Ha Ha, .....that'd destroy the Internet for sure....there's millions of forums in use with even more avatars than active users....
but I shouldn't laugh, that might be part of the evil plan for oneworldgovernment-ww3-doom-end-of-world scenario?

On some forum here in Sweden they have famous people as Avatars.
If the owner of that picture bark loud I guess the user is in deep trouble.

Ooops no it will be the owner of the forum that is in deep shit.
All Admins have to block any kind of jpg due to this blessing from the copyright friends.

But realistically they start out with copyrighted music on Youtube.
They will also clamp down on all clips from movies? and Commercial TV shows.

I feel unsure of how they will relate to all young artists singing covers.

The song as such is the artists but they sing something that they have
no right to sing. Only the owners of that copyright can give a yes or no.

Unless you pay a very high sum for being allowed to produce such on a
commercial basis like if you are a Radio Station on Internet instead of on air. Then you pay annually and give them lists on what music you played. To just sing others music would most likely not be allowed?

Privately maybe one are allowed to do it if those who listen are friends and it is not accessable by anybody outside the "circle of friends"
so maybe music will get moved to private clubs for sharing music?
if even that will get accepted by the law?

Wow, what an annoying website. Can't even read the article, it jumps around so much. Don't website creators ever look at their creations?

As I explained here
http://puppylinux.info/topic/is-copyrig ... #post-2594

All this 'stuff' is based upon a misapplication of the English Licensing law - it was based upon 'performers on a stage' in licensed premises - pubs
The definition of a performer was 'a person or persons performing an entertainment in the form of singing or dancing and employed for the entertainment of patrons'
There never was a statute requiring a license to perform, in English law, so, in legal phraseology...the law has no legs...it is useless
The CPS Copyright Protection Service never were authorised by statute to enforce against publicans, so acted, as a private body, as if they were the Crown Prosecution Service, whose letters they bandied about for effect
Just BS all of it! and used simply for extorting monies from the entertainment profession, ostensibly to protect them from theft of income, whilst STEALING their income!....!

Americans have their laws and English their law and Swedish have their laws.

A total mess of it all :) Only future will tell what happens.

Not on topic: I am a reluctant Pessimist. Even when I fear the worst
then Reality rear it's ugly head and tell me I lacked the imagination to
really know how bad it really got in real life. My imagination could not
foresee how bad it did turn out in the end.

Sony Play Station? comes to my mind. They could load Linux on it
and play games that Sony did not get payed for. So now it is not possible
anymore.

I-pods? them could also have linux on them for a short while.
Not so anymore.

Netbooks and Laptops could have Linux on them.
For how long will that be allowed? Maybe a few year more
then they lock it out.

As the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) points out, SOPA for instance, contains a provision that would allow the government to target sites that are seen as providing advice or help on how to circumvent the law. Such an anti-circumvention provision would amount to unconstitutional prior restraint and would apply to U.S. sites as well.

Good point, nubc.

Here's a petition put out by the Democratic party (USA) to stop SOPA.

http://www.democrats.com/stop-the-corpo ... e-internet

Anyone seen a similar petition by the Repulican party (USA) or Libertarian party (USA)?
Please post here if you do. Thanks.

Called my Senators and Congressperson (or at least, their offices) about SOPA and PIPA. Tip: all you have to do is say your name and your zipcode and that you won't vote for them if they vote for this cr*p. Do it fast, cuz those folks don't exactly have time to sit & chat.

right....cause they're out playing golf or hunting. I hope you remembered to send a big check. That's what's important.

edit: that wasn't really fair....they also attend sports events when not watching them on TV. What they definitely do NOT do is read the bills that they legislate.

Note that I didn't say it would be super effective. That only happens in videogames ;)

What I was *thinking* in my post was... if the people on the Puppy forum, or at least those who live in the US, would look up and call up their representatives (however ineffective) then that might have at least the illusion of affecting the results. I intend to talk to my (few) friends and see if they are willing to do what I did.

Going through respectable means of changing society may not be as simple (or immediately effective) as less established means, but it does make it harder for stupid people to outlaw smarter behavior. Personally, I wouldn't mind putting my own political views out here, if not for (a) this forum being entirely the wrong place and (b) I'd probably get my head on a pike anyways -- I'm a bit of a radical (hint: I don't like capitalism very much). I will mention that even though I'm registered Independent, I'm probably the most Democrat leaning member of such group in at least my county if not my state...

Hi starhawk, I didn't mean to undermine your efforts with my cynicism ...I did what you advise myself and strongly support it. If enough people get fed up, eventually people upstairs get uneasy.

I was thinking, though, that better than shutting down Wikipedia, what might hurt government officials more directly would be all the porno sites going off-line for a day.

BTW/ I didn't think independents registered ??

SOPA - fighting back

We have a lot of copyright law experts in the community, which gives us a way to fight back.

Here is a step by step of the general idea:
  • 1. get the list of SOPA supporters
    2. go to their websites and find a place to post publicly
    3. post your opposition along with a copyright notice and a license to use your copyrighted material for <some_short_period_of_time>
    4. the second the license expires issue a SOPA takedown notice
    5. proceed with legal action
Can anyone expand on this?

Can one predict with some confidence that these people
are smart.

They think like this. Let us postpone on the practical things
so the emotional uproar cool down and then we make it run.

So now they get that we are at it and they postpone it
until we are not organized and our inner motivation are
caught up with other things then they make it go through?

SOPA revived

Well it looks like that man, the best, most kind-hearted, generous and honest of men, Mr. Rupert "Faux News" Murdoch, has taken it upon himself to resurrect SOPA.

Good thing the rumour about SOPA being dead was just a false alarm - phew - was actually worried there for a bit. God bless his soul.

Rupert Murdoch, Congress Revive SOPA

Wow, that didn't take long. If one can depend on Congress for anything, it is that awful legislation will keep being recycled until it passes.

In a way I almost hope SOPA passes. The ruling class has no idea what a shitstorm they are cooking up for themselves.

How true.
MPAA and RIAA are at the pinnacle of corporate greed.

Digressing slightly,
it seems that Google witheld delivery of mail from Gmail accounts for 24 hours.
I just received an email from a Gmail subscriber, that was posted 24 hours ago.

Not a problem for me.

I just wonder sometimes, where it is that Google actually stands.
