I updated the iso to commit 4983. You can now run "shared library binaries" in Rox by clicking on them, thanks to wdlkmpx. :)

Puduan running well

G'day Sailor Enceladus,

This morning I downloaded your latest 'vanilla' Pup-Puduan and set up a manual Frugal (screenshot).

My sfs files all loaded with just one component (world-weather) not running. Gimp and Avidemux needed a missing lib or two which I added.
The browsers in my browsers.sfs all run with their profiles linked from my data partition.
Pets for my printer/scanner were good as was Trio's svg-wall-paper maker.

I like the larger font size with many of the dialog boxes.

My only aggravation is the unnecessary filling up of the 'Places' panel with all the partitions on the computer when using 'Open file'. (see screenshot)
How can I remove this clutter - all I want in 'Places' are my two data partitions, apart from /root and File System - the way it used to be? Are these 'bookmarks'(?) stored somewhere editable by me?

Thanks for your time and trouble,

David S.

Thanks davids45! wdlkmpx deserves most of the credit for the puduan-7 you see now, if it wasn't for wdlkmpx and 666philb, devuan puppy would still be a ~70MB iso where hardly anything worked out-of-the-box. I see what you mean about the Places thing, in Slacko it does not show these drives on the left but in this puduan it does. Not sure if that is baked into this version of Rox or a hack in one of the z scripts or something else but now I'm curious too. I'll let you know if I discover anything.

It looks like you really went to town trying out apps! That was really cool to see. Nice desktop screenshot. Image

The laptop suspend works better now, adrv fixes some more icons like in isomaster, and a few other little things. The Places mentioned by davids45 and jwm 2.3.x freezing desktop when clicking the menu can still happen though (on my laptop at least).

The packages is 3MB smaller mainly because the ascii team removed some more systemd stuff. :)

MPV , ffDiaporama

If my Puppy Stretch is yours, know that MPV works perfectly (mp3 mp4 and mpeg tested)
"Do not worry about the brand of the bike, pedals!" Whatever the Puppy, passenger wants results, something new. for his entertainment. MPV is OK.

ffDiaporama downloaded from Puduan PPM. Needs Qt libs, well joined to the main package. Terminal type ffDiaporama with D majuscule

Summer holidays, surf internet on holidays

July and august are holidays in France.. some addicts would like to bring Puppy Linux with Them, find a place where Puppies are accepted and where wifi spots are available
Kernel 4.1.38 Just upload driver 8192cu for wlan and your Dongle is recognized by Puppy stretch. No need of rcrsn51 pets.
Hum personally i stop computer on holidays, to retrieve personal contact with people.
I am not sure at all i am using sailor enceladus strecth.. His kernel would be 4.4.74.
There are so many versions..

downloaded another Puppy stretch from pCloud.

downloaded another Puppy stretch from pCloud. This one I am sure that sailor enceladus is the owner. Kernel 4.4.74 .
Released 26jun2017.

Light loaded as browser
( what would you do with Dillo ? )
PPM updated, and fotoxx downloaded successfully from repositories Debian.
Outdoor with my laptop and my dongle will be OK, included driver 8192cu recognize it without installing a pet.
Huge impact : your laptop is really serviceable for what you bought it : bring it with you.
Sure wireless inside home is useful when you want to change place, but our Puppy devs stay stuck to the wall socket with ethernet cable, usually.
taking advantage of wireless is to work or surf outdoor, in summertime.

To be repaired by help desk :
mpv_0.23.0-2+b2|mpv|0.23.0-2+b2||Multimedia;video|2242K does not launch.
(Repaired by download from ppm).

PPM is Devuan not Debian

ok puduan is not Puppy stretch because PPM is Devuan no Debian
What a difference that makes ? or :!:
But this puduan is really charming.. Looks like Puppy 431..
packages ascii are translated when dwonloaded..
What apps to downloaded to change the menu.. for our entertainment ? No guide somewhere.. hazardous coice, because names does no mean anything, often.. In Debian (Devuan) forum perhaps.
What a surprise to see my school girl as Splash when using grub4Dosconfig (terminal) ... how that can be ?? it's a wallpaper from PC astuces..

Thanks Pelo. I uploaded a new build at commit 5495 to the first link. To make things simpler I just put all the adrv fixes into the puppy.sfs this time, hopefully that fixes your mpv issue (guessing it was the %U thing included in vanilla build), also added mpv and pmusic to OpenWith, filled in a few of the missing libraries to the spec (6MB! perhaps some of those missing libs were not included intentionally for size reasons... heh), replaced the browser with the deb firefox-esr, and tried using the deb version of netpbm (hoping it patched the screeny bug but it looks like that xwdtopnm version is still older). There is now an option in Setup called Menu Manager that gives you a simple way to toggle off menu items too. Gotta run so I'll test it out more later. :)

CUPS - printing filter fails

Posted: Fri 11 Aug 2017, 02:06

G'day,

Tried the 5459 puduan (frugal) and as before with this family of Pups, printing fails 'out-of-the-box'.

Maybe I'm the only one still using paper for stuff.

The problem is a filter-fail, which I'm told is in the gs-ghostscript version area. I've been sent a fix somewhere that I'll have to dig out again to fix this Pup like the others.

Any chance this could be fixed in the 'in-the-box' Pup?

Other than this, it's another very nice Pup and does everything else I've wanted.

Gutenprint included in all ISOs

perhaps heretic Idea, IMO no need of Gutenprint included in all ISOs. Most of us don't print anyhing because
A they have no printer
B printing does not work with Puppy
C if office stuff has been deleted by the Puppy builder, what do you want to print ? Songs..
Ah scripts..

About Printers, 3D, bluetooth, that is useless for most people, i would be better SFS to load when people need to use these equipment.
There is none application , why to include Libs for no usage..
My purpose was to feed-back about Abiword.. Latest version is made available by my Puduan.. Who can do as well, right now ?
Devuan, what is that ? PPM downloads debian stuff.. But i really don't care, if that works on my computer.
