Hi WhoDo my first compiling of seamonkey + mail+composer was a 11MB pet or 33MB extracted, the Chrome folder worked this time, but when I opened the email, it opened up fine, but when I clicked create an account, the button would press down, but nothing happened, I'll try again.
ttuuxxx
keep in mind this about the size
seamonkey + mail+composer 11MB pet <--- no addons
seamonkey + mail+sylpheed 8.6MB pet <--- with addons, new look + theme

Alpha2 picked up netsurf because it didn't recognise Firepup/Firefox was even there for some reason.
Do we have an extra 2-2.5MB compressed to waste? If so I'll do it, it will take hoursssss.
Yeah. Sorry for the extra "ask", but I think it's important. Sylpheed isn't acceptable for general use as it has no working html display support. From a functionality viewpoint for refugees, that's a showstopper. We'd have to include Thunderbird instead and that really would put us over the limit on size.

As much as I enjoyed my time with Firepup, now that Seamonkey is back in a whole bunch of stuff works again (bareview, etc) and the iso size is back down to 96Mb. I think we can deliver at 98.5Mb and still keep the faith! The add-ons are a must-have too! :P

Point taken. I plead a complete lack of sleep - even though she was born at 9:12pm, by the time we got home it was close to 1:00am. Then last night the immediate family were up until 1:00am this morning "wetting the baby's head", so I still haven't had any serious sleep. I have had a few Wild Turkey Rare Breeds though ... oh and a lovely long nurse of my brand new grandaughter this morning! :P

I'm gonna keep the faith with the faithful and answer some posts before I take a poppa-nap to catch up.

Cheers

Hey WhoDO I've been working on this email thing and this is a backup option :) Boy do you ever get great support from me,LOL ok enough with the patting me on the back, what I did was download the latest Claws mail, Claws html plugin sources and compiled and stripped them to a 1.5MB pet, its located on page one. Could you try that out while I start on the long Seamonkey journey.
They also have a vCalendar plugin I just compiled, this is what it says about that plugin This plugin enables vCalendar message handling like that produced by Evolution or Outlook, and handles webCal subscriptions. It provides a personal calendar and public calendar import and export.

now doesn't that sound nice:)
here's the link to the rest of the plugins
http://www.claws-mail.org/plugins.php?section=downloads

Claws mail by far is much more pleasing to eye the then Seamonkey mail and it has far better plugins and support.
ttuuxxx

Option 1 Claws mail + Html = 1.5MB
claws-mail-3.7.0-html.pet

Option 2 Claws mail + Html + Calendar plugin 1.7MB
claws-mail-3.7.0-html-Cal.pet

@@@@ update about Claws Mail @@@@
you have to load the plugins up,
top menu select /configuration/plugins

If we do go with claws, I could probably reconfigure the plugins to load automatically, so it would be easier on new users.

I prefer the claws-mail to SeaMonkey.

BTW Glad to hear that the issue with 4.2 alpha2 was solved. :D

What tha' heck! Let's go the whole hog and install the full 1.7Mb! If that works ok, then we'll have plenty of room for Seamonkey-1.1.14 with the full set of add-ons, too! :P Downloaded for testing.

ya the last release of claws mail in the forum was almost 6MB pet package without any plugins, with the same options, they didn't strip or remove anything, I could add a locales package if you wanted Claws as default mail client, also I could compile the rest of the plugins and have them on the repo I guess.
***Note i didn't make it default mail client but that would only take a minute to change.

Hey WhoDO whats the verdict on Claws mail? I would like to know which direction I'm heading towards, compiling more plugins or Back to compiling Seamonkey, I also found some themes for Claws mail, here's what the Tango Orbit theme looks like, I might be able to recompile Claws mail with the new theme replacing the current theme to save space :) Well I can try it, tell me what you think.
ttuuxxx
themes are found at

- show desktop should not be in in autohide section In what? Icewm?? I removed it because well by default most themes don't come with a matching show desktop icons, So then it looks out of place, I'll see what I can do about getting one that works with all of them.
sorry of being not exact: this is an jwm issue.

@whodo
congratulation to you and your family! i hope all involved are well.

that leads to some general points:

1. Do we have time pressure?
I don't think so. We all want a nice looking well done puppy. We are doing some new things, so we need time. if it takes 9 alphas and 7 betas and we get a nice puppy, it would be ok.

2. Does size matter?
We have discussed this many times, but i think we are on a point where we have to remember this.

One of the usps might be:
"Puppy can do all this this with under 100 mb...bla bla"

under 110 mb won't work this way and we would compete with the distros under 200 mb.

I know we are not in a competition, but i think well all want puppy to conquer the world

cheers

Hi aragon

I have a good feeling it will remain under 100MB, just this last alpha was a bit over, but WhoDO was under a push to give us something and didn't have time to weed out the bloat. But I have a sneaky feeling that alpha 3 will be once again under 100MB threshold.
he's saving around 2MB+ just changing the browser and using Claws mail. Which alone will put puppy back where it belongs :)

Yes indeed Congratulation WhoDO I figure I should be a grandfather by now, but my boys aren't having any kids yet, touch wood  If you lived close by, I would sit back and have a cigar with you.Well the best wishes for your Grand-daughter and the rest of your family, It really frightens me when I think of my daughter dating in a few years, she's still 6yrs now, I'll scare the crap out of any boy she brings home for the first 10yrs then maybe ship her off to the frozen Canadian tundra, lol.

Claws mail works for me! And I now need the extra space. I'm pushing up just under 100Mb and I don't want to go over.

Seamonkey without the Mail/News will do. Can we do something about it report as 1.1.11 instead of 1.1.14?

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. I don't know how I feel about being called Pa or Grandpa yet, but we'll see. I might go for Pop instead! :D

Everyone is well and when I visited today Marsae's mum was looking forward to coming home with bub as soon as possible. Hospital food sucks big time!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel for Alpha3. It should go up either late tonight or sometime tomorrow night.

Cheers

@@@update on Claws Mail ed.2 @@@
This is getting good, I managed to theme it using 2 different themes that I download, and then compiled it with the new theme as default, only added around 100kb exttracted. It looks great but you know when when I get started at something its hard to stop. So I'm going to tweak the theme and make it look even better, Also I managed to figure out a way of saving just the settings and none of the private day, for building a package, so now I have it opening 'Defaultbrowser' by default when you click on a hypertext link in a email message, works like a charm, plus it also saves the plugin settings, so the next Claws Mail release will be reallyyyyyy good.

I'll wait for you, Jeff. If it's not done tonight I'll upload tomorrow night. I need the time to sort the icon themes out. I found a great GPL set on gnome-look.org that will fit right in with Deepthought and give it an even classier look.
