@zagreb the url of psdjvu that you gave to me has the instructions how to use the psdjvu. Just follow it properly

you dont need to convert deb files on puppy because PPM accept that format. SFS can be loaded immediately by double clicking it

X-Slacko Slim accepts almost all kinds of linux packages. When you clicked it, it will ask to convert package to pet package before install it

We have a problem on the uploaded iso. The ISO file that I recently uploaded was kernel file version 4.12 not 4.14 I will fix this issue as fast as possible so refrain from downloading the latest iso for a while until the issue is fixed.

Amazing distro, how do it install bumblebee and nvidia prop

Im in love with your distro.

I was looking for an easy to use slackware distro and found yours on an facebook group!

Just to understand, does slacko also have these multi distro package compatibility or is it an special feature of your x-slack slim? hehehe

I installed your version and im very happy with it!

I have one question: how do i install nvidia proprietary + bumblebee on it? need an easy way to do it, i will use it to game on steam hehehe!

Keep the amazing work! greetings from brazil!

@edney unique features of X-Slacko Slim was already stated in the first post of this thread, kindly check it out. Installing nvidia driver is a tough one I think. I have no experience of installing nvidia because I have no such video card possesed. You can stay with the noveau driver. If you really want that proprietary driver. You can search for nvidia package here in this forum. I hope it works. For nvidia optimus see bumblebee.

hello mistfire,

downloaded and test 4.4r2 and found it very impressive. Running on PC with 8gb ram, i found that there is "3.9gb personal storage and , free space 3.1gb".

The first post saying it using zram. But When i am using Barry's quirkxerus64-8.2(which also have zram enabled) on this 8gb machine, it showed the personal storage and free space is over 10gb and i can copy a dvd iso file with 4.3gb into ram and edit it in this huge space. Is it possible that you can modify you x-slacko to have the same effect ?

I have another laptop with only 2gb ram, and it would be perfect if your x-slacko can make it re-vitalise by making use the whole 2gb ram when zram is run.

thank you in advance.

edit : finally, x-slacko 4.4r2 hangs during the last stage of system shutdown and have to unplug electric socket.

@quirkian2new. Sure you can modify it by your preferences. About your issue, i suggest that you start from init scripts in init of initrd and /sbin/init also there is x-slacko build kit (download link was on the first post of this thread) for you reference and even build x-slacko slim from pristine X-Slacko.

Utilizing whole ram is applicable when the puppy was on full install or the save file or puppy file was from the hard disk. Making the init script more intelligent is very hard to implement. But if you are fluent in bash and linux underhood you can implement if you have an idea.

By the way can you please share your scripts that you modified in X-Slacko Slim?

startup troubles

Hi mistfire

I have some troubles with xslacko slim on my win10 machine. I tried both 4.4r2 and r3.

I get 3 hard beeps and then soft beeps when X comes in. I need the "VESA bios extensions not detected" fix. Then I get to X, but I have the soft beeps again, continuously. I stop it by choosing another device in the sound wizard (multiple cards), but then I have no sound at all anymore.

Second problem. I boot from my SSD. First to refind, then to bootx64.efi=grub2 and from there I can boot 32bit puppies on SSD from my 64bit uefi computer. refind and grub2 are on partition sda1, the frugal puppies are on sda9 from the SSD.
It works great with xenialpup, stretch, pyro32 and slacko6.9.9.9. But with X-Slacko Slim it does not find the pupsave. I use this in grub.cfg, like for the other puppies:

Code: Select all

menuentry 'Puppy X-Slacko Slim [mistfire]' --unrestricted --class linux --id='xslackoslim' {
   set root='(hd0,8)'
   search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set aee3598a-5686-411f-88c5-bac84cbede86
    linux /xslackoslim/vmlinuz pmedia=cd pfix=fsck psubdir=/xslackoslim/ pdev1=sda9
    initrd /xslackoslim/initrd.xz
}
(I had to remove "pkeys=be-latin1" from the kernel line.)
When booting from usb, X-Slacko Slim does find the pupsave!
Is there another option I can add to "show" X-Slacko Slim the pupsave?

@foxpup where did you put the savefile of X-Slacko Slim? Please boot the X-Slacko Slim from your SSD. Take to the event where the savefile of xslacko slim cant found. After you get to the desktop compress /initrd/tmp into a tarball then send it to this forum. The log files /initrd/tmp will give clues about your problem on your computer.

Currently I have no actual UEFI machine to diagnose well your problem on booting puppy

Hi mistfire.

Thank you for looking into this. I understand it will not be easy to find the problem without an uefi computer yourself.
I PM'd you the /initrd/tmp log files.
The savefile is in the same dir as the frugal installation, that is /sda9/xslackoslim/. I also put it in the root of sda9, hoping it would be easier to find it, but alas.
When booting from usb, the pupsaves are found. It seems like the search action is different.

Thanks for the tarball @foxpup. What boot parameters on the bootloader that you set for X-Slacko Slim on your usb?

Oh I forgot to say that there is a vanilla initrd included on X-Slacko Slim live cd the "initrd-fallback.xz" you can use that to replace initrd.xz that failed to find savefile. Then try to boot it on your SSD.

I do not use a usb for booting. I used to though, so I can try if you want. For booting from usb I still use good old grub4dos. That is a legacy boot then, with the main files on the SSD and init and kernel on the usb. The lines in menu.lst would be almost the same as those in grub.cfg. You want me to try it on my machine, and report?

As soon as I have some time I try the vanilla initrd too. What does it mean "vanilla"?
