Hi,
here's a link to a thread where I reported about k2.6.25.16's apparent inability to handle rt2860sta wifi in my Asus EEEPC 1000H (in contrast to k2.6.30.5).

ASUS Eee 1000HE & 1002H/HA wifi HowTo
New(ish) card installed on 1000HE
I believe you'll find that the card installed (in most cases) in 1000hes is a AW-NE766, for which I cannot find a Linux driver which will allow it to connect to any non-open network.
Remove battery, look at one of the two labels revealed, & you'll see the model of your card.
Cheers,
EBear

Yes, that has an AzureWave wifi chipset, which has no Linux driver.EBear wrote:I believe you'll find that the card installed (in most cases) in 1000hes is a AW-NE766, for which I cannot find a Linux driver which will allow it to connect to any non-open network.
So the Eee 1000HES was probably meant to be a Windows-only Eee model, and is not a good choice for an "upgrade" to Puppy Linux ...
but you could probably wrap the Windows driver with ndiswrapper,
or better still, swap that wifi device out (it's a miniPCI card) and replace it with an Atheros/Realtek/Ralink based miniPCI wifi card.
