conversion of wave file to mp3

#41 Post by don570 »

I've been working on a simple way of
converting wave files
using Rox's right click feature.

I'll eventually put it in my package, but here's
the results so far. I localized it using
Zigbert's method so it's easy for anyone
to convert it to French etc. There is a warning if
the mp3 file already exists.

Thanks for supporting Lucid

I have suggested by PM that Larry (playdayz)
has a break and then considers Finlandia aka THD
for an official release.

The feedback has been very positive. 8)

Re: Upgrade from LP525 with universal installer went well

#43 Post by bigpup »

openwell2 wrote:Hi,
I was able to upgrade from full install hdd Puppy 525 using the universal installer, pfix=ram and upgrade choice. Everything looks really nice and graphics seem much clearer in 528.
But I noticed that it uses a lot of ram? I have firefox 6.0 and desktop running with no flashplayer site and it is using about 270MB of 2.5 GB on P4 2.8 Ghz Sony Vaio desktop. I have swap file of 2.0 GB and 120 GB Hdd.
With a flashplayer site open in firefox and this forum I am using about 370MB?
Before with same site combo I was only using aroung 200MB?
Does this seem correct? :?
Is anyone else seeing such a high jump in Ram usage with it?
Thanks
I am using Iron 10 browser with the latest Flashplayer.
I checked with Htop and memory use does seem higher, but not as bad as you.
Mine is around 170MB.
What does show is the Flashplayer plugin going all over the place in using memory. Jumps up and down about every two seconds.

openwell2 does mention memory usage. I was not aware of such things but I did notice that my CPU was warmer than it is on old Lupu 513 that I use daily.

So somebody less lazy than me can look into it maybe?

I cannot connect to the wireless network using either SNS or Network wizard. When I select 'wlan0' from within SNS it doesn't seem to pick up my network or any networks. The ifconfig wlan0 command returns:

Code: Select all

ifconfig: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Protocol error
I was thinking it may be that I have added a couple of programs (skype, pidgin) to load on startup but have deleted these from startup folder and still not connecting at bootup or using network wizard/SNS.

Installed my usual way, FRUGAL Lin'N'Win.
Activated my applications environment, which did run without problems.
However 528 sems to need some more cpu cycles and runs hotter, as I hear the fan quite often. (running for the moment at 75°C and only SeaMonkey active.

Don't know how pemasu does it, but his latest dpup 5.0.0.5 runs much cooler and seems snappier.

In different puppy's this issue pops up. I can't remember what causes it, but searching for SIOCSIFFLAGS with the puppy search link in my sig may gave posts with a solution.

it seems to work if I connect to network first via my HD install of 5.1.1.56 and then reboot to live cd 528 it scans ->> connects effectively. Strange and I don't get it.

Cool that Beem also did notice the running more hot feature.

What can that be about?

Hi All

I have a new install of 528 with save file and sfs on hd. Using Toshiba Sat Pro 4200 800Mz and 320MB. I downloaded and installed Opera 11.5 and flashplayer when requested to do it. I believe flash version to be 10.3.183.5. Was able to transfer favorites, e-mail etc from Opera 10 which I was using with 5.2.0. In settings>preferences>advanced>content I ticked the box for "enable plugins only on demand" as a kind of flashblock. Although I can play some flash content such as you-tube video I cannot play the flash video on the BBC Weather site here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/5?area=EH1 Sound is played but no video. This does play properly on the earlier version of Opera 10 with an earlier version of libflashplayer.so. I am wondering if anybody else has had similar problems with this combination of browser and flashplayer and whether there is a solution.

Regards,

Ken.

keniv Yes that is surprising because that link even work in the old Snow Puppu 5 using Firefox and it's built in Flash so why would not Opera work?
I am too lazy to test though.

firefox 6.0 with 528 seems to "ram hog"

#57 Post by openwell2 »

I was so frustrated with the high ram usage with this pup that I thought about reinstalling pup 525! It seems to be related to firefox somehow. I removed firefox 5.0 (which auto-updated to 6.0). Followed by quick-pet install firefox 3.6.13 Ram usage now seems normal. I will wait and see if anyone else has ram problems before I decide what to do next. Maybe this 2-headed pup is consuming too much ram LOL

For everyone who sees high ram usage.
Run a browser.
Run Htop program.
See if you are seeing the same thing I am.
Flashplayer plugin is constantly going up and down in ram usage.
This could be causing CPU cycle usage also.
More problems with Flashplayer.

Firefox 6.0 is beta version of Firefox.
Expect it to be buggier.
Not Puppy causing this. You proved that.

I am using Iron 10 browser with latest Flashplayer.
Tried your BBC link
Videos played OK for me.
I think Opera 11.5 is the problem. Have seen other reports of issues with it.

Try not having this selected.
