Getting tp-link tl-wn722n to work
Try Precise or Tahrpup
Hi rcracerguy,
I'm afraid that Semme was right, but perhaps too optimistic. I did a Wellminded Search on Atheros AR9271. Just plug a keyword or two into the search box at http://wellminded.net63.net/ --its a dedicated google search of all the post on this forum. It mostly produced negative results regarding anything involving ath9_htc.
An actual google search revealed that there have been Linux drivers and firmware for Atheros AR9271 since kernel 2.6.35. Which doesn't mean they immediately made their way into Puppies, nor every Puppy version.
The most promising report was that by puppyto that precise 5.7.1 recognized his adapter. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 339#731339. He refers to it as the AR9271 in the post just above it.
I'd suggest you try either a Precise or a Tahr Pup. Precise 5.7.2 was, primarily a "bug fix" of 5.7.1. It is likely that the devs building Tahr Pups used Precise Pup as a model of what drivers and firmware to install. You'll find several version of precisepups and tahrpups in the Projects and Derivatives Sections. X preceeding a name means it uses Xfce as Window Manager; Lx means it uses Openbox with LxPanel. These are just different GUI's.

Lucid Puppy-3HD has 3 different possible network connection programs.rcracerguy wrote:the one that comes with it
We do not ask questions just to ask.
Specific details are important information.
You want help you need to help us.
We only know what you tell us.
This tells me there is a good chance you just did not do something correctly.rcracerguy wrote:I have no idea what I'm doing. Can anyone help.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Again, not enough information.rcracerguy wrote:Sorry I'll have to look. I have another problem now anyway. I wiped the hard drive to fully install it and I have nothing on the screen but the bottom line
Did you just delete stuff?
Did you delete partitions?
Did you wipe it with a cloth? (Sorry, after hearing Clinton say that, I just had to use it)
So, I will take a guess.
You deleted all the partitions on the hard drive.
You need to partition and format the hard drive.
The program Gparted can do that.
If you are only going to have Puppy on the hard drive.
Format the partition(s) in a Linux format.
Ext 3 or Ext 4.

If nothing is on the hard drive there is nothing to run the computer.
If you boot using a Puppy live CD or USB flash drive, it should work.

Good idea when you partitioned.
In Gparted flag the first partition boot.
There is a better boot loader to use for Puppy.
It has been tweaked for how Puppy works.
Grub4dos
Just get running with a version of Puppy.
Booting with a live Puppy CD or USB is a good way.
Run Grub4dos Bootloader config (Usually found in menu->system)
It will find all operating systems on the computer and make a boot menu.
Just use the default settings as you run it.
Install the boot loader to the MBR of the hard drive.
Reboot with no live Puppy CD or USB.
Should see boot menu with entries for the operating systems on the computer hard drive.
Not sure what exact version of Puppy you may be doing this from and what version of Grub4dos it will have.
If you want the latest version.
You can get it here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=51697
Note:
Grub4dos config always makes a menu entry for Windows, even if it is not there.
You can edit the menu and remove the entry if you like.
