mikeslr. Thank you. I have got one report before of installed retrovol problem. Retrovol speaker icon disappeared from his tray. I suggested him to try absvolume, which fixed his problem. So the bug has been quite inconsistent, but to have it pinpointed and there is solution in the pet, is more than better :)
I consider adding it to the next Snow Puppy.
I will upload your pet to the ftp site.

Well found out it didn't create the save file properly, I deleted it and made a new one and it was good. And I think you meant lspci and here's that: http://ompldr.org/vOGhzbQ put the screenshot as a link because for some reason it wouldn't show up when I put the image tags.

MarioMaster100. Well, I really meant that after you have got that modem connected and it really works and you can get to the net with it, then you must have right kernel driver module uploaded and it shows when you do that lsmod in console. It shows what module or modules are needed for working net connection.

But your lspci helps already, I got specs of your Conexant.

MarioMaster100. I made pet for hsfmodem, not sure if it is the right one, but install it and probably reboot, not sure if it is needed.
I dont know do you need to load the kernel module manually. There were several kernel module drivers in the install. That much I know about old phoneline modems.
I also uploaded latest rerwin modem update package. Not sure if it helps but it is made by Puppy modem Master rerwin.

Download link http://smokey01.com/pemasu/Drivers/hsfm ... -lupe5.pet

Well the modprobe pet wouldn't install and after I installed the hsfmodem pet my sound broke. What was the suggested puppy that has support for my modem and what info did I need to give you for you to be able to make a pet that would give my modem support?

MarioMaster100. Lucent hsfmodem package has drivers for sound so the sound driver replacing is possible. I noticed that when I tested the modem packaged. My sound driver was replaced also. I dont know why there is ( or try to be) support for sound in those drivers.

You didnt tell, were your modem diagnosed.

Well, as I stated, all Barry Kaulers Puppy builds should have good support for old modems. Even his recent Wary build and probably babyQuirky also. Puppy 431 is good choice also.

If I would know the driver module loaded in one of those, then I could compile the right one.

Modem probe update package installed just fine for me. I downloaded it and installed, no problem.

wifi not working on dell 1018 (realtek)

#447 Post by nav.g »

I am a newbie to linux, but i do understand the realities and possibilities of linux. My question is, the driver (which is r8192ce_pci) for realtek wifi card (dell inspiron 1018) in Puppy 525 works flawless, but it is not working in Snow Puppy, is there a minor adjustment i have to do, or there is a different driver. If there is a different driver , then why is it so?

nav.g. Reason is that there wasnt that driver included.
Interesting, r8192ce_pci should be extra driver for 2.6.33.2 kernel made by Tempestuous. I believe playdayz has updated driver storage from that tempestuous thread.

I made a pet of latest realtek 8192 drivers.
Install the pet and reboot.

Well the modem probe thing never installed and the hsfmodem pet didn't help. What puppy do you keep referring to, is that the lts wary puppy on the puppy homepage or the latest one?

MarioMaster100. You can test with any of Wary builds. I am sure that these have as good pholine modem support as Puppy can get.
I have 2 old Wary isos and they have z.....sfs inside, which has those modem modules included.

Download link you can find from the post below.
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02149

Main thing is to boot with your modem attached so that puppy will recognize it, test that it goes to the net and then run lsmod in console. Post the result here as I described before.

So I have the latest wary puppy iso but it doesn't seem to want to write to my jump drive with unetbootin, I tried multiple times, I even erased it and then tried and it won't boot.

Edit: nvm thought I had the latest anyways got the latest and it should be fine .

Hey pemasu, enjoy using sp 16 on my new HP 2x intel. In ICE Puppy 08 can't get it to recognize ethernet on eth1 on same HP. Have broadcom 4727 and Barry's sns shows it is a wl pci x.

Looking though the repositories only find wl_2.14.0 which looks like something else. Could you post it as a pet or tell me where it is located in sp 16 and I'll copy it.

thanks jim

Alright well finally got the modem working in a wary with 2 pet packages from rerwin so here's the lsmod: http://pastebin.com/DuYARRJN . The pastebin may not be perfect because this particular puppy's terminal didn't support copying and pasting the text.

MarioMaster100. You have been really stubborn with this modem project, lol.
Thank you of lsmod pasting. Now I am on the tracks. I will now download Barrys modem sources. First hsfmodem packge hcfpcimodem-1.21full.tar.gz
compiled fine. It seems to have those modules which you had loaded in your lsmod listing.
Now I will compare Barrys Wary to see what stuff was included in the build. What Barrys Wary version did you use ? I need to download the right version.
And could you post here those 2 pets which you got from Rerwin, it would help to see what you needed to get your modem working.
I will try to do as working package as I can straight.

MarioMaster100. I was wrong. The modem driver package you will need is probably hsfmodem-7.80.02.06full-dellhybrid. It has all the modules which were loaded in your lsmod posting. And it is really problematic.
Rerwin has provided the updating pet for previous Wary: modem_update_to_wary094-woof-4 which might help.

Hsfmodem-7.80.02.06full-dellhybrid also does not compile in 2.6.35.7 kernel. But there is patched version, http://www.bargweb.net/images/2009/nove ... dition.zip which compiles but it might cause missed sound and also comp freeze. So it would need probably fixes which are beyond me.
There is info that alsa-driver-linuxant could restore the broken sound: http://www.linuxant.com/alsa-driver/arc ... ll.deb.zip

I really would like to get information, what pets and also what other information you got from Rerwin. It looks like that getting your modem working in Snow Puppy is at the limits of my knowledge and ability.

jim3630. Just noticed your post. You cant copy kernel module drivers to the puppy using different kernel.

If I understood right you have working wired eth in Snow Puppy and you would like to have it also in Ice Puppy. First I would need to know what driver is loaded succesfully in Snow Puppy. You can check the loaded modules from SNS.

Broadcom 4727 sounds like wireless chip not wired ethernet card. If it is so, it will need special driver for it.
Snow Puppy has that wl module included in build like many other wireless modules. I have now updated them even more.

I have made that as pet for Ice Puppy for previous 006 version. http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/IcePuppy ... lupe15.pet

It wont work in 008-009, I need to recompile it for those versions. I might do that anyway.

Also in console you can find specs by #lspci -nn -v and post the findings regarding ethernet controller and wireless. All rows of those two. With getting those specs and rev numbers I can check what drivers you need in Ice Puppy.

Ice Puppy is now in version 009.

I will make next Snow Puppy when Barry announces the next woof. It has important fixes. I have updated quite many applications also.
