find-n-run translations

#6 Post by icake »

I have translated the find_n_run po file in Chinese including:
a. Traditional Chinese (applicable for locales zh_HK and zh_TW)
b. Simplified Chinese (applicable for locales zh_CN and zh_SG)

But I have difficulty attaching these files directly (mo extension files not allowed) and so have put them here for public sharing:

icake, thank you very much!
I noticed in zh_CN that you left the About dialog (authors, license, configuration file location) in English. Is there a technical reason for it, do I need to change something in my code?
Also noticed that the file line endings are CR+LF as in DOS, rather than the traditional linux LF. Is there a technical reason for it? Can I change line endings from CRLF to LF?

find-n-run translations

Thanks for pointing out the odd features in zh_CN file. Because all 4 files were done using identical templates and procedures, I have no idea why one is different. Please feel free to make changes and corrections to the files as you like.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well enough. All four files use CRLF. Can I change CRLF to simple LF? Is it OK?
All four files leave the About message in English. Is that what you want or do you want to translate it into Chinese? I can't make this change by myself.
Thanks

icake, many thanks again. I will use the FIRST version that you provided, the one made with PoEdit. I added header comments to the .po files, just like the ones in the .pot file. I didn't touch translated strings. Files .mo and .po uploaded to Github.
If you want to add a comment for the .desktop file, here's how

Code: Select all

### Desktop file

Finally open file `usr/share/applications/findnrun.desktop` and check whether
a translated _Comment field_ already exists for your language. If not,
please make one and send it to me via the mechanisms noted above.

**example for Spanish**

Comment=Find and run apps very quickly
    Comment[es]=Buscar y ejecutar aplicaciones rápidamente
The desktop file is here.

Muchas gracias, nilsolmorales. Unfortunately, you started translating from SFR's project, which is related but different from find-n-run. Please start from the latest .pot template file here, and follow the instructions in here. Don't worry, you don't need to start from scratch, most of the strings are probably OK, but there are some differences you need to see. Also, you don't need to send me the xml or shortcut creator stuff: they are not part of my project (find-n-run). Finally, I already noted the Comment[es] field for the findnrun.desktop file. I will include it with the updated .po and .mo files when you can make them.
Question: I noticed that your .po file shows locale=es_SV; should I place the translation under es/LC_MESSAGES and under es_SV/LC_MESSAGES?

@nilsonmorales, I'm not sure how you're using poedit, but from the image preview your .po file path looks suspicious. The github repo stores a .pot file in location https://github.com/step-/find-n-run/blo ... ndnrun.pot, not a .po (without t) file. How did you create the .po file?
I don't use poedit, so I can't tell you how to turn .pot into .po properly for poedit, maybe someone else here can help you. But try this, place the .pot file in your REAL filesystem in /usr/share/doc/nls/findnrun/findnrun.pot then start poedit and tell it (somehow) you want to translate findnrun... L18L knows exactly how to do this, but he hasn't logged in for several days.

Or use use the following translation (or similiar) in your po file:

Code: Select all

#: findnrun:372
msgid "%s application found"
msgid_plural "%s applications found"
msgstr[0] "encontrado %s aplicacion"
msgstr[1] "encontrado %s aplicaciones"
