Saluki
hi jemima
i was given an 'acer aspire one 722 64bit, with amd radion hd 6290 graphics' netbook as a present, and have been trying to get saluki running on it.
saluki boots to the correct resolution, and i go through the set up, location/time etc, but when it restarts x the screen then gets shifted (so the right and left screen edge appears in the centre!) if i try to ctrl/alt/backspace back to prompt, the screen gradually turns to white, and i can't do anything.
just wondering if you had any ideas about why this is happening.
dpup, racy, precise, slacko, fatdog & lighthouse all exhibit the same turning to white problem. The only puppy that sort of works is lucid, but that doesn't have the correct resolution.
cheers

I believe you will need ati proprietary driver. Have you tried with pfix=nox and choose vesa driver. And then with it compile the ati proprietary driver...which will probably still need the patching for kernel fglrx module to compile.
I have that problem with lucid puppy if I switch to ati graphics of my dual graphics.... ati hd 5650. It works only with ati proprietary driver in lucid puppies.
The console state behavior was same for me....

cheers pemasu.... unfortunately the driver didn't compile, it had errors. i'll give your solution a go in a few of the other puppies i tried

Anyone having problems with Partition Tables
As I am not certain to which Puppy, or even to any Puppy, the problems I've experienced pertain, I discussed them in detail in the User's thread.

This is just to call attention to that discussion.

Hi there
Can someone tell me which kernel the latest iso is using ie *.021?
I saw that it was based on Wary 5.2, and that is an older kernel compared to Lucid 528.
Also I would like to know how to update the kernel if possible and where I can find the necessary files?
Finally, having tried this out yesterday for thte first time I was impressed and would like to have a go at compiling some applications for this build.
Is the " --prefix=$HOME " to become
" --prefix=/usr "
or the default
" --prefix=/usr/local/ "
Thanks in advance!

thank shevan and pemasu
i followed the directions from shevans link, but still no joy, after applying the patch and choosing the fglrx driver , x won't start. start x any other way results in the same behavior as before.
thanks anyway

maybe something went wrong during compilation steps. doublecheck that fglrx compiles succesfull - commands should give output666philb wrote:thank shevan and pemasu

or maybe you hardware still need some tuning in xorg.conf
anyway the logs should give some more ideas
just keep trying

hi shevan
it seems to patch succesfully, although there's a few lines after doing ./make.sh
still it finishes patching and aticonfig --initial seems to work
x just won't start after choosing the fglrx driver, even after rebooting
