Yes that would be good, plus don't know where from you took the puppy logo but you have transparent png's in /usr/share/doc/ both 48x48 and 96x96 sizes and if you need something bigger you can always grab a big one here:

Er, guys, (BTW Dejan, I'm not picking on you alone, it's just that yours was the most recent post). Could you post your um, guy photos as attachments in the future instead? It's just that there are kids in my house and I don't like them looking over my shoulder and seeing, well so much flesh... if they're attachments, only the folks that want to see them can look for themselves.

@battleshooter
I will post them as text links instead, because the actual wallpaper should be at deviantart 'cause of stocks used from there. And I need permission to use outside dA.

EDIT: Edited previous links and added warning.

WOW This is a classic of what never to do, I'm trying not to complain but to educate, So please have a open mind.
When you make a final image and if it doesn't have any transparent background within the image, then save it as jpg, png really is always way larger and its really only good for transparencies.
This is really the best example I have ever seen how not to save an image.
If your using gimp and dealing with black, gray then you have an option in the menu Image/Mode/Grayscale or indexed 256 colours, RGB is for a full range of colours, Indexed has a max of 256 colours and Grayscale is just shades of gray which these 2 images should be.
When it comes to backgrounds the larger the image size the more strain it puts on your resources, please keep that in mind.
poboxdark.png <<---- 4008KB or 4MB
poboxdark-Grayscale <<---- 9KB or 9KB a savings of 4MB!!!!!!!!
poboxlight.png <<---- 4008kb or 4MB
poboxlight-Grayscale.jpg <---- 11kb or a savings of 4MB!!!!!!!

these are nice images, the only thing is the size, below is the same images, same size, but way smaller. They are now small enough to be included in boxpup, If the developers wants, but I must say one thing these images are excellent for the size, because most puppy fullsize backgrounds are usually much larger.

Yes, jpg really works for those since they don't have much colors and contrast. Sometimes on more colorfull images jpg makes them pixelated or blurry, even though you save with 100% quality and various optimizations, I guess that's what jpg format is like, it really has best compression but for some images just doesn't look good. Many times I regret I don't save .xcf so I can resave some image in png.

But for images like those there's no really any loss.

no matter if you save an image as png or jpg you always get some loss in quality, actually I find you get more loss in smaller images than backgrounds when it comes to details. As backgrounds go, it wouldn't make any sense to have a background with transparent backgrounds, lol it would just be white or black anyways.
Aaaaa you got used to .xcf, usually I save my images as psd, well I was raised on photoshop and gimp also does save layers with psd, I wonder if there is any quality difference between xcf and psd, I never use xcf, never seen the need as long as I can use psd.

No point in transparence for wallpaperes indeed, but even if I flatten image then save in PNG with compression 9 in GIMP it still has better quality then jpg with 100% and some additional options and filters added in advanced tab when saving.

Haven't used Photoshop much, I switched to GIMP and GNU/Linux too fast  .xcf is gimp's native format it's good for saving layers and work in progress and you shouldn't loose on quality.

BTW, GIMP now supports Photoshop's .abr brushes without conversion to .gbr, just put'em in GIMP's brushes folder and they are picked on startup.

hi battletshooter
here's a simple outline

save your working images as xcf pr psd, this will keep every in the same order as your working on, some images I've made have had over 50 layers so I save it as psd, so I can come back and work on them on a later date.

Image/mode/rgb is the largest base to work with, but it will preserve everything 100%

Image/mode/Grayscale will just show everything in shades of grey, This base is usually the smallest format.

Image/mode/Indexed is the mid size base, this does work nicely for icons without shadows, usually the shadows get removed and sometimes the blending get jagged, but usually I see if it works because its much small than rgb, If not I just click edit/undo
and back to rgb it goes.

I spent weeks on improving mimes for puppy, smaller is better, They've even found there way into 5 series, stardust, 2.14X etc
the end result was around 90% of them were way smaller and much better looking.
below us 2 examples the original rox recycle and the newer I put together.
rox was rgb
my newer one is indexed and has more colours/shades but way smaller.

Hey ttuuxxx thanks for the tips that is a very big saving in size on those wallpapers and the quality is still there to boot 8)

edit. just opened gimp and tried this on some icons im working on as well , changing from rgb to Indexed and it has reduced the size massively!
