Dave, life is short enough to forget things that real care.

I´ll say health and friendship shall be the top in everyone list. Don´t forget that people´s friendship gives love with not regrets and also gives support were it is needed (intellectual, phisical or mental support).

You are not alone mate, we will accompany you in your pain.

This really makes me feel very humble and I can't think of a better example of the friendliness of this community and especially the "214X gang."
Thanks fellows.

Now where's that 214X RC ttuuxxx... Only joking. :-)

ttuuxx,
you mentioned in a previous post that retro editions might be on the cards at a later stage - what about a barebones (BB) edition? I keep imagining that a sub-50Mb 214X, with a touchscreen pet added, would be fabulous ported over into an old ARM- or XScale-based PDA, and help weed out the WinCE. I think it would do a much better job than the Angstrom distro anyways. Not being of the computerlitterati however I might well be barking entirely up the wrong tree...
Again, I'm very appreciative of you and all your collaborators for structuring such a beaut puplet/off-shoot/redux as 214X, though I wonder whether you could repackage most of the apps as optionally-extra SFS's to get a sub-50Mb BB up and running? Perhaps you could nickname it as a "neckbrace" (NB) edition, given the nature of the recent thread hijacking?

davesurrey and GF,
I was horrified when news of the accident was first posted - I know of no way to state my support for strangers in your situation that won't appear glib or shallow, other than my heart goes out to you both, and you are never really far from my thoughts. There may be dark times ahead in the path to full recovery, but hang in there.

Dave,

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend  ,but glad to hear she will recover. :) I'm certain it will be a long hard road for both of you, but just take it one day at a time and I'll keep both of you in my prayers.

I've been trying to get Puppy onto my Ausu eee 901. netbook

So far I've tried Puppys 412, 421,and 431 plus tuuxxx's 420v2 and 431.1
But of course I wanted to try good old 214X.

The most important thing with a netbook to me is wifi connectivity. And I need wpa not just wep.

The asus 901 needs the rt2860sta driver. I installed the RT2860-v2.2.0.0-k2.6.18.1.pet Unfortunately it says Unable to connect to the network. Any ideas guys? Did a search and can't find another driver except a v2.1.2.0 which I don't believe does WPA.

The other important thing for me is the display. The 901 needs 1024x600. This is not available in 214X as far as I know. How do I change it?

Can anyone help, please?

Cheers
Dave

Hello, all :)!

I'm actually doing real, proper work now, (as opposed to my normal tinkerin') using 214X16!!!! :D :D :D

Writing on a manuscript, draft at work in MS-Word as usual - but, presently working a lot from home, so wanted to do this in 214X.
Tried AbiWord, OOo220 - kind of works, but scr**s things up when viewing the manuscript in MS-Word again (myself, I don't need to view it in MS-Word again, but in order to have my co-authors review/comment on the manuscript ...).

Installed TeX-Live 2007 (in the end, the manuscript would likely have to be submitted in LaTeX-format anyway) on a separate partition, after a bit of tinkering, it's working like a charm.
To my utmost joy, I discovered that Geany even has highlighting for LaTeX syntax and, moreover, even built-in build commands for LaTeX :D :D :D.

When writing in LaTeX, I normally work in (WinXP  ) MikTex/TeXnicCentre but, TeXLive/Geany/CLI works perfectly.

The built-in "tiff2ps -e" even converts the working-copy-.tif's to the required .eps's.

Just wanted to share this - I'm overly satisfied!!!! :D :D :D

Cheers :)/

I'm converting my wifes PC over to puppy right now, she's a long term windows user, I selected puppies 4.3.1.1 just because her pc isn't very old, has 1gb ram ddr400 ram, AMD 3300, 700GB HD, 20GB swap, only 13GB shows, So I'm going to try install wine and Office 2003 so her docs will work perfectly, She's a councilor so it has to be 100% compatible with her work doc's etc.
I'll let you know how wine works, I've compiled it in the past, but never used it, so its all new to me :)

well I have it working now, msword 2003 :)
My wife is going to be real happy :)
The fonts look like they need a bit of work, kind of pixelated a bit, so in about 1hrs time I should be able to start working on 2.14X RC1

Hi Guys been working on RC1 and well basically its has all the conversions over to "X" for all the sfs's, and Nox boot option, I also added a new application called gmanedit, which is a man page editor/viewer.
What I would like to see in the next release by reading the forum post is that better support for camera's, pcmcia support for usb, icon theme switcher, I had that working once, but its a pain to convert icons etc, hmmm maybe a weekend project :)
Probably the last 2 releases could of been RC status, lol Its a great Os version of puppy, Thanks guys for you continued support with 2.14X.

PS time to start making some SFS for 2.14X for people to enjoy :)

This is AWESOME!

Thanks ttuuxxx, for this beauty and all your hard work. Thanks also to all the guys that have been so meticulous in trying to break it so that it works well.

I've been out of touch with a broken business machine for a couple weeks. Just downloaded X16 last night, actually. Ended up building a whole new machine, but went with Linux as the main operating system (WinXP in virtualbox for ONE Win only app that I have to use for a client), so after 2 years of testing, I finally took the step and it feels great!

I will rework the software lists asap (hopefully over the holiday break this weekend) and post for comments, suggestions, and such. Then start uploading stuff. My hope is that all the packages and extra stuff that has been a by-product of this project is available when the distro goes Final.

Thanks again,
Sully

Tried 214X16 on my old 600MHz 256MB ram machine. Looks fabulous. Two problems:
Running live cd-
Every time I boot, it takes 2.5 minutes (yes 150 seconds) to do the "Copying /pup214R.sfs to tempfs.

When I set up my printer (a Canon i965 connected to a Windows computer) setup went easily, but it won't work. Can't see why. I'll post again if I find what's wrong. (I know all the things that usually go wrong.)
