Lucid and FireFox and Java
Altho not being amateur of FireFox I have it on my machine and upgraded to 3.6.3
Also I upgraded Jave to 6u20.
Made the symlink in the ./mozilla directory.
Test via the test page on www.sun.com
1 - SeaMonkey 2.0.4: You have the latest Java installed. About:plugins indicate indeed I have Java.
2 - FireFox 3.6.3: Something is wrong with your Java installation. About:plugins don't show Java. I then went to the preferences, but I see nowhere where I can check for Java. I only find the check for Java script. Where is the check button for Java?

DuDE and Pwidgets will give you an excuse to use the update function.01micko wrote:Jim
I'd love to put the DuDE in there but I was actually against putting Pwidgets in there . The reason is that in a month's time Pwidgets will be up to ver 3.0 and who knows where DuDE will be, maybe ver 1.0? of course wea re fully aware that the radeonhd driver is in there twice! We are looking at possible replacements. Thankfully Lobster came up with his old app LIT, which at least gives a direct link to the DuDE.
I saw a post by someone that glxgears is now missing from lupu.
Barry stated he did not include it in his Nvidia pet for lupu.
So for those of you that want to check out your frame rate with the Nvidia driver, I am attacting a PET.
Install it, and then open a terminal and type "glxgears".
The ESC key closes the graphic window with the gears.
This does NOT work with lupu test versions that do not include glx!!!
I just checked in lupu-117 and it does not work there.
It did work in lupu-116 which had glx included.
Please DO NOT USE!
PET DOES NOT WORK!
Sorry. I tried.

Thank you 8-bit,
It doesn't work and in xerrs.log I see that glx isn't loaded. Module not found.
In Xorg.conf the glx loading statement is in there.
My video is a GeForce 7650 GS.
Is there something special I have to do?
Testing in Lucid 114.
EDIT
Testing in 117. Same issue.

Do you have Barry's Nvidia Pet installed?
If it still does not work, I may have missed something.
Playdayz or 01mico may be able to shed some light on this.
In my case, after installing the Nvidia PET, I copied the files over from lupu-113.
Also, in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf there should be a line that loads GLX.

Re: installing java
Copied the java files from my old savefile. Created the new symlink in01micko wrote:New development.... re javadarwinev0lved wrote:Has anybody managed to install Java on lupup 117?
I had little trouble installing jre-6u20-linux-i586.bin on, I think it was either lupup 114 or 115. Now when I try, the CPU maxes out and nothing actually happens.
I may try copying the files I made before as I've still got the savefile from the earlier lupup that i used.
Can't do any more testing until I get Java installed (need it for Open Office and related writing tasks)
Still have to boot with pfix=nox, but once in, all seems (from my limited testing) to be good.
Regards, Jon.
It can work with Firefox-3.6.3 .... stay tuned
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
and it seems to be working (with Firefox 3.6.3).
So: yay. No idea why it wouldn't install before but this is fine.

geode driver
The Geode video driver in Lupu117 is still 2.11.7, thus no GTK+ icons.

re-appearing icons
Only minor irritation is that icons that I'd deleted from the desktop reappeared - I think after I added an sfs to the startup.
Tried firefox-3.6.4beta.pet including installing the two sqlite pets, however, firefox would not work it requires:
Copied over lib from quirky-100, however, firefox still didn't work.
Code: Select all
# firefox
firefox: /usr/lib/seamonkey/libssl3.so: version ‘NSS_3.12.6' not found (required by /usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so)

I hadn't realized I needed Barry's Nvidia pet also.
For some reason, I thought it was included in 117.
Will install it and report back.

GLX/DRI will only be working with Barry's Nvidia pet. I went back and forth, putting it in and out, i wanted to include it--that was one of the reasons I began Karmic--but it finally seemed that there was no significant advantage to Lucid Pup and there were drawbacks. This will be something we work on for 5.0.1 or 5.1, to make an addon dri/glx package.

I am back from booting lupu-117 with puppy pfix=ram after running xorgwizard and then installing Barry's Nvidia PET and the glxgears PET I just had made.playdayz wrote:GLX/DRI will only be working with Barry's Nvidia pet. I found glxgears did not work and upon further investigation, I found "Disable "GLX" in the xorg.conf file.
I changed to "Load" and still no go on glxgears.
So I did a file-search for glx.
It seems it is not included in lupu-117 and also is not included in Barry's PET.
If you put it back in, glxgears will work.
But If you leave it out, even though you have the option of installing Barry's Nvidia PET, glxgears will not work without a valid glx extension.
I seem to remember it worked in lupu-116 after installing the Nvidia pet. So glx must have been there.
What is the verdict then?
Does glx and dri get included or left out?

Yes. I just installed java on 117 and it worked nicely with Seamonkey,at least on the java test examples. I downloaded the self-extracting binary from java.com and followed their instructions and made a link from the java plugin to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and seamonkey recognized java and ran the java test.Has anybody managed to install Java on lupup 117?
01micko might be a bit more accommodating but if java runs just like it is supposed to in Seamonkey.....?????
