Hello !

Sorry, I'm late ( as usual  )
I confess that the problem faced inoxidabile , I do not know anything, I would have been useless and totally newbie...
Thank you to everyone who participated, I learned a lot.

I'm sorry, but :
Would it be possible for you to add a waitdev boot param to Lxpup?
I don't know how to do this ?

Hi Jerome

I think?? you based LxPup on Upup Precise 54X3 with kernel 3.2.29 in which case the devx is in:

http://smokey01.com/pemasu/UpupPrecise/UpupPrecise54X3/

md5 is also there.

the one you've mentioned above is for the experimental Upup Precise with kernel 3.7.2.....

Hope I've got this right....
Cheers

Is this becomming a team efford ?

Jey69, Playdays,

I have not read the whole thread, but I was surprized to see Playdays join in. After Larry's succes of perfecting Lucid (still use it every day) and Jeromes energy and excelent initial work, LxPup could very well become the new Puppy generation.

Is this the plan ? A firm successor the the popular Lucid (also Ubuntu based). With LXDE, an Ubuntu core, and Puppies heart, it would make Lubuntu completely obsolete ....
I have always been puzzled why Lubuntu (Abiword, Gnumeric, Chromium) is 690Mb in size (even before a 190Mb live update).

:D Slacko 5.3.3 on eeePC, Lucid 528-4 on main desktop, Lubuntu 12:10 on eeePC :D

Thank you, Peebee indeed I was wrong ...
Fortunately, you've seen this error.

partsman, the ISO's MD5 is :

Code: Select all

I forget this information on the Website...
For devx sfs, follow the Peebee's link. :)

Hello Volhout,

Thanks for this point of view, but I do not think lxpup, may one day become the new Puppy generation. However, Puppy might well be adopted LXDE as a new desktop environment ?

Is this the plan ? I confess that I do not thinking long term, but Why not ? But I think projects like Archpup or Carolina, will get a higher status than Lxpup. I hope not to disappoint, but the next version will be based on Slacko 5.4.
I also leave Gnome 3.x, which is becoming increasingly difficult to operate. I can not start Gnome 3.6. Maybe Gnome 4.0?
For now it is a source of instability in Puppy. Soon, I will probably propose a package of Xfce 4.10, with Thunar 1.5.3 (Yahoo, tabs, finally!)

There is no plan Volhout. I am a fan of Lxpup and Jejy69. I think Lxpup is a great Puppy because it has good usability, a modern look and feel, and a working recycle bin. I am glad I was able to figure out how to get the Help working but I have a heavy load and won't be able to do much more. I hope Jejy69 will continue and I hope testers and developers will help him.

Hello Playdayz !

Thanks for your package ! :D

Just did a version of Lxpup with the latest k-3.2.37 kernel (non-pae) . My older hardware just doesn't like PAE. :)

Code: Select all

# uname -a

Good news,

Initial bootupt at correct resolution, wireless works, running from USB stick made with Pendrive Linux (select Puppy Lucid).

Tried live boot of 2 SFS's (GIMP and OPERA) got a freeze, but second try it worked fine. Cannot duplicate.

Nice crisp look and feel on this modern machine.

Will try to install the help fixes...

edit: install on a eeePC starts fine. minor practical problem: shutdown icon in bottom left is outside window (screen size 1024x600)...
Maybe an idea to remove one of the other icons, to make sure shutdown icon is visible.

Hello !

@playdayz, sorry, I did not know there were credits for it. I was totally unaware of any work about it from BigPup. :| :?:

@italianman_2112, Welcome ! :)
I'm sorry, I removed Gnome ( causes a lot of instability ).
To change Desktop, first log out, and type command to start
Xfce: xwin xfce4-session
Mate: xwin mate-session
Kde: xwin startkde
Lxde: xwin startlxde
Trinity: xwin startkde ( You must choose between Kde or Trinity, since they have the same session launcher :? )

What are the problems with Chromium ?
For the next release, I added a WM switcher-like. It will be useless to know commands.

@James C, nice work ! I will use a non Pae kernel for the next release  .

