Guys, be patient with the least knowable Nooby you can find on the internet now. I only voice my humble opinion.

I hope the 5.3 would boot on my Acer netbook D250 without needing to tell it to "nosmp" or is that no big deal maybe. Okay I know that Jemimah explain it to me so maybe it is totally okay but her Puppeee and Fluppy and pemasu's Snow Puppy none of them need the nosmp and just works.

So a 5.3 should be compatible that way out of the box in my humble opinion. :)
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

I'm guessing Barry will release a new woof soon, that's why spup is in a bit of a 'hiatus' at the moment.

Stay tuned..
Patiently waiting............... :)

01micko,

Posting now from a frugal installation of 055 on an old Sony Vaio Laptop with only 64MB ram. It's working great.

What is status of 056 now that new woof is out?

Cheers,
JJim

Spup is great; very stable on my machine, an HP desktop with 512MB of ram. Running from live CD, with savefile on USB stick. Extremely quick.

One slight (tiny) issue. When using the PPM, I selected the most up to date firefox 3.6.13. After installation, browse button directed to firefox and there was a firefox menu choice in "internet". However, the seamonkey buttons, while still in the menu, only opened firefox. Remove firefox, and seamonkey selections function again.

installed firefox 3.6.13 from the quirky-wary repository (BK blogged about this issue), and all menu choices, firefox and seamonkey, work fine. Just FYI. Truly a great release, and worthy of an official puppy #. Pardon if the issue is already addressed.

Fresh manual frugal install of 056 on the main Linux box. Everything good on initial boot. Installed Mesa and....

# glxgears
418 frames in 5.0 seconds = 83.600 FPS
494 frames in 5.0 seconds = 98.713 FPS
475 frames in 5.0 seconds = 94.969 FPS
464 frames in 5.0 seconds = 92.723 FPS
443 frames in 5.0 seconds = 88.490 FPS

Kinda like the new look too.... :)

Forgot I had the Nvidia driver (96.43.19-k2.6.34.1) for this old card....

# glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
3215 frames in 5.0 seconds = 642.352 FPS
2674 frames in 5.0 seconds = 534.655 FPS
2611 frames in 5.0 seconds = 522.096 FPS
2431 frames in 5.0 seconds = 486.042 FPS
2601 frames in 5.0 seconds = 520.135 FPS
2692 frames in 5.0 seconds = 538.289 FPS

A little better. :)

Didn't the video upgrade offer that as an upgrade?

 :P

I found the bug.

You need to download this file and pop it in /root/.packages

http://www.brainwavedesigncentral.net/m ... unofficial

Then probably reboot? (not sure)

 .. testing is fun
