Ah well.
Here here - I too will miss 3.4 and was mourning it's loss to the community also. Sadly I'm not yet a dev, so I can't take over the baton. If I was able and could pick ANY Puplet - that would be THE ONE.

Puppy forever. ;-)

:D Hello,
I enjoy and use my 3.3 frugal a lot...
Very nice work it is, if a bit self indulged..
Good attention to detail, and quite thorough..
But I`ll stick with 3.3 where it still says Puppy here and there...
Although I even considered it, I doubt anyone will "pick it up"..
l0wt3ch would probably throw a fit...
But who knows....
Maybe if continued as "Puppy Studio..(no affiliation with Studio4)"
It aint like he didnt build upon the work of others as well...
Its the Linux way...

l0wt3ch has released 4.0 - why don't you use that?

Because it costs money. Right.

Barry once said the forum users had a "welfare mentality". As usual, he was correct.

:D Hello,
No offense to 4.0 but the non repackaged as proprietary 3.3 works fine..
Its not a "welfare mentality"..(no offense to BK).. Its called "Open Source"..
I would never charge $50 for something I built upon BK`s work without sending Barry and the version developers $25...

Bet lowt3ch aint...

I aint saying he`s doing wrong, necessarily...
Just not "right" for me....

Plus he got really vile at the end towards Puppy, the forum, the dev`s, and damn near anyone he got near...I believe I recall him saying someone wasnt "worthy" of using his work!!
After he attacked the creator of Pupitup, I wrote him off...
Too bad...as he did good work...

Sorry puppyluvr, I was talking to mikeybaby72.

l0wt3ch has said "If I get rich, then Barry's going to get a bunch of money." And he never said that any individual wasn't worthy of using his distro - he said the forum wasn't worthy because it kicked him off for editing (deleting) his own posts. Which was unusual, since l0wt3ch wasn't violating the forum guidelines. Apparently he felt Flash was being heavy-handed, and you have to admit, that's pretty weird.

Flash said he banned l0wt3ch to stop him from deleting any more posts, but if l0wt3ch's posts were so valuable that he wasn't allowed to delete them, then why ban the guy who made the posts? Makes no sense.

Like somebody said, it sounds like the appropriate thing to do there would be to send a PM.

:D Hello,
Agreed....but his attack on eztuxer was uncalled for...
He called people stupid, and shot down everyone in sight...
I was ON HIS SIDE until he got vile...
None of it made sense...
His work WAS good...but not that good...

What did he say about Eztuxer? If I remember correctly, he criticized Eztuxer's work, not Eztuxer himself, because l0wt3ch thought his "friend" Eztuxer was dissing Puppy Studio. l0wt3ch was under attack by like fifty people at the time, can't really blame him for getting that one wrong.

Why did Flash start a flame thread for people to "vent" in the first place? How unprofessional is that? Some people on here have likened this thread to something from "Lord of the Flies"; some threatened to leave the forum, and some did.

You do not remember correctly...
l0wt3ch was under attack by like fifty people
Again, incorrect...
Not saying he was always unjustified, but....
He was responded to by many, in response, to his "Delusions of Grandeur" and insults concerning the quality of all that wasnt Puppy Studio..
Perhaps his deleting of his posts was a realization of his own attitude, and in removing them, made everyone else appear to be "the bad guy"

As for this thread...I agree...Should not be...
Perhaps an attempt to instigate a continuance of a Puppy Multimedia Studio Concept..
IDK..But it garnered 17 pages of responses...
Without his input, they have been mostly all positive towards his work...
Go figure....
Apparently, there were things yet unsaid....
Maybe even he has things unsaid???

Well, from some of what I've seen here, it's not entirely clear that Lowtech is the one marketing this product (4.0). If true, then someone else is trying to hawk Lowtech's wares, claiming it as their own -- that just ain't right...

If it is Lowtech, he should make it clear that he is running the sales -- and I will gladly wish him the best on it.

Well he did say "you suck" to Eztuxer, but that was in reference to his work: he said something like, "Well if it's so damn easy, then where's your realtime kernel? Oh ya, you don't have one, because you suck."

And maybe not fifty people. But still, a lot... I've never seen such an outpouring of hate on a moderated Internet forum.

@RetroTechGuy - l0wt3ch told abushcrafter that it was him in the other thread:

Are you l0wt3ch? If so, I wish you'd come out and explain yourself

I supported him[/you?], too, and didn't see the goings on that led to the ban

This is a fairly tolerant forum, but respect is a 2 way thing.....you have to give some to get some, in my experience

I really liked the work, but not the childishness/attitude, which spoiled it

If you aren't but know him/have contact, wish him well from me

Aitch :)

No realtime kernel, doesn't even load into RAM. = piece of shit.
According to the docs at the jack website you do not need an rt kernel to get realtime scheduling on a current kernel:
http://www.jackaudio.org/realtime_vs_realtime_kernel

I have born this out by running jack in rt mode on lucid puppy.

(OT: I prefer puppy, but AV linux is a great piece of software just different priorities to puppy, such as including a complete build environment. If you want to use puppy look at what they have done well & learn & bring it back to puppy, don't just dismiss it out of hand for not being puppy)

AVLinux does it boot frugally the way Puppy does? I guess one are not allowed to be root?

Sure I love the musical capabilities but if it does not boot on my computer? or does it?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

It does not install frugally, root is through sudo. It runs well off a keypen and and that can be made persistent. As I said, I prefer puppy myself, but we can learn from other distro's. The AVlinux website also has some deb packages that can be installed on puppy:
http://www.bandshed.net/Packages.html

It seemed sad and wrong to hear it being referred to as (pardon me for paraphrasing) 'excrement'

AVLinux live DVD

#256 Post by geo_c »

.

I downloaded the AVLinux4.2 iso

2gb took 8 hours

burned it to DVD

ran it

it booted

and did nothing

the desktop was unresponsive

perhaps my machine is too new or too old?

Code: Select all

-Processors-
AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-62 : 2000.39MHz
AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-62 : 2000.39MHz
makes one appreciate the elegance of PUPPY :D

AVLinux users

should I keep trying?

it does have a lot of applications I would like to access.

In fairness to the puppy users, the place to get help on AVlinux is the AV Linux forum.

I always find it interesting to look at music distros, if only to then be able to install what I find on my distro of choice. From Musix I learned to write shell scripts that launch application combinations (eg Muse/ Hydrogen/ Ardour/jack). AV Linux has a great selection of apps and can be used to build debs, which could be used on puppy. When I used slackware I learned about the italian repos that have a lot of multimedia stuff that will come in useful as it looks like the next major puppy will be slackware based. I have always found value in respecting other distros & seeing how they do things.

geo_c,

Try ArtistX instead.

It boots slowly on my 512mb Pentium 4 but should faster on yours.

A load of apps are waiting for you. And ran reasonably fast o my 512mb antique machine.

I was wondering about doing the same kind of thing for puppy-studio. But I don't know many linux commands.

opening the programs themselves could be just a matter of

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
exec /usr/bin/vlc "$@"
but I have no idea what parameters to define or how