@Volhout, Nice news :D !
To change the launcher's position, you can simply add a 'space' applet after the launcher, and increase is size.

Freedom from ROX !!! I love Lxpup.

Hi Jerome !

I love Lxpup! I have used other Puppys before, but would always go back to something like Ubuntu because ROX would always drive me crazy. So far I really like Lxpup, same normal desktop as the big boys but with the speed of a Puppy.

I just have a question about Lxpup:

Lxpup Control Center acts kind of flaky with my mouse / trackpoint. If I double click something like software button, it will give me 3 or 4 windows. No matter how gently I press the button. It does not do this on the desktop if I click on a file or if I click on the file manager or menus. This works normal with a double click. I tested it with a USB mouse in case it was the trackpoint.

Another question, how can you test out the other DEs like GNOME and Cinnamon? Are these only in the newer PAE version?

I will go and install it to my laptop and continue to test it. I hope I can be of help in letting you know how it works on Thinkpads. So far it seems to act like regular retro Precise, no WiFi or Xorg problems. Software works with the exception of Firefox 16 not wanting to install. But since I was able to get my FF extension on SeaMonkey I am happy. Xmarks syncronizing my bookmarks keeps me sane. :D

@playdayz, sorry, I did not know there were credits for it. I was totally unaware of any work about it from BigPup.

I was just being silly Jejy. I love the phrase "Functional Assistance." A couple of years ago no Puppies had Working Help and BigPup led the movement to get it working in Lucid 5.2.8-005.

Hi evrybody!

I'm going on in LxPup test (on a pc better than the previous one :) ) and I've seen a strange behavior.
I inserted an USB key and I looked at ist content with PCman and after this I unmounted it clkicking on the little arrow at the left, near the USB's name.
The window close suddenly... is it normal?

An other thing: I followed the instructions of Jejy69 about changing of desktop.
So, I logged out and I tried as his indication but it remained logged out and any new session started.

However, I still think that LxPup is great and I agree with the idea of Volhout (it would make Lubuntu completely obsolete .... )

Hello !

Welcome natgab :D ,

What a strange problem! Thanks for your report, maybe a Python issue ? I'll see that ( it's a python software ).
Another question, how can you test out the other DEs like GNOME and Cinnamon? Are these only in the newer PAE version?

I'm sorry, but for now, I removed Gnome and Cinnamon, simply because they are unstable and I'm afraid of the consequences for the user. I will perhaps stable packages later.
The next version will have a kernel without PAE, more people will use it! :)

Thanks you !

( PS: Who is the character on your avatar, I've seen this character, but I can not remind me, I can not stop to think but I can not find ... )

playdayz,

Ok, "Functional Assistance" is an pompous expression, I used the same expression. Image

inoxidabile, thanks for your report !
Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix this bug...

About sessions, which session did you start ? Gnome/Cinnamon ? They are not working correctly...

For the next release, Will good news, Video/Music/Picture THUMBNAILS !
With Rhythmbox 2.95, Totem 3.4.3, Gthumb 3.0.1, LibreOffice 3.6.5 !
And a session switcher !
I changes ALL desktop icons, cool skin !
I installed ALL plugins to play ALL multimedia files !
Full KDE 4.9.5 with effects and many KDE apps !
Xfce 4.10 with Thunar 1.5.3 !

It will be good I hope ! :D

My avatar is Kiki from the anime Kikis Delivery Service. Lxpup Control Center works a little better if I use the Menu to turn it on. I was able to make Firefox work using the download from your page. It worked better than using the FF in Puppy Package Manager.

I also downloaded GIMP from your webpage, it works fine. But if you look at my picture, it got installed to the Utilites menu and not the Graphics menu. I also tried installing VLC from your page but it did not work. I have not tried VLC version from the Puppy Package Manager. I like the extra audio & subtitle control it has over GNOME player.

I am really enjoying Lxpup on my old Thinkpad laptop. My HD (expensive 1.8" iPod size) is failing and won't let me install a OS. So now I can boot from my USB and just use the HD as storage. :D
