So is it something one start up in Xp-lite or in DOS? Okay just me lazy.

Why make things complicated if them already work okay.

I thought about the criticism you got that now when it has these added features then it is too big to run in his DRAM did he have 525 or 256?

Could one maybe make SFS on most big files that one don't need instantly so if one want a special thing them one just do the SFS on the fly thing?

That way not everything need to be in memory? Or maybe me know too little.

Or u could boot with the pfix=nocopy option.

Ah pfix=nocopy which means "do not copy .sfs to RAM"
I never tested that one. So tjat gives that guy more memory
but a bit slower boot because it has to get it from the sfs
and that one is a zipped file system. I have 1GB so that works okay.

I do have an old 2002 something HP/Compaq that only have 256 MB though. But it is noisy So I don't want to use it.

Almost right, it's actually a faster boot because nothing has to be copied to ram however it's slower in actually running the os because everything is run off of the cd and not from ram.

I am known to be dense so that one was what to expect.

I am back but not sure if I did it right. I did stop the boot process
and wrote pfix=nocopy and then hit the enter and then b for boot.

So it booted as it always do. It looked for the files and found
both the pupsave file and the lupu sfs file and told me

it loaded the main file. is that what to expect?

I then clicked on the Browse and FF took a long time to boot.
so maybe that is what we talk about. But it did say it booted
the sfs but only the main file. How can I see that I have not
a standard boot then?

When I told DeadBeef to play an OGG file with piano music it did it instantly.

Sorry nooby but im having kind of a hard time following you, I'm not really sure how the pfix=noram command would work/act in a frugal install I was referring to using while booting a live-cd.

Is it okay to use a savefile that one produced with Lupu-528
and to reuse it with puppy rescue os?
I write from such now and it seems to work good.

A savefile from a base 528 shouldn't hurt anything as far as i've seen.

Hi DPUP5520 was waiting to post after more testing but for starters. puppy rescue os frugal manual install to ext4 pfix=ram. my former troublesome broadcom wl.ko driver being built-in to the iso was auto detected. sns and connection wizard failed to make wifi connection requiring frisbee pet which worked without issue.

so thanks for including that broadcom wifi driver.

spent alot of time trying to get Truecrypt to work and made some headway after going to menus "settings", "preferences", "System integration" and select "Do not use kernel cryptographic services".

still grappling with Truecrypt. can create and mount a secure file and that as far as I got.

perhaps a help file like bigpups that briefly outlines how to use some of the excellent programs or links to those programs would be helpful.

overall excellent quality and if you do a ver2 might consider including a Tor browser bundle. playdayz just posted current one with ff6.0.2 it has the Iran bug fix and would be secure for those trying to fix a os in those countries.

Tor-browser can get very annoying for people not worried about security and is pretty big which is why it was not included in here, however it is going to be included in Puppy Crypt 528 which I am working on right now. I am working on a list of basic command line options for programs right now I've just been pretty busy but I will have a list out in a few hours probably cause I have some time today. Truecrypt can be a bit of a pain in the ass in Linux I know and i'm actually not very good with it as I mostly use Scramdisk which can mount Truecrypt containers. If I do work on another version of PupRescue it will be after I am done working on Puppy Crypt so it will be a little while.

I think Tor could be good for those that need such but is it not giving
a false sense of security? I can only guess based on my lack of deep
knowledge but to me it seems one expose oneself somehow.

I read yesterday that somebody had visit the Tor Forum which one
most likely need to have Tor to reach? He was very disappointed with
the attitude in that forum. Does not such tarnish? Taint? Drag down?
the whole reputation somehow and that defeat the noble goal of Tor?

You're right that tor/vidalia is not some magical force that will hide you from the fbi/cia/government it works fine for common sites/people that would want to track/log your I.P. address.
I do not participate in the tor/vidalia forums so I do not know of the attitudes there of people.

I for one am impressed and will down load this and add it to my growing pile of puppy CD's and recovery disk.

I am interested in this project, but the dropbox URL gets 509ed. I'm primarily interested in using pup to boot from a USB drive and then run avast and avg to scan the local hard drive. I've got the bootable usb and got avast and avg installed and then came across your project while researching how to design my scanning script(s).

When I try to download, I get:

DPUP5520 is on a work assignment traveling a lot in remote places
so maybe he may not have access to an internet cafe at the moment.
That could explain why he has not noticed that the link fails.

Sorry guys i've seen the issues with dropbox and i'm currently working on getting the issue resolved! Unfortunately due to the area i'm in and the slow internet connection that I have, I haven't been able to upload PupRescue anywhere else. As soon as I find a new place to upload it I will let it be known (btw it should be working again on Dropbox for the time being).

@ant2ne AVG isn't all that great on Linux I always recommend Avast, even F-Prot I see as being quite a bit better than AVG and they're both much lighter.
