Is it a PET or SFS?
Did you load it by the sfsf_load?

I have couple of questions about this item 6 you wrote:
  1. When you say "Copy additional packages", I assume this refers to ANY.sfs and ANY.pet; is that correct?
  2. And, Can PETs/SFSs be copied without modification?
  3. Or, do they need to be expanded so that only their contents are copied?
Would you kindly answer Yes/No to these please.

Thanks in advance

Yes for the both.
Note that it does not mean they will be automatically installed at boot.

kernel message during unmount of USB stick

If my memory is correct, here's what happened.

I was running Wary quickset with a frugal installation
using the English language. I decided to switch to French.

I had wary-502q-k2.6.32.28.iso stored on a USB stick and it had the
language packs inside.

I clicked once on the ISO to mount it.

The 'Personalise' application gave me an Open Dialog Box
so I could attach the French language pack inside the mounted ISO.

Later I then tried to unmount the USB stick with a right click on
the desktop icon, but I got the warning message that a kernel operation
was in progress.

So I stopped the unmount and everything was okay afterwards :) .

Maybe you needed to click it again to unmount the iso after installing the PET package.
Also for SFS's, the sfs_load offers or automatically copies the SFS so that you can unmount the iso after loading the SFS.

OLPC project has a Spanish version for their computer based
on our work :)

They are distributing it a lot like Wary Quickset
with the Spanish language pack inside the ISO.

Merci shinobar,
have removed /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf
reboot
Yess! now pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace returns to the command line as usual !
Charlie
last edited: hope this helps....I also tried to edit i915.conf doing

Code: Select all

options i915 modeset=0
instead of modeset=1
result: OK! also Ctrl-Alt-Backspace returns to the command line
(I presume it has the same effect than remove i915.conf...)

review of quickset wary505

by don570
Review of quickset wary 505q:

It works fine on my IBM M41 desktop with nvidia Geforce2 mx400
screen resolution 1440x900

...but here is a minor problem.

I installed a fresh 'frugal' installation.

When I first booted up, I got the regular 'firstrun' window.

I chose French (even though I knew that my language pack was
on my USB stick.)

I clicked on 'xorgwizard' to get a higher resolution.

I then went through the regular procedure. I was asked
'Where was my language pack?' I mounted my USB stick and used the
dialog box to find the language pack. However I discovered that
at a screen resolution of 800x600 the OK button was partially hidden.
(see picture)

Image

I know that this is an odd situation, but I thought that I'd report it anyway.

By the way xorgwizard does work in changing the resolution to
1440x900

.... and it is important to remember to unmount the USB stick to
avoid error messages later on.

EDIT: Change the final line to read 'unmount the ISO where the language pack
is located, so that I can unmount the USB stick safely.

SEaMonkey problem in WARY

Barry reports a problem and Shinobar also reports problem with builds and stability in SeaMonkey.

Shinobar had bult a "combined with Flash" SM last year which when I used it, seem to remember that SM problems disappeared.

Maybe its time to have a combined SM from Shinobar for this community to install and use via PPM. Whatever was done that eliminated SM problems before, maybe should resolve problems again.

Hope this helps.
P.S. I just noticed that SM is up to 2.0.12!

Report why system is not seeing $GB

Posted: Fri 18 Mar 2011, 04:35

I have booted 505q in LiveDVD mode and I am not seeing all of the system's 4GB of RAM. See this.

Question: Where is the system's boot log? I would like to present that for review because I think if would help ID these problems..

Separately, 505q is not detecting the active Ethernet connection on eht1 of the system. I thought this was solved. (I have my LAN cable attached to eth1 on the MB; there is NO Ethernet cable in eth0.) "Personalize-Settings" is not detecting missing IP addressing.

I believe these to be general WARY problems.
These are NOT show-stoppers but, should be addressed at some point.

Hope this helps.

Bonjour shinobar!
thanks again for those new wary 505q!
charlie6 wrote:...only ... with "Intel Corporation" Board "82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device"
I could start from live-cd till the locale setup. Upon X server restarting, the display kept being black, even after doing Ctrl-backspace to restart X server .
same problem with 504q and 505q.
Now please read here: rerwin's March 14 second post
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=585
+ download i915_modeset0-0.1.pet here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=38957
I believe adding rerwin's i915_modeset0-0.1.pet fixes it
I installed that pet just after safe mode bootup, before doing the personalize setup.
Now Ctrl-alt-backspace returns to command line without black screen anymore.
Thankx to rerwin!
Cheers, charlie
ps: People in Japan are in our daily thoughts.
