c4b99353e9136e37e068a79c25b43e21

which is not the md5sum as posted.
I also got a differing checksum when I downloaded last week, I think from ibiblio. So I downloaded again, but I think I chose another site - cant remember well now. Not even sure if is was Puppy 217, or Ubuntu now, it could have been either that gave the error, but vaguely remeber it being 217nolzma. Anyway it certainly pays to run md5 checksums after downloading anything.

Well, I downloaded it a third time overnight, this time from the ftp ibiblio site (previous two were http ibiblio), and I still get the same wrong c4b md5sum. Will try another site. Can someone tell me a site from which you actually got a version with a good checksum?

disappointed with this release.. it's much slower than the corresponding 2.16.. also it hangs on my 128MB machine either with xvesa or xorg

OK, I made the fourth attempt from one of the lesser-known mirrors, I won't say which one, and it md5sum's OK.

The ibiblio version of 2.17-nolzma gave a bad md5sum on three attempts within the last 20 hours (two from the http URL identified above by alienjeff, and one from the ftp URL). All three downloads completed via wget, but all three gave the bad full md5sum shown in my post above.

Perhaps ibiblio has been monkeyed with.

Maybe you should try downloading it again, and this time make sure the md5sum is correct. I'm just now starting to try 2.17, with a verified md5sum, and am finding it to have the usual excellent Puppy snap.

I'd just like to chime in with SHS that I too downloaded from ibiblio the "nolzma" version and had to go elsewhere---not that I can recall where now---to get either a 3rd or 4th one before it finally gave a proper md5sum.

So SHS isn't alone on this, and just to let you know you're not losing your marbles SHS, okie? We both are. LOL! :D Sorry! I couldn't resist. The devil made me do it.

Once I finally got the proper md5sum, however, you can bet that baby got burnt to a CD faster than lightning! Now it's installed (as a full-install) on two partitions on the older computer for my wife and grandson with a frugal of 2.14 for my granddaughter there... and I have a really nice frugal here on mine from which I'm typing now.

I love it! I've hardly touched my other installed distros since!

Amicalement,

ignore my comment concerning its crash earlier. it is only to do with NOP version of 2.17 not the original 2.17. though the slowdown i observe is real. i do find 2.16 runs more snappily than 2.17
