Serious Sam, the second encounter

#30 Post by Hesse James »

I recently found my CDs of Serious Sam: one of my games, we played very often in a group. Unfortunately it cannot be run on modern computers under Windows10. Well, Croteam released the source code of the game some years before. Sebastien Turban (PtitSeb) reworked the code, so that it can be compiled and run natively under Linux. I compiled it under Bionicpup64 and I am astonished how well it runs. One drawback: I am not allowed the share the game content. That means to play the game, you would need the original game content files (these are the 0 byte files which end up with .cro that would need to be replace).

Unreal Tournament 2004

#31 Post by Hesse James »

What we played most is Unreal Tournament. Of course, not the 2004 edition but the original one from 1999. But for that version I did not yet figure out how to run it natively under Linux 64 bit (for 32 bit this might it be possible and I am working on it). At first we have to be satisfied with the UT2004 version, which was very impressive these days and requested a lot of computer performance... of course nothing compared to a modern action game.

UnrealTournament für Puppy Linux

#33 Post by Hesse James »

Well, it took some time to figure out, how to build a stable version. But this one works on my computer. One drawback: sound might be an issue on some computers. On my standard-computer, sound works out of the box. No complains. On my wife's computer, sound doesn't work. I tried many things using aoss but I failed. Maybe I will start another trials in summer.
Unreal Tournament is available only as a 32bit application. The 32 bit libs of Bionic are used, but they are included. It is not necessary to load the 32 bit compatibility sfs.
I also included the bonus pack maps. It uses the "Game of the Year" content as a basis which can downloaded freely in the internet. That's the reason why I assume that I can ship it with the game content, different to other packages. So have fun.
Now I have to concentrate on Unreal 1 (Gold edition).

Hello
The is Unreal 1 Gold Community Patch V2.27i (including Return to NaPali). It contains a Linux 32 bit binary which can be executed in Bionic64. The corresponding 32 bit libs are included. The game content is not on board, which means, you should copy the maps from the CD into the maps directory.

Have fun.
