You're the third person I've seen talking about compiling 1.38 in the last couple of days... I've been trying to compile 1.3.9, but I seem to be the only one... what's the deal? Is it just coincidence, and you've all made typos? Or is 1.3.8 what's showing up in your part of the world?

If you manage to compile it, please tell me how you got past the stupid aclocal error

only speaking for me, it's even more simple: last time i visited their hp, 1.38b was actual... but now i know, i won't try 1.38b but 1.39b. thanks, you saved we lots of work :D
Or is 1.3.8 what's showing up in your part of the world?
thanks god, we're not only geographically far away from china.

you'll have to update automake for that one.

Should those of us struggling with problems wait for the 1.39b release, Aragon?

I cannot seem to get past the problem with mp3 Export.

edoc, in short: i really don't know.

i will look at it tomorrow, but compiling audacity is a little bag of suprises....

We sure appreciate all that you are doing with this - there really does not seem to be anything that compares for Puppy.

I will let my son know that he needs to wait until tomorrow ...

We shouldn't need automake though... :(

maybe you're also missing a symlink like edoc.

please open a terminal and try to start audacity with audacity. if it does not start, it will give you a message about whats missing. please post here.

I seem to recall earlier in this thread the fix for that is to copy-symlink the "8" version that comes with Puppy and rename it "6"

@ maxtor
install the attached flac-package. that should solve the problem.

Which previous SFS version and where do I find it, please?

The links on an older Audacity thread are all bad, though that wasn't an SFS.
The version I have is Audacity 1.3.4-beta (ANSI). To be more specific I probably made the SFS version by extracting the files from a
PET version and using (later on) mksquashfs to create a SFS version.

It doesnt appear that this version requires FLAC and I would use the lame command line utility to convert any wav files to MP3. I also have included in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PATH environment variables the ".:" characters to enable the current working directory to be searched for libraries. The SFS contains the files listed below and as previously stated seems to work just fine in "dingo" if run from the command prompt:

mkdir /tmp/aud
mount -t squashfs /mnt/hda6/files/aud.sfs /tmp/aud -o loop,ro
cd /tmp/aud/aud
./audacity

The files listed in /tmp/aud/aud are as follows:

Someone suggested that Alsa be eliminated as a potential variable in the Audacity-Lame MP3 problem.

According to Patriot he has tested "Audacity 1.39 beta binary and everything flows smoothly when exporting my audio files to mp3 with lame 3.98-2"

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 915#340915

WDYT?

edoc,

patriot pm'ed me about that. but i didn't have export problems with mp3, so i'm a little lost about that. but i'll test 1.39b with other config options.

@ ALL
please look here for another test release with audacity 1.39b: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=46357

this has also reported problems (similar to the one posted here).

i won't try to fix problems with 2 different beta-version of audacity....

hope this is understandable ;-)
