Code:
# rm -f /etc/init.d/10alsa

*reboot

Running luci 241 frugal on IBM T22 laptop with cirrus logic CS46XX on board.
Setup worked on first boot, lost after rebooting with save file and had to run alsa setup each boot to get sound.
Fixed problem with above script - thanks very much.

Wow! read my mind....I was just thinking of 7zip today.

Great program...especially for Wim and ISO files.

Many thanks....Chris.

ttuuxxx: personally I wonder why by default is installed xarchive rather than xarchiver, I always replace it with one you packaged sometime ago....

I can open these with no problems on 4.2, using xarchiver... I would like Lupu/Luci to be able to do this also. I used it recently in fact, to make the new Firedog, which I had to make in 4.2 cos I couldnt edit the .jar files otherwise!

Lupu seems to have gone backwards from 4.2 (in some places) in terms of Right-Click ROX options, and supported archives... :?

Now you can with the small package above, but jar and xpi files can be edited with xarchive just by renaming the them to zip
like
filename.jar renamed as filename.zip and then try xarchive, but with the 2kb pet above it saves you that step :)
also I made the xarchiver package for 4.2, it was really nice to replace pupzip with it, I still use it, on other versions. Its also located at the puppy 4 repo, http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... Zip-v5.pet

ttuuxxx my improve wrappers already support XZ thanks to techu*(Can't remember the spelling.). Didn't I tell you about UNP. It's a fantastic archive extracting script. I have a "Open With" RoxApp to go with it too which I need to post.

playdayz, my improved Xarchive wrappers are ready for being included in Woof.

Hi abushcrafter how's life? good I hope. Well when I went to open a .tar.xz, .xpi, .7z, .jar they all didn't work before my packages, If you have better scripts for them, or some replacements of them, please post them here :) not every thread is monitored by the developers and sometimes gets lost.

xvidtune persistence problem

Been trying to use xvidtune within Xorg Video Wizard to move my screen to the right a tad on my pc.

In luci241 after doing the shift I do:
(show) then (quit) then (write)
and then attempt to edit xorg.conf as described here:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 1516934481

but in luci xvidtune has not written the necessary lines to xorg.conf so I can't edit them as described to make the change permanent.

In both wary098 and inpu001 xvidtune does alter xorg.conf correctly and the edits can be made and the changes do become permanent.

Can luci / lupu be the same??

Thanks
Peter

Whoa. Mind=blown. O_O
This would be beyond mind blowing! :D
How would it be maintained? Someone would have to keep them up to date. Even so, just offering it would be a big plus to Puppy Linux!

By default lupu does not use xorg.conf like other puppies. We are used to xorg.conf but ever since xorg 7.3 X can configure itself without xorg.conf. Lupu can do it both ways. To create a traditional xorg.cconf., just Menu -> Setup -> Personalize Settings and run xorgwizard. Or, exit to a prompt and run xorgwizard.

Thanks for the clarification playdayz - much appreciated.
I guess the question remains whether xvidtune is compatible with lupu's way of doing things as any changes it makes can't be made permanent? If it doesn't work should it be there? Is there another way to do display tweaks in lupu?

Cheers
Peter

Will customisation center around personality or theme
or both?.
It's a new idea--at least in this context. People have already suggested audio workstation, video workstation, etc.

But there is also a place for superstars--such as ttuuxxx ;-)

And whatever else we are creative enough to make. So let us know when your Time Traveler's Express is ready!!!

I believe that individuals will need to create and maintain each one, and then I can upload them and 01micko can put them in the SFS Getter. It is the SFS Getter, btw, that makes the project feasible.

And shinobar, maybe you would like to make one also. You might have given me the idea with the seamonkey-flashplayer-jre you built.
That was Sit Heal Speak who developed a pet.
He got a message from the developer, who didn't like that initiative and he took the pet out of his repository.

Yes, if you run xorgwizard, then there will be a standard xorg.conf that xvidtune should be able to work with.

Compression.
It is frustrating in my experience to have to search for decompression programs. I agree it would be good to have them in the iso. We have Rar-full in PPM, but now we will have unrar in the iso.

Are there similar programs for 7z and xz? Un-7z and un-xz? That way we could put the full program in PPM for those who needed to use it to compress, and we could have the un-7z and un-xz in the iso for those who need only to decompress.

And what's up with 'ace' and 'arj'?
If no one uses them then I think we should remove them from the Xarchive opening screen so no one sees that as an error.

240: another National Language issue.

At the configuration of my locale, nl_BE, I ticked the UTF button as recommended.

But when I had installed CPUtemp I got a wrong display (see pic)
I un-ticked the UTF button and the values where correct.
But in both cases I have messages when I execute in a console.

Code: Select all

######### locale nl_BE and utf ##########
# CPUtemp
cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory
cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq: No such file or directory

######### locale nl_BE no utf #########

cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq: No such file or directory

My fault Béèm, I think. Where did you install CPU-Temp from? We think that Menu -> System -> CPU Frequency Scaling Tool will be reliable for all computers. Could you try that and see if it works for you? You may have to choose Remove and reboot to get a fresh start. Thank you.

add Pwireless2
cthisbear, We added it and it seemed there were conflicts. Is it that hard to download from Puppy Package Manager?

I have links in my "Puppy Linux Discussion Forum :: View topic - Improving The Wrappers From Xarchive" post. For XZ I use the PET named "xz-4.999.9beta-i486.pet" SHA1Sum="b0b7a581429d3f862665cb06b2ad1f9cda783970". For others I nick them from Peazip.

Downloading it from PPM kind of assumes that you have a working internet connection from wherever your PC is located. If your wireless connection needs Pwireless to work...

On the rare occasions that I want to install something from the internet on Zhaan that I can't just download on Merlin and transfer using a USB key I have to physically carry the machine into the study and plug it into the router! While the Netgear WN111v2 dongle works fine with Merlin, it doesn't with Zhaan even with Pwireless. Haven't figured out what the problem is caused by yet could just be the computer's too old.
