slacko-6.0 beta 2
I took another stab at pui-experimental2.tar.gz and got it right this
time, the puppy universal installer from the menu had all the icons
etc after running the install file inside pui-experimental2.tar.gz.
I ran the pui from my last install on the 32gb flash drive, I chose
a 16gb flash drive and a screen with gparted info came up from which I
prepared the target drive, then back to continue the
installation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New installation running from a hp desktop:
I installed the newest proprietary nvidia driver and it gave errors about not knowing the
architechure of several files but it is working fine:

I'm on it. Note that there's a separate langpack_es for Woof-CE:01micko wrote:Can you check translations when we are finished please? Won't be long and it would be nice to have at least a couple of translations ready to roll.

This one applies to Slacko 5.7+, TahrPup and FluxPup so far, I'll let you know when Slacko 6 translations are ready. Xanad adopted the same approach for Italian:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=94195
Also, as there's been a lot of changes just now, maybe it's a good idea to rename langpacks by Puppy version instead of release date.
You should also PM the other translators for updates, so that the langpacks can be installed by PPM. (Is it still called PPM? Kidding)

Confirmed, it's ok now, thanks!01micko wrote: Yeah I didn't get to invoking it for full yet. Also, now I have removed the break so if 'doze is not on (0,0) it still works.
I noticed that libuuid in Slacko-5.9.x is not patched for f2fs, what causes problems in pup-volume-monitor, as Peebee have reported (details).
[forecaster_mode] I hope it will be possible to resolve it otherwise, but if you decide to restore the old util-linux-2.21.2-patched_f2fs-i486, could you please also include missing header files (esp. uuid.h) into it? I was having problems compiling some of apps in Slacko-5.7 without those. [/forecaster_mode]

I already noticed and already compiled, but I'm still trying to figure out exactly what is needed in the package. I'm thinking sfdisk will be nice to have. Slackware util-linux includes bsd-strings, so I might just do it ala slackware. I'll probably have to do the same for precise if headers are missing from BK's old package.SFR wrote:I noticed that libuuid in Slacko-5.9.x is not patched for f2fs, what causes problems in pup-volume-monitor, as Peebee have reported (details).

@Mick: Phacile-blue theme has wrong permissions/owneship. Corrected package attached, but there was an extra step necessary to make it work under spot (details). No idea why, but this is needed even after installing the theme from the pet below, so not sure how will it behave when built from Woof.
@Zigbert: if ptheme was launched for the first time as user root, it creates and leaves some files @ /tmp/ptheme/ dir.
Since /tmp has sticky bit set, it's not possible to launch ptheme as user spot after that.
Perhpas something like:
would be in order?
However on the other hand (spot case) it does not play nice with ROX pinborad and JWM buttons, so I wanted to try simple:
but sudo segfautls on me all the time!

A distro designed to run as root from the ground up is a lot of work to bend into running as user. I gave up on that a while back. Sudo is there so I'll rebuild it. It's a pretty old version in there now.. or maybe I'll pull in slackware version with a new template.. easier
Any luck with su -c?

su: must be suid to work properly
Tried sudo-1.8.6 from 14.1 and no segfault this time, but "Sorry, try again." instead (pfix=RAM, default woofwoof pass)...unless I'm doing it wrong, too..?
That's the effect of lack of experience in multiuser enviroment, I guess.

Hmmm... trying to login as spot then run stuff as su is a no go. See spot and fido are "squatters".. they are homeless....
You may (or may not) have better luck adding a user and making a real $HOME for him. But don't count on it. See earlier post! (Why I gave up.. expensive time waster.. better off to fix real bugs in the context of how puppy is designed). If xwin, rox, and all were designed right then there would be no issues.. but Barry wanted the thing to be as easy as windows.. which at the time ran as 'administrator' by default. Vista broke that trend and didn't doze users hate it!!! IMHO, Vista is the most secure doze to date .. Just happens to be the slowest too. Seems MS had plenty of teething issues translating from root2user... too.
Anyway.. now for some real stuffs..

Sorry, no time to check/test, but is (experimental) support for PUPMODE=6/7 removed? or the distinction between PUPMODE 12-13 also covers PUPMODE 6-7?
Thx
Ooops ment to post in the SFS_load thread but I guess this will do too.

slacko-5.9.3.6
Extra sfs totally managed by the sfs_load trial
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/slacko/test/
slacko-5.9.3.6-whiteouts.tar.gz is the archive of the new files against slacko-5.9.3.
Extract and over write the slacko-5.9.3 if you have frugally installed on linux partitions.
The iso is also available if you like.
1667b324258a92e876617cb905adce3e slacko-5.9.3.6.iso
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/slacko/test/
Mainly fix against the whiteout issue from the previous 5.9.3.5.
No update like new installers or any other than listed bellow.
Check the sfs_load version is 2.0.12.
Start with pfix=ram for precise test.
slacko-5.9.3.6 is a trial which includes...
1. seve-to-directory fix (df matter)
2. Extra sfs totally managed by the sfs_load.
3. Some tweaks to speed up at boot and at install/uninstall packages
4. Allow symlink for Puppy files.
5. ntfs permission to be 755.
NOTE on whiteout:
The whiteout need different treatment depends on the PUPMODE, typically next 3:
1) PUPMODE=5 or PUPMODE=12
2) PUPMODE=13 and RAMSAVEINTERVAL>0
3) PUPMODE=13 and RAMSAVEINTERVAL=0
Report with what PUPMODE you have tested. PUPMODE is written on the text file /etc/rc.d/PUPSTATE.
Note on symlink with NTFS filesystems:
Symlink is OK for SFS files. But vmlinuz and initrd.gz cannot use symlink on NTFS because the grub4dos does not follow symlink as for ntfs.

PUPMODE=6/7 support
PUPMODE=6 is support as before. But the extra SFS with PUPMODE=7 is basically not supported. The extra SFS with PUPMODE=7 will be installed as a PET. But I have never tested.mavrothal wrote:is (experimental) support for PUPMODE=6/7 removed?
Try editing /usr/sbin/sfs_load and make PUPMODE7SUPPORT 'true' if you want to test PUPMODE=7 support same as like PUPMODE=13.

True, there's no point in wasting time on it just before the release.01micko wrote:better off to fix real bugs
It's not so important to me after all, as I'm running only a couple of network related apps as user spot, just like to have different GTK themes for both users.
Just checked and fortunately ptheme_gtk does it correctly for spot.

All seems to be ok, only .wh files related to given SFS are deleted.
2. PM=13, SI=0
Ok if .wh files are in pup_rw, but if session has been saved and .wh files are in pup_ro1, they aren't deleted.
From what I've seen in the code this is desired behavior..?

Same as No.2, but it's because of a slight bug in line 1195:
