GVFS is the virtual filesystem for the GNOME desktop, which allows users easy access to remote data via SFTP, FTP, WebDAV, SMB, and local data via Udev integration, OBEX, MTP and others.
is gvfs part of xfce? is your work related to http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel- ... gvfs-mount

No but gvfs is required for the trash bin and browsing remote file systems.

"Xfce4 GVfs Mount is a small application that is meant to mount remote file systems only. It was initially written because Thunar 1.0 is lacking that feature"

Can anyone with an MTP device please test this .pet?

http://smokey01.com/rg66/X-slacko/pet_p ... slacko.pet

It should add a menu entry in Filesystem once mounted (used to unmount) and remove it on unmount.

The pet installed , but the menu entry was in Utility . It started well but it did not recognized a Huawei MediaPad . I was warned it might not work .

I have to do a few edits to the menu categories so PPM doesn't change it.

That's a good sign anyway, at least it tried to detect it and make a new udev rule.

Thanks for testing.

So far so good on the Poulsbo sys -- no cursor glitch this time.

Thunar no longer displays eject buttons tho. That, I do not like...

EDIT: the Thunar misfeature/bug is the only one I've encountered. Ran FF (much to my chagrin) and updated/changed wallpaper, iconset, etc. Added latest Chromium 43 from peebee's thread, started up fine with only minor carping in the terminal.

It's quite fast :) particularly given the hardware in question...

Well done!

Thanks starhawk, I think it turned out quite well.

As far as the Thunar eject buttons go, you'll have to downgrade to thunar-1.4 to get them back. If you want a .pet I can upload one.

Nice to have, thanks, rg.
Always liked this offering, not had any serious issues.
Noted that my wired DHCP connection was not enabled by default, which has become fairly standard these days. Not a problem with SNS, but possibly worth considering for bog-std. installations and neophytes?
Best Wishes.

Thanks Sage.

I'm an "old school desktop wired network" kind of guy so never had an issue connecting. Just looked at /usr/local/bin/defaultconnect and it's set as connection wizard, I guess I should change it to SNS.

rg -- I'm cooking up a sort of X-Slacko 3.0 remix with a few modifications that suit me. I'm thinking of posting it in case someone else wants to use it. It's almost certainly a one-shot... I'm not much good at maintaining anything, even interest, lol.

Would you mind if I put the two ISOs up here (one each, PAE and non), or should I get my own thread? (I'm guessing the second, given zagreb's mess and all, but thought I'd ask anyways.)

You should start you're own thread but you can do a post here if you like. Just name it something else please. Even X-slacko-remix is ok, as long as it's different.

I love your use of 4.12; the xfce panel hide options are quite nice.

@rg66 -- don't worry, I thought of a different name :) wouldn't want to confuse people, of course. Given my track record with these things, though, I'll be quite happy just to have it work properly. LOL.

3.0n iso downloaded, md5sum checked, Frugal install to one of my core 2 duo iwlwifi i915 laptops. Booted both pristine and updating my 3b7 savefile after renaming it to xslackosave-xxx from slackosave-xxx and cleaning out the Firefox updates etc. No issues noted in either install. Intel mesa used, glxgears 1306 FPS.. a good number for this laptop, iwlwifi (5300 chip) connection normal with Frisbee as expected. Might be a bit but I'll put it on an ipw2200 Pentium M laptop and on a Bay Trail box where I no longer have to do a kernel swap :) And I like having the standard svg icons on board. Now I no longer have to patch to get manilla folders in Thunar :) :) And not doubling up on the devices when mounted saves me a bit of vertical real-estate for my places in the sidepane :) :) :)

Thanks once again,
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Do we know how far back we can go in the technology, ie P3/P4/XP1200/Duron/etc? And what is the minimum memory demand? Won't have an oldie available for test for a few weeks. Maybe James or Bill already knows the answer? That'll be the -n version, of course.

@ toomanyquestions, thanks.

@ Marv, thanks for the support.

@ Sage, haven't tested on old hardware, I'll try and make some time for that.

X-Slacko 3.0 PAE version on the old trusty Athlon XP box...manual frugal install.

Wired internet wasn't automatically connected but SNS made quick work of that task.Otherwise seems to be working well and fairly snappy.

Thanks for testing on old hardware.

Strange, both you and Sage weren't automatically connected. I just booted into RAM and it connected immediately.
