Make a symlink called libFLAC.so.6 to libFLAC.so.8 all in /usr/lib...forget /mnt/home.

By the way I gave up on this version as it works for so long then starts recording with stutters...gone back to 0.2 and oss...seems they have not got the hang of alsa yet

Thanks for the instructions ... but maybe I should uninstall this and revert as well?

How does one uninstall a SFS - just delete the SFS and reboot?

My son is aboutto choke me since he wanted to do some recording this morning and I have been saying - I just need an answer to one more question!

He had Audacity on a different computer, an old Toughbook CF-28 that we are selling, so he'd now like it on his newer laptop.

Off to unload and reload ...

Hy folks!

I installed Audacity following Aragon Instruction of the first message of the thread.
Now I find Audacity in Multimedia Menu, but when I click on it nothing happened.
I'm not so expert, but I like Puppy linux.
Is there anybody who can drive step-by-step to a possible solution?
Thanks
Max

maxtor,

maybe you're also missing a symlink like edoc.

please open a terminal and try to start audacity with audacity. if it does not start, it will give you a message about whats missing. please post here.

@ edoc
sorry about that. possibilities are to use an old audacity or to try mhwavedit (e.g. from the pup4 repository).

@ mikeb
you seem to have much experience with audacity. should i better remove the package as it seems to make more problems than benefits?

I remembered that we had version 1.35 working on another computer so am trying that.

Perhaps the problem that mikeb is experiencing is a memory leak or Audacity 1.37 needs to use storage outside of the Personal Storage File so it doesn't run out of reasources or something else not specifically related to Audacity 1.37 itself?

Are any other 1.37 Beta testers on other Linux distros reporting the same problem or is it either unique to Puppy or mikep's setup?

There are way to many variables for you to give up on 1.37 in Puppy.

BTW: My son is curious as to where your screen name "aragon" originates.

well the most I found out was it may be related to portaudio bugs with certain audio cards so I would not say that everyone will have this problem.
Its not resources at this is tested on a full install and cpu usage is just a few % whilst recording. Certainly is a problem in their code not your compile as this behaviour gets mentioned in their forums.
Also this sounds familiar..
I had problems with audacity 1.3.2 that had been running good in the beginning but suddenly took the habit to crash on every playback.
In the audacity forum they said this was a bug in a library named "portaudio v19" and they fixed it in 1.3.7.
And also no one else has reported a problem like this so I would leave as is for now..

Audacity 1.37 Beta

#29 Post by Peterm321 »

I have been using the previous SFS version for quite I while now and it works quite well with a P3, 384MB ram & 512MB swap partition.

I mainly use it for the Dynamic Range Nyquist plugin available at

Which previous SFS version and where do I find it, please?

The links on an older Audacity thread are all bad, though that wasn't an SFS.

Barry just noted on his Blog that he's going to provide an updated Alsa for 4.3-Beta2, about to be released, perhaps that will sold this aggravating Input Device problem.

OK, I loaded Puppy 421 alongside the Fatdog load so I had a Kernel that matched one of the Alsas.

Then loaded and set up Alsa.

Then loaded and set up MHedit - it is really noisy.

Which version of Audacity should I try?

this one I suppose...if a later alsa does not help then an older (alsa) audacity probably won't fare any better

The Beta version appears to be working fine - thanks!

I need Lame in order to be able to Export to mp3.

Any particular version of Lame?

Best location to download?

Since Exporting is an important feature I wonder why it is not included with Audacity.

Getting closer ...

I tried the lame-398-2.pet file but the new version of Audacity only brings up file labeling and not an Export feature which includes selections like mp3.

Ideas?

I uninstalled MHedit to prevent conflicts.

I also unloaded the lame-398-2.pet I had installed.

Then I rebooted.

Audacity-Preferences-Import/Export-Locate keeps taking me to a blank Geany file.

When I use LOCATE where do I want to look?

I tried /usr/lib where there is a file by that name but it goes back to the blank Geany thing.

I think bizarre is the word that comes to mind

You could try editing /root/.audacity (or might be in a folder) and manually put in
[MP3]
MP3LibPath=/usr/lib/libmp3lame.so
