lost this fight before we even realized we were in one.
