Billtoo,
April64 has Pmusic. Do you have any thoughts about how they compare?
Do you think Deadbeef would be a better choice for April?

Thanks for the report. setxkbmap will be in the next build.

Those usb warnings are weird, as all of those drivers are built into the kernel, not as modules. It is beyond my control what order they load. If the kernel is loading them in the wrong order, then complaining, then that is a kernel bug.

I am seriously thinking of doing a recompile with gstreamer 0.10.
That series has not been updated since 2012, however it is very mature, and there are some apps that require it.

I am thinking of doing a complete recompile in T2, a "big X" build.

April64 6.89 does not have mesa, llvm, and opengl. This very much limits what xorg drivers are on offer.

I did this as a space-saving exercise.

But I might put those packages in, and compile all of the xorg drivers.

gstreamer is another one that I might change. Perhaps roll back to 0.10.x.
Also, 6.89 only has gstreamer, gst-plugins-base, and gst-ffmpeg (gst-libav).
I might add gst-plugins-good, maybe more?

I got shot of my swap partition yesterday, so after setting it to ext3 and formatting I thought I'd give it a go :

20 second download from NLUUG (to UK) :)

But :( error as per attached image (sort)

Hand crafted to id the correct file and installed OK to a <2GB partition (prior swap space).

Off out now, so I'll report back later with bootup etc.

... oh couldn't resist, quick reboot and straight in, detected graphics ok (which is rare for me - usually black screen and have to ctrl-alt-backspace and disable modesetting etc), picked up network ok, using seamonkey to edit this after having screen captured.

Introducing April64

Used Fatdog64 for installation method B on 3.7 G partition on usb stick

First try
drag and drop entry from console to menu.lst
failed
...file not found at boot

Then manually added succeeded:

Code: Select all

title Quirky 6.89 (full install on sdb1)
  uuid 596bd945-a439-4fe3-b142-d0cad4bf2be7
04030201-01
  kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=PARTUUID=04030201-01 rootwait rw

unstable with nvidia card

#67 Post by raffy »

Just saw April64 yesterday and now it's on 5th page here. 8)

Install to Flash drive was smooth, but April is unstable in a PC with Nvidia card. Even Xvesa hangs. And this is the first time that xorgwizard required a reboot of the system.

drag and drop entry from console ... opps that does not preserve formats not good for wrapping lines or multiple lines.

last issue the filesystem does not extend to size of partition. One shows partition size other filesystem size. That is common when using this method. The should be a command line command to resize filesystem to size of partition done by user.

Also which version of Fatdog64... hopefully not the new beta version, just a point of practice building beta with another beta can add a whole new crop of problems not directly attributed to the one being tested.

SM popup

#70 Post by Rodney Byne »

BK quote:
"When SM is run as spot, the script /usr/bin/seamonkey will remain in place. If the user ever decides to change SM to run as root, /usr/bin/seamonkey is deleted, and /usr/bin/seamonkey.bin is renamed to /usr/bin/seamonkey."

If the user ever decides to change back from root to spot, will the process
reverse itself within that session, or will a re-boot be necessary?

Regards.

Billtoo,
April64 has Pmusic. Do you have any thoughts about how they compare?
Do you think Deadbeef would be a better choice for April?

I think Deadbeef would be a good one to have in the repository for
those who want it.

My favorite for playing music streams (right now) is Umplayer, it
allows searching Shoutcast for radio stations.

How about keep Pmusic + lots of other players in the April64 repository?

Also, a "big X" build of April64 sounds great :)

Thanks.

I think I know why pschedule doesn't work properly in Quirky 64 bit.
It's the way that the time zone is set.

Pschedule is confused by the hour. That is why it will behave properly
when I set it to alarm at 10 minutes after every hour,
but it won't alarm at 5:10 am because an hour is mentioned.

When using the install script '4install-quirky-to-drive' when there is not
enough space to decompress there is the warning message in the terminal

Code: Select all

Uncompressing april-6.89.usfs.xz to april-6.89.usfs...
xz: (stdout): Write error: No space left on device

Final sanity check: 'sdc' is correct? (ENTER if OK, CTRL-C abort):
...but shouldn't the script give the warning and then quit automatically.

I'm not sure , but I think that to compile the wacom graphic tablet XORG
driver, mesa needs to be installed???

Ah, you have an old version of 'sort', that does not accept the '--version-sort' option.

I will put a test for that into the script.
