new version of mhwaveedit 1.4.21

I compiled the new version of mhwaveedit 1.4.21
on Puppy 4.31 and it works well on various Puppies
but I noticed that it needs libsamplerate to be installed in
Wary Puppy 5.1.1.53 (5.1.2 beta1) otherwise
it won't launch.
Here's how I compiled it.

Code: Select all

./configure --without-oss --with-default-mixerapp=retrovol --without-portaudio --without-sdl --without-oss --without-jack --without-check-casts --prefix=/usr

new version of gxmessage needed in Wary

I'd like a recent version of gxmessage installed in Wary, please.

I am tinkering with Zigbert's pclock program
and made a change to show a message on the screen.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=40710
Try this code in the terminal

Code: Select all

gxmessage -bg orange -title pClock -fn big -center -geometry 300x100 "éééééé éééé ééé " &
and in Wary it will look something like this

Image

whereas in Fluppy013 it will look like this

Image

The problem is with displaying accented characters.
Fluppy013 has a recent version of gxmessage as well as some other Puppies.
Just upgrade gxmessage and this problem will be fixed.

Wary 5.1.1.56 (5.1.2 beta2) released! See announcement:

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02285

For those on dialup, there are small delta files to upgrade from Wary 5.1.1 or 5.1.1.53.

5.1.1.56
Interesting! LiveCD initially gives : 'Mouse hasn't moved so maybe...' message: ignored and deleted. Give a man a chance to get there!
Waving souris over message box at top gives blank screen for 30(?)s. - too long; but patience is eventually rewarded.
No sign of fido - yet.

I did a frugal install of wary-5.1.1.56.iso.
Used xvesa to get to the desktop.
Used sns to setup wired internet connection.
Downloaded and installed nvidia-260.19.12-k2.6.32-w5.pet.
Fri 13 May 2011 Operating System: Wary Puppy-5.1.1.56 Linux 2.6.32

oem: NVIDIA product: MCP77 Board - mcp78pvo Chip Rev

X Server: Xorg Driver: nvidia
X.Org version: 1.3.0
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (524x292 millimeters)

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 9200/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 260.19.12

Athlon(tm) Dual Core Processor 4850e
Core 0: 2500 1: 2500 MHz

...the above also recorded at '/tmp/root/report-video-glx'.
# glxgears
5654 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1130.800 FPS
6676 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1335.200 FPS
6670 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1334.000 FPS

When I plug in a usb flash drive it doesn't mount, the mount utility
works though.

Edit:
Sound was low when playing music so I loaded alsamixer in the
terminal and adjusted the levels, then exited and saved the settings
with alsactl store.

After rebooting the wired internet connection is gone, I used the
network wizard this time and rebooted again, the network connection
was active.
I plugged in a usb flash drive and it showed up on the screen,
clicking on the icon mounted the drive.

What!!!!

When you move the mouse pointer to the message at top of screen, a welcome window pops up -- and does so virtually instantly.

Blank screen!!!! -- I have know idea what you are reporting about.

I read your comment that "When I plug in a usb flash drive it doesn't mount, the mount utility

You plug in a USB Flash drive, icon appears on desktop, click on icon, it opens. I have no idea why it should be failing for you.

...I hope you are not running as 'fido'.

Re sound level, the Retrovol mixer is nicer to use than alsamixer. The level gets automatically saved at shutdown.

I would like to warn, please stay away from running as 'fido' unless you want (and are able) to do developer work with it.

The business with the flash drive was before creating a save file, after plugging in a flash drive no icon would appear on the screen and I had to use the mount utility to mount the drive.
Magically? after creating the save file I plugged in a flash drive and things work as they should.

I created my save file as administrator, does it default to fido on first bootup before you've created a save file?

Nope - it's repeatable.
The welcome screen only appears after the blank screen clears to the correct image after ~30s.

Full install on Inspiron 700m.
I use i810 graphics.

All usb problems with any version since 098 have now disappeared.
No cursor freeze with usb mouse.
No extended modules loading time.

Very nice so far.

application_x-bittorrent NOT set to Transmission

Wary 5.1.1.53 and 5.1.1.56
application_x-bittorrent NOT set to Transmission

I downloaded the ubuntu torrent link:
ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent

When I clicked it, it did not open Transmission.
ok, I said to myself "what is the runtime action?"

This is what I found:
/root/Choices/MIME-types/application_x-bittorrent

That file it is referencing pctorrent:
#!/bin/bash

echo "$1" > $HOME/.pctorrent/torrfile
pctorrent &

1) searched for pctorr:
# find / -iname '*pctorr*'
And found nothing.

2) searched for transmiss:
# find / -iname '*transmiss*'
/usr/share/applications/transmission-gtk.desktop

This is the content of that file:
#! /bin/sh
exec transmission-gtk "$@"

3) changed application_x-bittorrent:
#!/bin/bash

## echo "$1" > $HOME/.pctorrent/torrfile
## pctorrent &

exec transmission-gtk "$@"

4) clicking the .torrent file now works.

Is this the right thing to do?

wary 5.1.1.56 rsync missing

Thought I would look at Snap2 snapshot backup but the dialog said rsync missing.

Went to console:
which rsync

Not here!

Went back to wary 5.1.1.53 and it is there!

Manual frugal install of 5.1.1.56 on my old P3 test box (everything is onboard Intel). Display (1024x768), sound and internet all working on initial boot.
Installed Mesa....working.
Looking good here as well.

PupRadio wouldn't launch......directory /root/.pupradio/ was missing.
Copied missing directory from Spup 120 to solve problem.

rsync is in devx

rsync is in devx

I did not have devx loaded in 5.1.1.56

So... Why does Snap2 snapshot backup depend on it?

Dear Barry,
1. The chooselocale script:
The locale and $LANG mismatch, If selected UTF-8.
Before Country setup:

Code: Select all

# echo $LANG
en_US
# locale -a
C
en_US
POSIX
After Country setup (with UTF-8 ) :

Code: Select all

# echo $LANG
en_US.UTF-8
# locale -a
C
en_US
en_US.utf8
POSIX
You could see, the $LANG is en_US.UTF-8 but the locale is en_US.utf8. I think the locale should en_US.UTF-8, same as the $LANG.

2. We need /usr/share/i18n/locales/iso14651_t1_pinyin , if missing it, the locale output directory will empty.

Code: Select all

# localedef -c -f UTF-8 -i zh_CN /usr/lib/locale/zh_CN.UTF-8
cannot open locale definition file `iso14651_t1_pinyin': No such file or directory
Please add the /usr/share/i18n/locales/iso14651_t1_pinyin to glibc_locales templates in woof and add this file to glibc_locales-2.10.1-w5.pet.
Thank you very much.

Boot off LIve CD
Select Xorg video
Wait 10 seconds
Get the "Your mouse has not moved" message
Select usb/ps2 and click OK (the mouse is USB)
Screen refreshes
Mouse pointer disappears!
A full reboot is required.

Boot off Live CD

Mouse works correctly

Thank you, rcrsn51. My reports here aren't always heeded nor believed because I am not one of the inner circle of coders. However, as a dispassionate scientific observer and reporter, I suspect I have as much experience and credibility as any, not least because experience accrues with age! So thanks my friend for confirming my earlier report on this occasion.
