I am running teenpup .
Just answer, Zigbert, CD-RW would it be possible with Burn, if every thing goes well, or not ?

I shall check deeper after.

CR-RW is of course meant to work with pBurn.

But no one can help out without any information.

It seems to be all ok but just in case, I wanted to ask if the red "missing" notification means something is actually missing. Screenshot below.

It is not ok using the pBurn 4-branch with cdrkit as backend. See main post.
pburn-3.7.18 is the last release supporting cdrkit

But the output of the dependency check is messy ... I guess you have a symlink from wodim to cdrecord, and that might fool the checker a bit.

Pburn burn DVD using mp4 file?

Posted: Wed 06 Jan 2016, 15:50

I am running, lxpuptahr-15.05.2-pae with kernel 3.14.20, and have a question about pBurn.

I am wanting to burn a DVD-video, to play on TV, using an "*.mp4" file.

The reason I ask is, it shows on the "Burn Video" tab:
Formats: *.avi *.flv *.mpg *wmv... etc

Will Pburn 4.3.16 be able to burn it using the *mp4 format, or does it need to be converted, first, to another format like "*.avi"?

Thanks for any replies, festus :)

mp4 is listed as supported video format

Code: Select all

pburn --help

I'm a thanking you for your reply, zigbert .

I'll go ahead and burn the videos, and it'll save me a lot of time not having to convert them to another format.

And thank you for pBurn

I have finally gone full Puppy and although I can solve 90+% of my problems I had to come back to the forum for this one.

I have an album (Music) I recorded several years ago and my original image is a nero NRG. I have tried several versions of Pburn and nrg2iso to convert it however it always turns into a VCD that is unreadable.

Running Tahrpup 6.0.1 updated to 6.0.5
pburn 3.5.3

About the image.

The original nrg includes cdtext for the track list. Could this be the conversion problem?

I have also found when copying a master cd (my original master copy of my album Medicine Walk) cdtext does not show up on the copy.

Is there a way to simply copy my master to a file as an iso and burn from there?

Sorry for all the questions, I have to make some copies for clients.

PS, Feels good to be back ;)

ISO Master is available to create an ISO file and then pburn will burn it.
It was written to duplicate commercial CDs of applications like ADOBE.
I haven't tested it with Audio CDs .

You can't create an .iso for an audio CD, as an audio CD doesn't contain a filesystem.
Normally you would use bin and cue files to create audio CDs.

I was really hoping to get an exact copy since it is already in the cd dstabase. I have also noticed that Pcd doesn't recognize the cd text on the master however VLC does. I am wondering if perhaps K3b might do an exact copy?

I will do a bit more research before I give up on the master copy.

ISO master wikki site (in German) says that it reads NRG
---> Nero's format
Leseunterstützung für NRG-Abbilder (Format von Nero Burning ROM)

After extensive research it appears that I can only do this with Nero. I think my best bet at this point is to remaster the album and re-submit it to all the databases.

I may make one last attempt to boot the old win machine and see if I can save it as an iso from there. it is (in theory) possible to do this with the original program.

Next step is the lightscribe label. ;)
Thanks for the help :)

Once again, you can't save an audio cd as an iso because it doesn't have a filesystem. It is not possible "in theory", so neither is it in practice.

Hi Zigbert - I am having a problem trying to copy an audio CD "on-the-fly" from my laptops inbuilt drive (SR0) to an external usb drive (SR1). It looks as if pBurn should handle this but unfortunately it fails.
I have tried pBurn 4.0.5 and also 4.3.16
(The system has no problems with either drive - I can use pBurn and Peasy disc tools to read and write to/from both drives ok)

EDIT : I should have mentioned that I am using a Slacko 5.6 derivative on the following laptops:
- Acer 5720Z of Windows Vista vintage (2GB ram)
- Toshiba M700 of similar age, also with 2GB ram.

Here is what I do:
- select "copy audio cd"
- Tick "On-the-fly"
- Set "burner device" to SR1 and "input device" to SR0

The error I get is shown in the text below.

After the error appears I checked for the ".inf" file mentioned in the error text but I see no files in the /root/my-documents/tmp/pburn_symlink_tree directory.

Do you have any ideas please?

To greengeek...

I would never try what you have done.
I would rip the CD first to obtain the music files, then burn.

Hi Don - is there any reason why you would not do an on-the-fly copy? Pburn offers the option and I suspect that modern hardware has sufficient processing power and I/O throughput to make it successful (in theory anyway).

The devices are not sharing a common IDE bus so I suspect that there should be no choke point other than cpu and ram?

I used to do this probably 10 years ago on a Windows box so if it can be made functional on Linux I am keen to give it a go.

The error message I am seeing makes it seem like a configuration / scripting problem rather than a real failure or bandwidth issue of some kind.

is there any reason
When you say 'on the fly' -->
mksifos & cdrecord together (piping)

The output of mkisofs can also be piped to cdrecord to burn "on the fly". This means that there is no actual iso image generated, but that the iso being created is written directly to CD.
Advantages:

Faster (for a single burn) ~ mkisofs writes it's images faster than cdrecord can burn, meaning the only time taken is the time it takes to burn, and not write an image and then burn.
Saves temporary space. If you have 650MB's of data waiting to be burned, and ISO image will also require 650MB's, meaning you have to have that amount of free space to burn.

Disadvantages:

buffering an image and burning is more intensive than just burning itself. This can lead to buffer-underruns meaning a coaster instead of a nice new CD.

CDRECORD has the ability to
burn the whole audio CD as one file or each song individually,
but it expects the song to be available as a file on your hard disk.

CDParanoia can be used first as explained here..

I have only one burner device, so can't test this...
from cdda2wav.de:
Q: How can I burn audio cds with cdda2wav and cdrecord on-the-fly?
A: This has not been tested very well, so caveat emptor. It is possible to use cdda2wav and cdrecord with pipes, but there are several issues.

The cd drive may become too slow to keep cdrecords buffer happy, when a scratch on the audio cd is encountered, and several retries take place.
Currently there is no way to carry individual track information from cdda2wav to cdrecord. Several information bits are available very late but are needed in advance from cdrecord.
Some operating systems have limitations in multiple SCSI accesses and other ressources (shared memory). cdda2wav and cdrecord may block each other, or might fight over limited ressources.

For these reasons it is not recommended to burn on-the-fly with cdda2wav.
Either this option should be removed, or someone are able to offer the correct command... There is obviously something weird, as cdrecord is looking for a *.inf file (greengeek's log), and I can't see the logic ??? in such files when burning on-the-fly.

The command is built in /usr/local/pburn/func_build_command, line 70.
