Re the 1024 x 768 that only show x 600 I found an easy work around.

One can use IceWM instead of JWM and that allow both Chique and Viewnior to show pics in 1024 x 768.

My very noob question. I am sure of you already told me and that I have written it down too but sadly I don't know where to find it. One need to know search word for it to find it on the internet.

Why does these latest versions like Midnight Sun Pup-001 make the CPU much warmer? The fan ran all time to cool it down while on Snow Puppy 5 then it is some 5 degrees cooler and the fan only is needed for demanding jobs? Maybe it is the FF 5 that is more demanding then the FF 3.6.16?

I am too lazy to test it again and again. I am back using Snow 5 instead.
I love to have a totally silent computer
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Nooby. About that resolution problem. I use now JWM 493 and the package is not maybe the same I have used before. I tested JWM 500 but that had problem when dragging folder upwards, it didnt stick in the upper border but slided under the lower border. I didnt like that. Maybe I need to chase the JWM 493 package from my hdd storages which I used before. I think it was the one Barry Kauler provided, but he has changed to the JWM 500 now.

About that cpu - fan difference. Snow Puppy 005 used my first compiled kernel, which had problems when used kernel source sfs. Some of the compiles failed.
So I recompiled it and changed some specs which might have caused your fan problem. Not sure of course.

I used before jwm2-4.9.2-lupu and jwmconfig2-20101229-bk1. Now I have jwm2-493-patched-q1. Latest Snow Puppy had jwm2-500-1.
It seems that jwm2-4.9.2-lupu produces best resolution for netbooks in jwm or jwm 500, not sure, but it has that window border problem.
I might change back to that jwm2-4.9.2-lupu if there isnt any other usability concerns.
Good to know that Icewm is solution anyway.

Sfs_load-1.1 has bug in /etc/init.d/sfs_load script. It affects loading of usb media.
The bug has been there all the time, but it was found recently and posted in another thread. I made a fixed pet for it to use it in the woof.
You can load the whole pet or extract it and replace only that above script.
The problem affects all my earlier Puppies and all self installed Sfs_load-.1.1-pet installations.

Hi pemasu,

Fresh frugal installation of Midnight Sun Pup-002 looks good. It doesn't have the problems that I reported earlier with 001.

@Nividia driver installers

Recommend that the nouveau module at /lib/modules/2.6.35.7/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/ be deleted rather than trying to blacklist the module. Then reboot, go to prompt, and install the new nividia driver. That prevents the nouveau conflict with the new driver.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim1911. Great to hear it worked right. I used whole new set of ubuntu package base. 815 packages were changed. I suspected my packages-deb folder was somehow corrupted, so copied the whole deb folder from another woof build. I cant download them from ubuntu repos due to this slow and unreliable 3g connection.

About that nouveau module. Your method is good one. There is anyway allways the backup in /initrd/ro_2. I dont know if anyone uses that nouveau. Probably if I dont include it, I will find out, lol.

There is now psync-2.2 update. It fixes the Europe region bug when autostarting at boot time. I downloaded and here is the pet also.

Pemasu, actually not my problem. I install to usb only since your earlier problems with usb installs. This in part lead to my earlier discovery of problems with the universal installer. My main use is hdd instsall.

Thunor has investigated the Partview quit button problem and found the reason. It was glade bug and has been fixed. I wait for the next release of the code.

I will include it to the next Midnight Sun Pup, which will be 2.6.38.4 kernel with intel atom optimization with highmem+pae and has of course automatic process scheduler enabled.

Sfsget has been fixed in new woof. Great. Now I just have to start using that woof and make all the needed modifications. Or just grab the changed scripts to the previous woof, since downloading all the stuff is not reliable right now. Lets see.
