Jim3630. Yeah. I am happy that I got intel driver even working. You cant get everything,lol.... But...It looks like new broadcom driver works for you. Your sysinfo didnt show anything fatal. Intel driver has been loaded for you etc...
I have included Planner. Thanks to you and your remind of it.

pemasu thank you for another great looking pup.

the most noticeable effect is a square looking laptop display when a HDMI external monitor is connected.

assume related to the gears display issue. racy and 528 are the only pups that show the laptop monitor fully
extended to the margins of it's display when a HDMI external monitor is connected. it is just a cosmetics effect.

I can't connect to internet with usb_modemswitch, pupdial in squeezed_5.X.10 smp. With squeezed_5.X.9 smp, I connect good to internet

Initializing modem. Please wait...

Pupdial messages:

--> Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: No such file or directory

Please recompile module usbserial.ko.
Thankyou

Hi pemasu

Many thanks for your update which looks really good apart from the "common to all new k3.x puppies" - "b43 not recognized problem".

Had to copy the b43 directory from /lib/modules to /lib/firmware and force loading of b43 module (I put modprobe b43 into rc.local) to get my wifi to work.

Really glad to see Frisbee is still there too.

Cheers

Peebee. Sorry, there is no remedy found to the b43 problem with 3.X kernels. You and I have kept Barry informed and the fix is still to be found. Manual loading and firmware copying...rc.local for modprobe is the way atm.

Frugal installation of 5.x.10.2 on ext4 partition with a 4fs save file. Everything tested is working great including the latest Nvidia driver.

Cheers,

Code: Select all

# modprobe usbserial
# lsmod | grep usbserial
usbserial 19107 0
Recompile per se does not seem to be the solution. I can load the usbserial all right.

Thanks Jim1911. You have had time to download devx sfs, kernel source sfs, compile the driver and test it. Great !!!
There cant be very fundamental broken in kernel if nvidia driver compiles and installs. Good news.

That`s it for this day. Time to get sleep and back in Puppy after work day.
Cheers.

UMPlayer

#270 Post by sszindian »

UMPlayer-qt4-dpup.sfs (loaded with Sfs Apps Loader from Smoky01 Site) won't load selected youtube videos into the main player from the 2nd popup window. Right click on any video in list (2nd popup window) only allows play 'at' youtube and opens another browser window to perform that function.

Thank you of the reports. Quick comment before going to the work.
Shinobar. Your reports are good news. As you have noticed, I have used aufs not unionfs. Petget from frugal usb installation has been problematic with Barrys earlier 3.X kernel so your reports shed us light with aufs. Nothing wrong with unionfs, might be better in many situations. I just couldnt get it work right.

About Umplayer. That needs investigation. I havent loaded it for awhile. I would like to compile it in dpup if it does not work. I just would need the same Qt development environment that stu90 has used. If stu90 reads this, please point me to the devel with link.

Umplayer youtube > play video didnt work. So...I used my compiled Qt-4.8.0 libs, compiled Umplayer-0.9.7 and packaged it as pet and sfs.
My Qt needs reboot after installation since it has libs in /opt/qt4 and that is why the /etc/profile.d/ has files to point to that location.
Barry Kauler uses same technique (I just borrowed his way to install them)

Umplayer-0.9.7 sfs: http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/pet_pack ... 0-dpup.sfs

Oh Oh.. posted b43 problem in wrong place. It belongs here. B43 wifi module had to be loaded to lib/firmware by hand and then the module b43 pcmcia loaded via the network manager to get working. Kernel issue I believe.
Also please update pmusic to latest as this version has bugs.

Wifi survives re-boot :)

DaveS. I thought so :D
Yeah. It is kernel and b43 issue. The solution has eluded us. Changing firmware location, updating firmware has not helped. Barry posted that there is nothing we can do. Posting about the problem to the b43 developers would be next step if somebody does not find the fix. Sorry. At least manual loading, copying firmware and placing modprobe b43 to the rc.local or use bootmanager > add new module is manual solution.
Of course creating b43 fix pet to do that can be done.

DaveS. Thanks.
In fact...abiword-2.8.6-gnumeric-1.10.17-goffice-0.8.17-dpup.sfs should not miss anything. It has older, stable abiword but newer gnumeric. Iguleders compile.
My previously uploaded abiword-2.9.0-gnumeric-1.10.13-goffice-0.8.12-dpup.sfs misses libgsf and it probably needs those libgsf-gnome libs also.
I will repackage that combo. Thanks.
