Carolina is a fork of Saluki, meaning it is based on it but not a current version of it. Currently, Saluki development has stopped.

Unfortunately, the Chrome issue cannot be fixed.[/quote]

the chrome issue can, all that is needed is for the kernel modules to be built in to support it. i can´t do it myself though, and everyone who could do it for wary won´t.
so any os built on wary won´t have up to date chrome darn it all. chrome is more suitable for puppy as it is light and has built in flash. I will test Carolina. i will also have to look back at the main versions of puppy to see where they are and if they have xfce available now.

**edit** i was wondering since you use the firefox esr version, why you dont also use the thunderbird esr version click here. that would be good to have.

Apparently, the chrome issue is with outdated libraries (glibc). Elroy tried to update them some time ago and I guess it didn't go so well.

Thunderbird is already 17.0.6 ESR,

Carolina is almost totally compatible with Saluki, save for the xfce things, and wary5.
ok so what is different about the xfce and wary5 then. just doing my research before i jump into yet another puppy os.

i like saluki and am sad it is no longer being developed. why do all the good puppy os do that lighthouse and now saluki. at least the lighthouse website is still up and running with its last os for anyone wanting to use it its not maintained but still available.

Can't find grub4dos

Posted: Wed 19 Jun 2013, 21:57

Trying to upgrade. Did the delta thing and all is well.
Now I want to use grub4dos. But its not on the menu
I did find, and it finds it, But it will not run it. So I tried it from the terminal box.
Didn't work there, either.

Is this just a problem for 0.0.7.rc4 that will be gone when I get rc5 working?

Should I download a new copy of grub4dos?

Pete, I haven't found a problem with grub4dos, the menu entry was relocated to Control Panel > System > Grub4Dos.

To run it type " grub4dosconfig " in the terminal, hopefully this has solved your problem and your installation is ok.

Smplayer was upgraded to 0.8.5 in rc3, maybe try 0.8.3 from the repo to see if it's an 0.8.5 issue.

grub4dos is still active, but not by the official developer. You can find it on google code.

hiawatha "warning: error redirecting stdout".

the pet for hiawatha from puppy-common does not completely work in Carolina, it gives an internal server error when running scripts (such as the pup_pplog).
It´s fixed changing permissions to /dev/null file, just add write permissions for everybody.

Thanks clarf!

Yes, all is well. I thought it used to be on the main menu under system. Glad its available and working from the control panel.

Thank you, Geoffrey.

So you do not get lost with my quote of yours, I could not find any menu desktop configuration settings for changing back to single click from double-click on the mouse.
Evidently, Saluki uses a different settings display.
So, again, in XFCE, how does one set up for single mouse click of desktop icons to run an application?
And I am willing to manually edit a configuration file if need be.

Not sure what that means, the earliest version in the repo is 013 and the latest is 023.

If you can't find the Desktop settings then I guess you could manually edit

/root/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-desktop.xml

and change <property name="single-click" type="bool" value="false"/>
to <property name="single-click" type="bool" value="true"/>

Prior to Saluki 022, xfce was version 4.8 which has a double click desktop, this can't be changed, you will need to use 022 or 023 with xfce 4.10 to change to a single click.
New in 023:
Bugfixes for Xfce issues
Updated pup-volume-manager and mounting backend stuff. This is now pretty stable.
Updated Midori
Removed Streamtuner

New in 022:
Xfce updated to 4.10
New volume management and drive mounting backend - This is still UNSTABLE. Use saluki-21 if you need something stable.
Pupsaveconfig updated

Is it possible for Carolina to connect to a wireless HP Deskjet 3510 printer?

I installed the printer-scanner-drivers SFS, hplip and xsane. I believe that I need hp-gui... is there a pet version?

I'm probably headed in the wrong direction. Perhaps, someone could provide me with a step by step process?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Virtualbox

Earlier in this post rg66 helped me out when I my step mom had a weird grub4dos installation error. I was able to figure it out, she was trying to install Carolina and grub to a partition that was too small, and had no more room on it. I was able to help her and get everything installed right, and she's had nothing but positive things to say about Carolina Linux!

Now to my question. I installed Virtualbox, but when I go to open the program it gives me an error that says that I need the devx package. Can you help me get this, as I can't seem to find it on my own?

Thank you so much for your time and help, and keep up the amazing work!

The devx sfs is here: http://smokey01.com/carolina/devx/devx_lina_006.sfs
I found it best to rename it devx_lina_007.sfs or it doesn't show up in sfs load.

You'll also need the kernel sources http://smokey01.com/carolina/sfs/kernel ... 13-ski.sfs This is for pae only.

Hi everybody!

I was looking in repository, there is a md5sum for an rc6...
I follow the evolution of Carolina checking the thread every day but I didn't see any new release.
Did I miss anything or there will be soon a new version?

About this, I also would like to know if there are plans for a final version.
In a pc i still keep a 005 (it's so good and I don't have the need to change it :) ) and sometimes I check new rc but I'm evaluating if it's better to "clone" the 005 installation or to wait for a final release.

In every case, please accept my appreciation and thanks for the great job You are doing :)
