@ ttuuxxx:

My Free File Hoster seems to have a size limit of 100MB (see first page that opens).

For larger size allowances check these lists:

http://www.filehosthome.com/

http://www.110mb.com/forum/biggest-list ... 428.0.html

As of right now, your link on page 1 with MyFreeFileHoster has expired. One can still download after following another link given there. But IMHO this is acceptable but not ideal.

@wuwei Thank you for the links.

ttuuxxx I have downloaded it I don't want to burn a disc to test it. So what boot parameters should I use for a [EDIT] sater (Badly spelled.) hard disk and flash drive install?

I'm looking for tips on how to uninstall Flash 10, and then install Flash 9 on Puppy 2.14X. The newest Flash won't let me gather videos the way I can with Flash 9. What would I be sacrificing by substituting Flash 9 for Flash 10? I currently use Puppy 2.17.1 which has Seamonkey 1.1.8. What would be easier to do, to downgrade Flash 10 to Flash 9 in Puppy 2.14X, or upgrade SM 1.1.8 to SM 2.0.4 in Puppy 2.17.1?

Thanks

I'm not an expert here but I don't think the standard 2 series Pups such as 2.17.1 will work with Seamonkey 2 series (different libraries or something).

Your best bet IMO is to download one of Philippe's static seamonkey builds, which already contain their own libraries;

http://www.lamarelle.org/mo-zi-lla/mozilla.php#sm

You may have more luck using a standard Seamonkey 2 series with ttuuxxx's Classic Pup, which uses newer libraries.

Flash; I'm afraid this is outside my competence. I avoid it on my own computer where I can as I'm limited to dialup.

Hi, I have a simple question: Is puppy 2.x.x faster than 4.x.x or is it simply more compatible with old hardware due to using older Kernel version?

It depends what you mean faster, Firefox is faster, boot times is about 2 seconds faster, and it takes less memory.

Boy have I been out of touch. And I'm not getting update announcements either.

I'm updating my download page to RC5 as I type this, so Classic will be available there in a few minutes. (See below)

I see I've got about 30 pages to collect apps from too. I'll get that sorted out asap.

Sorry for being absent folks.

Here's gtkball it comes with one small theme, I tossed the other 2 larger ones to slim down the package size :) plus it should work on small screens that way, Its pretty much the same as 5Ball you need to line up 5 in a row of the same colour to remove the balls.

even though i like to try most of the new pups that come out, 214X is set as my default in my menu.lst and is really the only one i run to actually do anything on.

okay, first things first, GEES did Australia get schilacked in la copa mundial by alemania. (i have to watch the games on the spanish station) :)

okay next thing, maybe someone can tell me how to do this. i am not able to copy and paste from ghostview. is there a way to do this? i sometimes need to copy things from a pdf.

just curious, it doesn't matter to me, but are you planning on upgrading firefox to the 3.6 series?

ohhhh... since i'm at it i may as well keep going :). in gxine i can't drag the scroll bar. i can hit fast forward but dragging the scroll bar doesn't do anything. does anyone else have this issue?

and...ummm... still just curious if you have played around with any other xorg versions. i still use xvesa b/c xorg in 214X freezes my system in firefox everytime. i understand you have one that you like but I was just thinking maybe there has been another that you are starting to like. if not, thats fine, still just hoping there has been a breakthough.

I've used the built-in update mechanism in Firefox and I'm running 3.6.4 right now.
Can't really help on the other things though. :)

SMC wireless PCMCIA network

#3656 Post by cbs »

I am using an SMC 2632W.v2 PCMCIA network card on my
Compaq Armada M300; 600MHz; 320 MB ram; 40GB hdd

With Puppy 4.32, the card was detected automatically and the module atmel_cs was automatically loaded. The card worked well with occasional drop in connection. The other problem with 4.32 is that the computer does not shut down completely when I shut down.

Downloaded Puppy2.14x-RC5. This Puppy seems to load faster than 4.32.
And it also shuts down completely when I shut down.
But it does not detect the SMC card when booting. I had to load the atmel_cs module manually and then the interface is detected.
When scanning for networks, the card is unable to detect any networks around.
Did I miss something in loading the atmel_cs module?

james c: when i go to menu>help>check for updates firefox tells me there are no updates available but menu>help>about firefox says it is running 3.5.10. IDK. Like I mentioned, it doesn't matter to me, I was just wondering what Ttuuxxx's next move would be. thanks :)

Hi sinc my next move will be updating a few puppy versions I'm currently supporting when I get some time, mostly on weekends.
I'll see what I can do this weekend :) The only thing on my plate this weekend is installing a Sony amp in my Ute :) I still like music load, still a teenager at heart.

compiling project

#3659 Post by yorkiesnorkie »

Hi,

Just to let you know I'm still going to have at compiling the current version of ClamAV for 214x rc5. I got side tracked by a couple of home renovation projects, and a few other things.

I'd like to compile ClamAV on the laptop rather than lock up my wife's pc for a while. Hey, at least I have her using Linux, :). Either that or wait until a week or so from now when she's planning an outing. I did get 214x installed on that pc without a hitch.

However, I still can't get 214x to run on my IBM laptop but I'm almost there. I had a little time to myself on the weekend and copied the files to the HD manually. I'm going to try to replace my boot stanza, I'm getting the "busybox" error mentioned a few pages back and I think I'm missing a vital entry from the grub boot stanza.

On a general note, boy it does take a long time to compile something. Well, that's probably due to the low ram... It gets there, eventually.

Until later,

Y.

214x Installation Workaround

#3660 Post by yorkiesnorkie »

As you know I couldn't get the live CD to boot my old laptop. So to install 214x rc5 I did the following:
  • moved my 431 frugal installation to sda1
left grub on the ext2 partition.
Booted from a 2.17 live CD
    Installed 2.17 to the partition
During the install, copied the boot stanza to my current Grub Menu

Code: Select all

#Start of 217
#title = Puppy 217 (frugal) on hda2
#rootnoverify (hd0,1)
#kernel (hd0,1)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 pmedia=idehd
#initrd (hd0,1)/initrd.gz
#End of 217
#Start of 214x
title = Puppy 214x (frugal) on hda2
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
kernel (hd0,1)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 pmedia=idehd
initrd (hd0,1)/initrd.gz
#End of 214x
  • Replaced all the 217 files in the ext2 partition with those from the 214x CD, initrd.gz, pup_214X.sfs, vmlinuz, zdrv_214X.sfs.
    Rebooted
Chose 214x from the menu, and voila!
    It booted!
Now, I have a desktop, lovely volkswagen.

Thoughts - It doesn't like to co-exist with other frugal installations? Not sure about that. It wouldn't boot with 431 in the same partition on my previous attempt. I'll have to explore that a little. So, I'll get back to you on that.

I'm having some difficulty with the wireless configuration. It won't take, but I can see the network. Hence this is from my 431 install.
