Thanks for the answer.

And Is there Quickpet in this version of LXPup?
If Quickpet is there then I'll try this version too.

Glad I could help you ! :)
Thank you for trying Lxpup, Do not hesitate to try other puppies, because we are lucky to have a good productive community, and there are plenty of brilliant puplet.

To answer about Quixkpet. There are two versions of Lxpup.
Precise and Slacko. Today, I released Precise version which hasn't QuickPet.
QuickPet is present in Slacko and Lupu but not in Precise. :?

If you want Quickpet, keep the Slacko version.

Cheers !

hi Jejy69,

thanks for your excellent puppy!
it sets the bar higher for mainstream puppy in the looks department :D

i'm posting from netbook running your brand new LXPup Precise off a multiboot pendrive that also has Carolina and Lucid Puppy.

Question 1
Panel
distances between the panel items from default puppy (network, battery, volume, partition view) are too wide on my netbook.
is there a way to adjust the distances?
is it also possible to change those default puppy icons to match the better-looking gtk icons?

Question 2
Package Manager
ubuntu-precise-main is checked by default not puppy-precise.
is that right?

Question 3
Desktop right-click
i experimented with showing the menus on desktop right-click, but found that it's not fully supported in LXPup.
i now want to set the behaviour of desktop right-click to LXPup default but could not find a way to do so.
are you able to advise how?
EDIT:
my bad. i should have searched harder.
found it in Menu, Desktop Settings, Desktop Preferences Advanced tab

Question 4
PupShutdown manager
it's way too crowded, but that's just me.
have you considered alternate shutdown script?
Carolina's comes to mind.

Comment
Welcome Wizard look
the 'close' button (top right)and 'help' button for 'Saving a session' are not the same size as the buttons for 'Internet connection' and 'Setup you pup'.
i remember that in Lucid, all four buttons are one size only, but i could be wrong.

all the best for you and LXPup!

Yes.

@Jely69 is sharing the 2 different tools for system startup from initial ISO.
They are Shinobar's Personalize Settings found in many PUPs and Barry's Personalize Settings found in many other PUPs.

Shinobar's has several years advancement in its use, while Barry's is rather new and has gone thru several iterations over the past months.

Barry's version, in Its present state has a bug which I have reported, but has not been fixed. Its in the network logic of that tool.

Shinobar's version exhibits no such bug allowing the user to set system needs, ALL, IN A SINGLE SCREEN AT BOOT TIME. No secondary screen are necessary in its use.

Its a little confusing as they look similar to us users.

Here to help

Really, really good!

I have been using slacko lx with mate / xfce4 / lxde on my Acer one happy2 netbook (model no : ze6)

I cannot stop praising the slacko_lx.

I am not an expert and i don't know how it fares in terms of ram usage, cpu usage, temperature, battery drain.

But i am amazed at how well it runs without giving much problems and to enjoy the benefits of mate / xfce / lxde.

If it turns out that the battery management is equally good / or better compared to others, this will be my most used puppy linux.

Merci beacoup and thanks again Jejy69 !!!

In the forum, since not much bugs to report, the post will not appear on top. But if i could I would vote for the post on the multi desktop puppy to be how to say pinned so that it will appear on top of the thread because it does stand out as an exciting way to run puppy.

I have just downloaded the new precise_lx (based on BK precise 5.4) and i am going to test it.

Hello !

Sorry I'm late. :)

@yerc1
Thanks you to try LXpup, I hope to best meet your questions. :)

Question 1 : You must go in Lxpanel preference, and reduce the size of icons, and space will be subdued.

Question 2 : I think this is the Barry Kauler's choice. I do not know how to change the default repository unfortunately. :?

Question 3 : Glad you could find. :D

Question 4 : I must admit that I do not know any other, but if you have something to offer as a replacement, I will be delighted to integrate it.
The default LXDE session manager needs Hal, which is fastidious to get it working.

