Here are some colourful and flamboyant gtk themes running in Dpup Wheezy.
Not sure if they will work in all pups but they seem OK in Precise as well.
There is mention of some featues needing the "mist" engine but these look the same to me with or without it.
Maximum number of attachments per post is 10 so I will post the .pets below in a separate post.

Here are the .PETs of the above themes in case anyone is interested.
I am also posting the Debian Wheezy mist engine.
You will see warnings in console if you don't install it.

This theme is similar to the old Stardust theme, but is partly using vector graphics to scale nicely when used on touch-screens.

I have not been able to fully switch to vector graphics because of the way gtk handles stretching. The border-setting in gtkrc works wonderful for raster images, but not for vectors.

This update includes gradients in some of the svg-images, and it would be great if someone with an ancient pc could test how this affects the performance. Theoretically, gradients are heavier than mono-colors, but is this is noticeable? - I don't know.

In my super slow OLPC XO-1, it adds a measurable 8-10% in gtkdialog apps over flat-gray-rounded, for example.

Should point out that if /usr/lib/gtkdialog/xml-info has

Code: Select all

[ ! "$MODE" ] && MODE="flat"
the theme is omitted from the gtk-chtheme choices.

I am not surprised that flat-gray-rounded are faster. That theme are very limited, and uses many of the default settings in gtk, so many widgets does not get any new theme-layer (ie. the radiobuttons and checkboxes). I would think that using the theme 'Default', it is possible to speed up things a bit further.

To get the correct picture of how the gradient vector graphics works compared to raster graphics, you should use the old Stardust theme as the reference.

Thank you - This leads to new insight.

Worse case, 2% slower than the raster (if you can trust it such a small difference...)

This is the gtk & openbox theme set I used in OBprecise 14.07.26, the gtk themes are called Prudence and require libpixmap, already in many puppies, and the clearlooks engine, included in the pet with matching openbox themes.

I had a go at modifying three gtk themes, the default? windoz10 theme not having a definitive scroll bar and steppers, which makes it hard to see and grip imo.

You will find Blue-Time, Blue-Steel and Industrial-Blue in usr/ share themes after installing the pet.
Definitely a work in progress, I converted some pngs to .svg in Industrial Blue but lost the plot a bit...
Looks like the baton has been passed over the years in modifying these, so if anyone fancies a tweaking challenge..Hopefully they will be good for puppy old and new.
