Is this some kind of stupid joke or has someone lost the plot??Slacko 531 is the most up to date Puppy release and deserves it's rightful place in the Projects section.

so, I'd say it is mainstream official puppy....but ask 01micko/Barry, if in doubt

It's Official in the wiki

I'd have thought Puppy Projects as it, and bugfix thread's rightful place

Hmm. Well, Barry didn't start the Slacko thread in the Bugs section so I didn't think he had anything to do with it.

If Slacko is the flagship of the Puppy litter (to mash a few metaphors together) then it isn't exactly a "project" any more, is it?

Well.. I started the thread originally in "Announcements" because that's exactly what it was. If you read the original post you get the gist of that and I directed people to post bugs in the slacko bug thread.

I see 2 possibilities.

1) put it back in the "announcement" forum (deleting the last 10 or so posts)
or,
2) put it in the "next puppy development" sub-forum and add "final" somewhere in the title. (one disadvantage.. may cause even more confusion!)

Cheers

Okay, it's back in Announcements. The reason I moved it from there in the first place was it grew so large it didn't look like an announcement any more. When you make an announcement, maybe you could include a link to the discussion thread, then ask me to lock the Announcement thread so people don't post there. It just doesn't look sanitary.

How important is it to everyone that a thread be in the right place in the forum?

I think maybe it's more important that the originator of a thread - particularly a long and active one - is consulted before the thread is moved......

Hi, sorry to change subject

I'm particularly interested in the audio improvements in Slacko over Lucid
Quote:
Audio improvements, eg. audio and recording in mhwavedit working

apart from newer kernel, what other sound improvement are there?

I had a strange experience with Slacko 5.3.1 recently. I had a persistent ghost screen image of the word Slacko from one of the desktop backgrounds that showed through in SeaMonkey and also when rebooting to other versions of Puppy. I had left the PC on overnight with the screen blanker disabled and was concerned about "burn-in" of the image to my LCD monitor.
The image seems to be gone now. But to be sure, I will have to try booting Slacko again and firing up SeaMonkey to see if a ghost image still shows through.

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400, can you tell me what driver version is in Lupu 5.2.5? 96.43.x?

by don570
Note to esrom02:

I have that graphics card and it is compatible
with all Puppies, so if you're having problems don't
blame the graphics card.

Lupu525 uses the nv graphics driver for this card.
It's the built-in driver.

If you want a bit more speed you can easily upgrade
to NVIDIA-96.43.16_lupu500-k2.6.33.2.pet

available at this site

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ges-lucid/

but this driver won't work with any other Puppy variant
other than Lupu.

Maybe this should be on a 5.3.3 thread, but thought I'd share anyways.

I have Compiz running on my computer with these specs:

USB flash drive
Slacko 5.3.3 pae Frugal install
HP Desktop
AMD Athlon X 2 7550 2.5 GHz
nVidia GeForce 9100 chip GPU
8 GB RAM
750 HD

I installed an nVidia driver pet from the Slacko PPM (nvidia-2.95.20-k3.1.10-slacko_paeA-s). Then, I ran the Compiz helper pet, and loaded the Compiz sfs. Not sure what I did to get it working exactly. I restarted X, and I can't remember if I typed xwin or xwin dummy to get it to work. I think something strange happened where the upper scroll bar of the windows got cut off (I had the same problem with installing Compiz on Saluki), and I may have had to restart X, rerun xorgwizard, probe, select resolution, and typed either xwin or xwin dummy. Anyways, I finally got it to work, and made multiple backup copies of the savefile in case I screw up something in the future!