Comment : Gcmartin responded very well, he gave a clear explanation that I did not know about the program. :)

@Hi smil99 :

I'm working on it. But I have many more problems.
Cinnamon to Slacko going well, but Precise, I encounter difficulties ...
For Precise, I do not promise anything, I do my best. Cinnamon exists absolutely certain for Slacko.
I'll let you know.

@Hello pchan !
I am not an expert and i don't know how it fares in terms of ram usage, cpu usage, temperature, battery drain.
Do not worry! Of the moment there was no smoke comes out of the computer, all is well!

I'm glad it pleases, thank you!

You are really motivating ! :D

Now, I'll try to have Cinnamon working !

non-PAE Lxpup?

Having many older computers, I yearn to try Lxde in Lxpup, but alas, most of my laptops are nice solid Pentium M machines that do not support PAE. Any chance of non-PAE support? I know you are very busy from the rate of advancement of Lxpup but any help for us oldsters would be much appreciated.

Hi Marv ! :)

At the beginning, I wanted to rely on a non-PAE Puppy, but Precise does not exist in this version. Is it possible to get a version with the normal kernel? If so, I am committed to an ISO without PAE. :)
I do not know much in the field of kernel. :?

Jejy69 wrote:Okay, Wine works but is not set as the default action in Pcmanfm.

To install/use a windows program, simply click on it, go to 'Custom command line' type 'wine', and 'ok'.
The file will be launched with wine. :)
OK. This works but how can I set this to be its default action?
It keeps asking again.

Thanks.

Mate 1.4 feedback

Posted: Thu 25 Oct 2012, 17:07
by peebee
Hi Jejy69

Been trying Precise Lxpup with the Mate 1.4 desktop.

My first problem is that the corruption of entered passwords that we saw some time ago has reappeared:

Using the following test code:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
MSG="Please enter the Password."
Xdialog --title "Frisbee" --password --inputbox "$MSG" 0 0 > /opt/Pwireless-entry 2>&1
and entering - 12345678
the result is:
/usr/share/themes/Shiki-Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:126: Murrine configuration option "gradients" is no longer supported and will be ignored.
12345678
This works as expected on vanilla Precise.

The second problem is using the Server Connection facilities in Places.

The good news is that the full list of expected protocols is now displayed however when a connection is setup the attached error messages appear when the remote connection is opened.

The 2 types tested are ftp and samba. In the case of ftp a working connection is established despite the error. For samba, no connection is made but that might be configuration errors on my part.

On a lesser note - there don't seem to be any backgrounds available for the Mate 1.4 desktop??

Really, really want this to work as well as the previous Precise Mate - especially the network handling which is so much better than "traditional" puppies....please say if I can supply any more info.

Thanks
peebee

@mufeed2012 : At the bottom of this post, I made a package for you, it fixes the default action for .exe applications.

Hi Peebee !

Thanks, really, I think I hate this bug !
There is a fix at the bottom of this post.
You are right about the GTK problem, I commented the line 126 of each theme, and now frisbee works. Could you confirm please, to be sure ?
On a lesser note - there don't seem to be any backgrounds available for the Mate 1.4 desktop??

No :? , I wanted to reduce the maximum packet size. Do you think I should add?

I'm rebuilding the package, for now FTP and others protocols are working, I use them actually. I upload package when I finished.
Promise ! FTP will works ! :D

Ah Peebee, FTP works !
To use FTP and others.

1/ Right click on a either folder.
2/'Open with other application'
3/'Use a custom command'
4/Type 'caja'
5/Set as default
6/Ok
7/Works ! 'Places' in menu are fixed too. :D

Confirmed - your patch solves my gtk+ bug - many thanks

The backgrounds you had in Precise Mate were nice - I think a few would be good....

I'm not quite sure what I need to right click on for the connection open error - which only seems to occur on opens from the Places menu - from within the file manager they work OK.

Thanks for all your hard work on this - much appreciated - and a great addition to Precise.

Cheers
