@Sylvander: Does your system have any old Lupu 528 components, like savefiles, hanging around? They could be confusing this new Lupu's search procedure.

Burniso2cd appears to automatically choose/set the burn speed.

That's one of the numerous problems with burniso2cd. It doesn't have an "auto" speed setting that lets the burner pick its own preferred speed.

No.
I just now searched the only mounted partition for any files with "lupu" in their name.
The only item found is the empty 04-lupu folder I made in preparation for holding the "lupusave.?fs" file I intended to make, but didn't get that far.
Before making that folder I had checked that there were no existing "lupu" folders or files.
So I expect there should have been no problem of that kind.
Not unless "luci" files would cause a problem.

Have you tried to boot using option puppy pfix=ram?

Driver support for your TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH222BB DVD drive could be the issue.
Did a Google search. Seems to be a really hard thing to find out any info about Linux drivers for it.

Have you tried to install to a USB flash drive and boot with it?

Mounted all partitions, and searched them.
Result was the same as before = only found the 1 empty folder.

a. Using ROX, I couldn't mount the ISO file [stored on an external HDD] whilst working within Precise-5.6.1, so copied the files from the CD-RW to the FAT32 partition [with boot flag set] on an 8GB Flash Drive, and installed grub4dos.
b. It booted just fine, and is looking good [I'm typing this from it], EXCEPT...
c. There are no icons on the desktop for the partition-file-systems on my SATA->[internal HDD, or optical drive].
The Flash Drive partition shows up [as sda1].
Plus...
The partitions [3] on my USB connected external HDD's [2] show up OK.

That probably explains why you can't boot off the CD. This Lupu is missing the drivers needed to see these devices.

[Edit] However, this Lupu can find my SATA hard drive OK.

I have uploaded (actually, still loading) a disk image set dated 20131012 that includes an image for Three-headed-dog.

It contains the updated versions of pburn and getflash and a current pnethood. It also has the rewritten version of drive detection, taken from precise 5.7.1. The details are at the link above.

The new drive-detection code puts us at the bleeding edge for that function, although it handles my optical and flash drives the same as before. Please watch for any changes in behavior regarding the drives and their icons. I don't know whether the rewrite will help Sylvander with his drives.

Note that the 3HD disk image looks the same as luci001-005 as to its background and icon layout.

I am running out of things to add, so please call my attention to any updated packages that should be added. Before releasing 5.2.8.6 to playdayz for general use, I plan to update the libreoffice SFS file with the version due within 2 weeks. I want to then update the libre and plus images with the final version, 4.1.6 early next year. Of course, anyone can then substitute the 4.2 versions as needed, using the "get libreoffice" function included in lupu 5.2.8.6.

Testing Three-Headed-Dog (2013-Oct-12)

The updated drivers of kernel 2.6.37.6 in 3HD work great on this Sandybridge desktop, including the Intel audio.

However, the Intel audio (C200 Series - rev 05) is not recognized in the standard Lucid 5.2.8.6 with kernel 2.6.33.2.

I think it will soon be clear that 3HD version of Lucid 5.2.8.6 will work better on really new hardware, to a point, and standard Lucid 5.2.8.6 will be OK on older hardware.
Maybe Playdayz knows what the support difference is between kernel 2.6.37.6 and kernel 2.6.33.2.

The big driving force, for kernel changes, is support for new hardware, as it comes out.

Using "lupu3hd-5.2.8.6-20131012.iso":
So how come the name luci_001.sfs?
1. Made a CD-RW disk and attempted to boot this.
The boot attempt FAILED!

2. Made a bootable Flash Drive [Frugal install], and installed grub4dos.
This BOOTS OK.
Made a lucisave file on the Flash Drive, and it's in use OK.
a. The 5 partitions on my SATA internal HDD show up OK on the desktop.
b. The Optical disk [CD-RW] in the drive does NOT show up.
Unable to mount it; doesn't show in Pmount.

Using Lupu 3HD 5.2.8.6 20131012

It finds and configures my new Netgear N150 USB wireless adapter with no problems.

One problem with 3HD version is video drivers.
In Quickpet drivers tab
Run check your graphics card.
It identifies my Nvidia card OK
Gives Option button to download Nvidia driver
There are no drivers available for download.

I know this is an issue with no driver pets made for the kernel in 3HD on the download repository.
Drivers are there for standard Lucid 5.2.8.6 compiled for its kernel.

Thanks all. Unfortunately not the answer I was hoping to get. I've just bought a new laptop with a 4th gen haswell cpu, Windows 8, and UEFI "BIOS".

I was able to boot Knoppix 7.2 from a usbflash installation, using an external card reader on a USB4.0 port. But Knoppix doesn't see anything in the internal card reader.

I haven't found a way to boot puppy 5.2.8-05 at all on it.

Has anyone succeeded in booting Puppy on a UEFI system?

That's me for one.
My BIOS is UEFI, and I can boot 9 Puppies at this time.
There's a setting in the BIOS that needs to be set.
Can't remember what it is right now, but if you want I can go into my BIOS and see if I can spot it.
I think my BIOS had it already set by the shop, because they sold it without an operating system, so it could be used with Linux.
I told them I wanted to use Puppy on it.
The guy who owned the shop knew of Puppy and approved of me using it [he likes Linux].

No need. That list is fairly self-explanatory.

With the disclaimer that I build my own computers,which means I have UEFI but not the fabulous "secure boot", I've had no trouble booting Puppy or other distros with either k-2.6.x or k-3.x.x.
I set the bios to "legacy mode"(individual hardware may and probably will differ in the terminology) and distro hop away.Actually can't recall anything that hasn't booted.

To differentiate between the "official" Lucid releases and the "unofficial" Three Headed Dog releases. Also,no problem of either version attempting to use the save file of the other.

I think you need to disable the secure boot feature of UEFI bios

Here is an example of how to do it. May work slightly different for your computer, but the general method is explained.
