I'll add my support to further Stretch development. Using Billtoo's build - they have been a pleasure to use.

Only had problems on an emachines machine. Not Stretches fault

Thanks ansivar. Got the download ok now - sadly it won't run for me on Slacko:

Code: Select all

# netsurf
netsurf: symbol lookup error: netsurf: undefined symbol: z_errmsg
I'm not surprised it didnt work as it was never intended for Slacko but thought I'd give it a try anyway.
cheers!

The browser does update a bit, Gimp doesn't update, I don't know why you would want to update gimp, the latest doesn't offer much more for about 10 times the space, plus this one has some plugins already installed.

Raylink Wi-Fi issues

Hi! Playing around with Tops. Newer computers show a decided disdain for it!!! Not sure why -- but i have it running on my Lenovo S205. Wi-Fi NOT working -- i need the rt2x00pci module for the RT2900pci built-in card.

It seems there are several of these under the same name, so here are the specs for my card:

Image

I went to download additional modules -- what i need is not there. Of course, i have said module in a copy of TahrPup and probably in Slacko -- but IDK if i can somehow copy it into Tops and get it working. I tried copying the module from its location in TahrPup (i.e., /libmodules/3.14.56/kernel/drivers/net/wireless) into the corresponding location in Tops (2.14x) -- but, not surprisingly, no go. Invested a good bit of time in this, but no fruit. Thoughts?

Thanks!

You can find extra drivers at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=43653 tempestuous was awesome at providing these, maybe one might be the one your looking for, I usually just used lan for Internet.

FINALLY NAILED IT! After extensive searching, i found the correct 32-bit XP driver for 3090 (for Raylink models RT2800, RT2860, and IDK what others), downloaded them, and used NDISwrapper. Success. Time for bed.

For anyone in the future -- you can download the driver/module here. CORRECTION: SEE THE SECOND POST AFTER THIS ONE.

(Maybe one of these days i will get around to posting a page of the downloads i've had to track down that helped me, so others can access them as well...) Image

Man, ttuuxxx, this thing is FAST!!! Quick question -- running 2.17x from a USB stick, it doesn't see the laptop's HD. How to mount?

EDIT: solution found - see next post.
Well -- that was short-lived. I did not save my configuration and upon reboot, i could not get it to work. Not sure what happened and can't remember doing anything special i did not do again. Will repost when success happens....it's 2AM and this is my crazy computer tenacity gone awry.... Image

Joy again. Rather strange, this is how i got it running, IN ORDER:
  1. In Network Wizard, i used Ndiswrapper to load the bcmwl5a.inf driver/module. (Note the "a" in the file name.) It loaded but would not find a wifi interface.
  2. Next, i used Ndiswrapper to load the bcmwl5.inf driver/module. I loaded but failed to find a wifi interface. Notice that both drivers are now loaded.
  3. Finally, i used Ndiswraper to load the rt2860.inf driver/module. It loaded and found myRaylink wifi. Success!
As i recall, these were my steps experimenting last night before i rebooted and lost everything. Needless to say, this time i saved my puppy.

Soo -- I went back and tried setting up my network from scratch again, booting Puppy 2.17x live (i.e., not from the save file). Hmm -- trying to get it to recognize my wifi card through Ndiswrapper this time, i had to load that last module a few times...and it may help to "cancel" rather than "unload" that last module if it doesn't lead to discovery of your wifi right away, then retry a few times. Play with it...it finally worked for me again. If perchance you have this wifi adapter and you just can't get it ot work, you can download a 32mb pupsave file here, load it onto one of your drives, boot up 2.17x, and it will find that file and you should be in business. Of course, you will want to quickly resize that save file--!!

Hope this helps someone else someday.

Please Help Ttuuxxx, I'd Really Luv 2 include this iso ( along w/ Mean Pup 2.02 & GrafPup ) w/ Me GumBoot ( ie. Collection of 50 sumthing isos ) isobooter, ( isobooter Mostly Works on Puppy 3 Series, Dingo Series ( ie 4 ), Series 5 & Newer... ), Yet I'm rather Nostalgic about the Puppy Roots, So Accordingly I Really Wish I could include Series 1 & 2 Puppies in Me GumBoot Collection, But Alas it seems the Bar is Too High. :?

The Std Error, ( Last few lines )...

Looking (further) for pup_save.2fs in sdb1.... done

ERROR, cannot find Puppy on 'cd' boot media.

Exited to initial-ramdisk (/dev/ram0) commandline...
(the Linux-guru can now debug. 'e3' editor is available)

Can yoU Help w/ any Necessary Boot Parameters ( or Scripts ) Please... I've Already Tried root=/dev/ram0 as per isolinux.cfg & puppy acpi=off ide=nodma etc. What / that should be added 2 the menu.lst File How & where, Please?

I've Searched around the iNet & asked Questions here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 459#974459

& here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 157#976157
