Lupu-516 Beta 2 released DEC 22

The wired network, sound, and screen resolution all good on first boot.
I did a frugal install of 516 and used grub4dos.

I got the devx the new way and already had the kernel sources sfs on
the hard disk along with the newest nvidia driver for my card.
I installed the nvidia driver.

I think it's good that the files that are needed to install the latest nvidia
or ati drivers are easily available to the user if they want to use them.

I changed my desktop a bit :)

Looks like a nice wide button labeled GCC on your copy.

Yes, I know, because it was there in 5.15. The funny thing is I sent a screenprint of it, to someone who was missing it in 5.15

Lobster proofing Bert

Install Puppy any way you like and you will get the button, it won't show when running pfix=ram (PUPMODE=5  )

It will disappear once you have installed the devx too,,

Cheers

Hi yarddog,

Thanks for your report.

Installing PupClockset-1.2 (in Lupu-516 Beta 2) works well in my system, and I can't seem to duplicate the problem you now have. When you have time, could you do a fresh boot of the Lupu iso, then install PupClockset-1.2.

At this point, please run fbpanel refresh as the first step. Then launch PupClockset and change the clock format. If the fbpanel clock disappears, open /root/.config/fbpanel/default in geany. Please let me know if the file is empty.

Thanks

Successful frugal upgrade of a lupu-510 installation on an old Sony laptop with only 64MB ram. Everything appears to work, however slow. Of course it is faster than the original Windows XP.

Kudos and Merry Christmas,
Jim

Because of firewallstate we know if the firewall is on, but is it working?

I have used the Gibson Research Company Shield's Up over the years.

https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

I got a perfect Stealth score but my router is blocking everything so I couldn't say that it would be representative. I would be curious to know though.

followed steps above and it works
why is it necessary to run fbpanel refresh before making changes to clock format?

user needs to be aware of this additional step to make it work
I did not have problem with 1.2 in luci-246 - for me it first appeared in lupu 515

Sound, video, wifi all worked out of the box.

In PMirrorget I did notice the help close button is not working.

For some reason gnome-mplayer seems to be working better now. It used to be very jerky with my home movies, that was one of the reasons I preferred vlc. I'm sitll using the stock standard video driver too.

Can mplayer record video like vlc?

Are Midori and Dillo both required?

REading between the lines

Whichever you prefer, of course ;-)
Quickpet will now show you if more than one version is available. PPM has *all* the pets, but Quickpet has the one-click SFS's. ...
Reading this verbadim could mean that PPM only provides PETs for incorporation in the local OS while quickPet provides both PETs and SFSs.installation to the local OS
True? or not-true?

Thanks in advance

in order of happening:

Messages about "sns at bootup" and "sns icon on desktop" when frugal installing, but nothing actually there, maybe they need to be reworded to match what is actually there or further explanation of what is meant.

sfs of dev installed ok via qpet, but it was somewhat slow, even for a sat link.

JWM Config Manager > Tray Management > Tried to change the tray autohide to yes, got error box "change reversed" New Config Corrupt, Keeping Origonal. Same with trying to change.

Internet fonts are rather "rough"

otherwise not bad at all :D, especially considering this was the box that has given all the problems in the past to puppy versions. 9 points out of 10

scsijon
ps eudora (lucid version) works 8)

update:
just found I had to reboot computer rather than just restarting X after installing the Xorg high pet, nothing changed until then. Also had to obconfig and cancel in openbox to get the menu bar to have anything other than the menu start icon.
you've lost half a point.

I shall keep playing...

Wow 48 posts in 1st 12 hours...lot of activity

Deleted. These problems are WARY problems NOT problems with 516. I am burning 516 now.

Hi yarddog,

There was a slight problem in the initial configuration of fbpanel in Lupu-515 Beta, which required a reset by running fbpanel refresh before the first launch of the native PupClockset-1.2.

However, after installing PupClockset-1.2 in the new Lupu-516, the preliminary step of running fbpanel refresh before the first launch of PupClockset should not be necessary since the configuration parameters have been corrected in this release of Lupu, and fbpanel refresh is actually part of the pet install process. If we assume 'fbpanel refresh' ran successfully on your system when installing PupClockset-1.2, then I'm not sure why changing the clock format failed for you the first time. But the following points may be helpful.

Make sure the fields (entry boxes) in the 'Fbp Font' tab have valid input. Empty fields (or non-valid input) can result in failure of the clock display. Running a second (concurrent) instance of PupClockset can lead to empty fields in the 'Fbp Font' tab of the second instance. If you then set the clock from the second instance of PupClockset, the time display can fail.

Thanks again for your report.

Ha!

Wanna better system for your MacBook*TM.. then look no further!

Ihad all sorts of probs trying to setup mobile internet on wifey's macbook, so why not use Puppy as a DVD install? Of course the kernel does not support the HDD filesystem, that would require some hacking or special configuration I guess. (And is probably illegal  )

Installed firefox and the nvidia 260 driver.

19909 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3981.800 FPS

Running great! (will need to monitor fan and temp tho, you never know, and I wouldn't recommend this if you don't know how to check these)

Cheers

Let's say the PupClockset 1.1 is default and that 1.2 is experimental--that's why you can remove it--ha, ha, I never thought of it that way ;-)
