pemasu wrote:Beem, did you have this problem with earlier versions of Ice Puppy or Snow Puppy. JWM 500 was added to these latest versions only.
Anyway, I will keep your problem in mind and I will offer a fix when I have a knack of the cure.

I am willing to revert back to JWM 493 if it will fix the screen problem.
I have the problem in Lucid 5.25 as well and I think also in spup and earlier versions of snow/icepuppy.
As others don't have an issue, and not knowing what the cause is, don't revert JWM back.
I can live with the issue.
I appreciate you keep it in mind, but as you can't reproduce it, difficult to diagnose, I understand.

As soon as I am back home I'll see if I have the issue on the 'beloved' Medion, which has a nvideo graphics card.

Beem. Lucid 525 and Spup uses JWM 500 also, that I know. Hmm, it might be more than coincidence.

The latest SeaMonkey 2.1 compiled by playdayz works great in Ice Puppy and it's fast. :)

James C. Echo here. Jim3630 posted the same thing in Polarpup thread. Are you in team ? I am getting a little paranoid, lol. Time to take medicine.

I retuned originally Sheepy`s posted GUI interface for xcompmgr. It creates menu entry to the Desktop section.

Xcompmgr is already installed in Snow Puppies.

I will test SM soon. Just got my first Firefox compiling done, so there is now room for another browser testing.

I decided to join to the conspiracy. Posting now from that SM 2.
Not bad. How do I get the close button to the browser tab. I know that the solution and answer is here in the forum labyrinth, but well...I thought to cheat a little and ask like newbie.

I like the included Modern theme. Using small icons was next tuning and show text beside icons. Now I have much smaller toolbar. I also unclicked the Personal Toolbar.
New browser tab clickabe icon found.
Yes, I havent much used SM before. I have been mostly Firefox man....
Tomorrow I test the irc functionality. Lets see.....

I did the test again in Lucid 5.2.5 and confirm I have the issue.
But my installation is the default one, so openbox/fbpanel. I don't use JWM in Lucid.

I did the test also in spup 1.2.0 to be sure.
Spup uses indeed JWM 500 as default.
But I don't have the issue in spup

In all cases, the graphics driver used is radeon.
What I could do next is to see if the radeon driver is the same in the (cold)puppy's, lucid and spup.

Still strange issue.

Hi Pemasu,
I've recently switched from snow puppy 015 to Ice puppy 015
and I'm happy with it.
Flash performance is not so good on my Radeon M6 LY
Is there any way to install new drivers for my ati?
My card is not supported by catalyst, so I wanted to install the newest ati drivers to increase performance.
I've been trying to install xf86-video-ati-6.14.2 from this link
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/
but there are error messages during installation.

I can provide more details, but maybe there is some easier way instead of compiling new version?
regards
Andrew

So I looked in the different distro for radeon and concentrated on the so and .ko files. There is more then that as firmware.
Following is the comparison:

Code: Select all

sh-4.1# ls -l radeon*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1006204 2011-06-15 17:02 radeon_drv.so-ice_015
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1006204 2011-04-02 04:16 radeon_drv.so-lucid_525
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1002348 2011-05-11 13:21 radeon_drv.so-spup_120
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 852682 2011-06-14 19:21 radeon.ko-ice_015
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 636809 2010-05-27 03:27 radeon.ko-lucid_525
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 706501 2010-07-06 14:29 radeon.ko-spup_120
sh-4.1#
It looks the drv.so files of lucid and snow puppy are equal, but the spup one is different. A clue? Could I risk to use the spup one in icepup?

The .ko files are different.
Don't know it this is relevant for the issue.

AndrewG. you need to install aka compile the latest ati driver yourself. Nobody so far hasnt made pet for ati proprietary driver yet.
If you tried some unworking version, it would be good idea to uninstall it first.

Installation guide to install latest ati proprietary driver:
You need devx sfs and kernel source sfs, kernel source sfs needs to be lupe26, it is for Ice Puppy-015. See the first page for downloads.
http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/IcePuppy ... pu_015.sfs
http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/Kernel_s ... lupe26.sfs

Then you need to download latest ati installer package.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Fill your specs and download latest installation package. Place it for example to /mnt/home.
Make the download exucutable if it is not. Right click the download > Properties, click all Exec ticks to enabled.

Then exit to the prompt and run in /mnt/home

Code: Select all

cd /mnt/home
sh ati-driver-installer-11-2-x86.x86_64.run

when it has finished enter "aticonfig --initial" and then "xwin" to
get back to the desktop.

The ati driver gets updated fairly often so at least this way you get latest version.

I guoted Billtoos words in above installation guide.

I think I will in future make a link to this

The Nvidia driver for my Acer desktop gets updated even more often and
I use the same method on it.

Gcmartin. I have downloaded Stu90`s latest and greatest Umplayer offering. I havent tested it though. I will take now a little slower updating cycle. The summer in Finland is really short.
Sure it will be in next Ice Puppy and Snow Puppy also.

Beem. It is as it should. Radeon_drv.so should be same in Lucid Puppies, Snow Puppies ans Ice Puppies because they all use same Ubuntu Lucid Xorg packages.

Spup use different set of xorg packages. Dont try that spup version. It wont work.

Radeon.ko is different in all versions because it is kernel module and kernels are different in all your mentioned distros.

rtl8192se realtek wifi

Running icepuppy 14 on asus 1201T netbook with Realtek rtl8192se wifi device. I have the following items running:

devx_lupu_014.sfs
kernel_src-2.6.38.4-lupe26.sfs

The wifi is still not included in the kernel here and most Linux'es are including it with later kernels. I can build it and install it.

Might want to include it in the kernel?

I MADE A PET FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT.

Have been using this IcePuppy 14 for a while now. I am really pleased with it. Installed the ati driver and the cpu usage immediately dropped. Looks a lot like snowpuppy, which I have been using.

Not seeing a battery monitor in tray

I don't see a battery monitor in the jwm tray BUT I can add it to pwidgets and monitoring works correctly. Am I missing a package?

I believe that Vattery was included. Check /root/Startup/1vattery script, if it exists. If it does exist, edit it so that there is only shebang and the row like: exec vattery-acpitool.

excellent

by bwh1969
That did the trick! I didn't have to do this with snowpuppy. It was kind of a pain only having it with pwidgets because I could not see my battery status when running an app.

This is SUPER by the way and I appreciate the HIGHMEM feature.. I have a 64 bit processor and I had tried lighthouse and fatdog but the apps available are not as many and they are much slower to boot.

I figured out how to make a pet FOR MY BUILT WIFI DRIVER and when I unzip it, it looks correct and has the correct path. It is attached two posts up.

Install then do depmod-FULL -a

The -FULL part might not be needed anymore?

bwh1969. Nice that you got it working. There is problems with Vattery. The Vattery is quite old, newest version is from -2008. Thats why not all batteries are detected as working versions with vattery-ibam. Vattery-acpitool works always.
Vattery-ibam would be learning version when you drain battery almost empty several times. The battery time estimation should be better.
That is why I havent disabled it. But unfortunately quite many cant use it though due to defective battery detection.
