dbus enabled now?
This is working 100% on puppy 4.12 with the original libraries.
Actually I didn't try the included ones....hmmm

Goom and opengl ...another oddity...will be testing later..my desires are small and trippy man....

mike
The libraries are there...they just don't work :P
As for dbus...it doesn't come with puppy, and putting it on puppy might break the lot unless it is set up properly.

I am recompiling the entire thing on a clean puppy with just the required deps since it seems I have a bit of a mess on my previous VLC compiling puppy.

I will prevail!

Take your time, It took me days the first time comiling it, well bootstrap wasn't working right so I had to compile like 40+ packages and organize that, lol

Yep. Some of the patches cause the script to bail out:-(

Still I am making progress, so hopefully it won't be too long.

a bit of a mess
hey your first attempt was like 95% working.....hardly a mess.
And you are still compiling faster than us testers :D (well tis someones birthday here today)
anyway have you checked with ldd the dvd nav and read libs ?
was @ttuuxxx as testing on a different version.
and I noticed dbus enabled listed in the output of the last one I tested.
My ability to confuse others and myself is legendary...

Almost, lol I installed both packages on 2.14.1X
you were first missing libiconv.so.2
So I installed it from one of your previous test cases, and re ran the check deps and this time, lol better step back for this one.
These dependencies required by vlc-1.0.0-rc4-i686 package are missing:
File /usr/lib/vlc/demux/libts_plugin.so File:
libdvbpsi.so.5
File /usr/lib/vlc/demux/libmpc_plugin.so File:
libmpcdec.so.5

Happy Birthday mikebs other half then :-)
Have some skins! (see first post). They are the winning entries in a competition for skins for VLC.

sikpuppy well I finally am able to view a dvd :) it was missing the libcddb.so.2
it was really jittery playing then I changed it to opengl, and it played better.
also you forgot to include the font.
failed to load font file /usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeSerifBold.ttf

also get this error
[0x8341270] main input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called

It has a low success on actually getting a dvd to play, Takes about 10+ times before I can get it going once.
ttuuxxx
Keep trying your inching forward, step by step, lol hey its VLC no leaps and bounds, lol

Hmmz. No font on my computer either. But no problems playing DVDs either:P

What kernel comes with your puppy? I might have to download your pup to test on, I can't replicate errors that occur on a different setup :P

2.6.18.1 is the kernel in 2.14.1X, well also from 2.0-2.14 series I think, then it changed.

sikpuppy well I finally am able to view a dvd Smile it was missing the libcddb.so.2
well thats odd in itself..thats the cd database library.
I have previously used the dvdnav and read libs (other vlc) in a standard puppy 2.12.
I did have to type in /dev/hdd (or whatever) as /dev/dvd seems unrecognised even though it's set up with this vlc version

Daft questions..have you been using your vlc 0.8.6h on 2.14r...to play dvd
and do you delete the config before testing as there is a plugin cache?
[0x8341270] main input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called
sounds dodgy.

mike

ps a vlc 0.8.6c package I made and gave to someone refused to play dvd for him for ages.....dejavu

No mike I haven't even tried the 0.8.6h on 2.14.1X, Been too busy fixing this release to watch movies, lol just testing this version out.
butttttttttt I just compiled libcddb.so.2.2.3 and installed it, looks like the dvd is playing much better now :) The controls etc are working right.
Report back in a bit

ok I tested it, well it plays dvds, a small bit of image slowness, other than that not bad, I also tried 0.8.6h and it needed 3 packages from 4 series and played the dvd perfect on 2.14.1X. Glad for that :) I would like to see this version play as well as the 0.8.6h did.

Well, part of the problem is the entire UI of VLC has been overhauled (not for the better I think, it was far more responsive with the wXwidgets interface).

This from the VLC wesite:
Thanks to the continuous efforts made by the developers and the community, the new version of the award-winning VLC media player, numbered 1.0.0, is approaching the end of development.
The release will very likely happen next week.
Earlier today it said "The release will be early THIS week..." Grr. Oh well, I will use what I have learnt with the other 2 releases to make the next one a pearler :P

Yeah I never like qt much on puppy, the fonts always look strange and its never as responsive as gtk, wx, fox etc I wish they would bring back the gtk, vlc frontend, it ended in early days of vlc.
When I compiled the failed early 9 series of vlc you still could compile the wxgtk front end, it wasn't in the list when you did --configure --help,
try next time but you'll have to have the wxgtk installed of course :)
--enable-wx --disable-qt4 --enable-gtk
