Thanks, pemasu. There's magic in this distro :-)
Many thanks.

Okay...I have started slowly to update packages for Polarpup-0.0.6. Let`s see if I succeed.
Anyway...problem with.... Qupzilla 1.1.5. There has been problems with compiling it and it seems my Qt-4.8.0 RC something version suffers from it also.
It compiles in final Qt-4.8.0 qt libs...in dpup exprimo....succesfully...but not in Polarpup...

I am afraid that Polarpup is the product of its time and the usefulness has its limits...now I encountered one limit.
Atm I just dont have time enough to rework whole Polarpup concept...I mean compile the Qt-4.8.0 and recompile all the apps again...not even test the previous all Qt apps if they work with that recompiled Qt-4.8.0.

I have to admit that debian squeeze based dpup is so flexible for me and the compiling in it has been non-problematic all the time. I have managed to compile in dpup difficult Qt apps also...like Musescore 1.1.
Well...Musescore 1.0 compiled in Polarpup easily also...so points to Polarpup also.

But here is Qupzilla-1.15 compiled in dpup exprimo. It is compatible because it used the final Qt-4.8.0 compiling environment.

I will continue the update bit by bit for Polarpup-0.0.6 but boy...so...many apps needs to be updated...not speaking the recent woof compatibility. I dont know when the work is done..

Allo, pemasu.

Thanks for this and your other updates.

Here is a question that may be -- or not -- an answer to the problem you expose in your previous message : "What is the most likely candidate for a LTS puppy among all your recent puppy derivatives?"

Continue the good work!

With very best regards.

Christian

pemasu doesn't have Wine pet iirc.

green_dome is your man.

Hi hoven - jim3630 is correct, green_dome is certainly "Mr Wine". However, I'm pretty certain that the Wine version I was using was downloaded from one of pemasu's repositories on smokey01's server, so I don't know if pemasu compiled it, or whether it was a version he checked worked best in his dpup or PolarPup series. I'll track the link down for you and report soon...

UPDATE: _how_strange_ :?:
Coulda sworn that I got it from pemasu's collection - and his Aladdin's Cave of wonders here http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/ (and subdirectories) should have had it, so I must be mistaken.
I'm using "Wine-1.3.13-Lucid52" - I probably downloaded it via PPM - and I have to say it comes well recommended, being packaged with a Winetricks that is easy to navigate and select options for. Can't be sure but it might require zenity for that extra functionality,
HTH?

EDIT: I think I must have used playdayz' beaut effort here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ucid52.pet, from about a year ago here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 570#497570 (Explains why I'm a bit dribbly about details)

Pemasu,

What do you think of the idea of making new versions of Polarpup to be based on your Dpup instead of lucid-based?
Then your compiled apps would be compatable for both Puplets.

That will be probably the way i will need to do it. My compiles are nowdays done in dpup.

I haven't been testing out many new puplets lately, but I tried the latest Exprimo SMP version last night. I was surprised by the amount of new apps added compared to when I tried dpup before that. And the size of the ISO has gone down too.
Did you use xz compression and/or reduced the number of libs added?

No doubt, dpup is good...good enough to be an official puppy.
The only thing that stopped me from using it regularily was that Icewm wouldn't display the tray properly in it. I know it has to do with the delayedrun script, but I was too lazy to look at it in detail. When I have some time, I will see if I can fix it; but my coding skills aren't great. Someone like 01micko or technosaurus could have it done way faster.

Xz compression did the trick. I dont bother much with stripping down the libraries.
Yeah. Dpup evolves according to murga-linux posted and updated Puppy apps and also through feedback and by my own findings. I dont have very bright goal...but have fun with users...coders....and to create user friendly experience.

I finally got around to installing icewm on your dpup today.

I discovered the tray icons work on this version ??? so somewhere along the line, the problem got fixed without my knowledge, cause for sure it wasn't on the last version of exprimo I tried.

Well no need for me to fix anything '

So exprimo is going in the list of my regular used pups for my AMD dual-core.

Tman. When you posted about the problem first time...couple of months ago. I tested the icewm and tray icons...but I cant remember if did something to them. I got them working...but I cant remember more...

Cheers pemasu,

was busy working away in Polarpup-005 when my lappie died suddenly - I hadn't hit the power button on the wall socket properly, and hadn't realized I wasn't running on mains. Apologies if you've addressed this elsewhere and I've missed it - but is there a low power warning app you could recommend for this distro? I seem to recall you have reservations about vattery (Exprimo thread) and in the 'laptop-acpi-battery-tools' pet from your repository I can't find a battery power alarm function anywhere,
Thanks.

Vattery-acpitool works ok. Vattery-ibam does not recognize all hw. I believe Polarpup has both installed. If it does not show in tray...it means that vattery-ibam has crashed. You need to edit /root/Startup/1vattery script.
Remove all else but leave vattery-acpitool row.
Now you should have Vattery in tray after launching the 1vattery script or restarting X.
When you right click the Vattery in tray...you can change the preferences. You can execute commands also.
I have in critical /etc/acpi/sleep.sh

Thanks very much pemasu - sorry that I hadn't replied earlier, but I'll give your recipe a go and report back here later,
Cheers!

I compiled latest Qupzilla-1.1.8. It has inbuild RSS reader and adblock.
Private browsing mode also. Pet size 1.6 Mb. For it`s size it is really promising. Five themes included. NLS as separate pet.

Thanks for the Qupzilla update pemasu! The cosmetic issues I mentioned earlier re icons and address bar entries are solved now - works absolutely fab in an Anglofied Hungarian XP 528 puppy from skami and kros54 (XP Puppy 528 HU 2 - Hungarian Puppy Linux HQ: http://skami.homelinux.org/index.php?op ... d=8:puplet shame - they seem to be offline :( )
I hope to try it soon in PolarPup005 on my T60 ThinkPemasu,
Cheers!

YESSSSssss! Instant gratification! (Just took a while for me to get around to it on the Lenovo T60)
Thanks so much for that tip, pemasu. I had nearly forgotten all about it until I rebooted earlier today and saw all the fsck ing going on for the sfs and savefile. This is a major weight off my mind now - thanks :)

Hello, pemasu.

I don't know if this has been noted before... The icewm menu seems to be losing the "desktop" section when you update it with fixmenus.

Best regards.
