J-pilot

#1841 Post by Volhout »

J-pilot 1.60 compiled for puppy 4 series works on 525. I have a Palm Zire71 PDA that connects via USB so I don't need the "link" and "bluez" PET's.

I have been trying for some time now to develop a help system that will be beneficial to new users.

The attached may not be perfect but it should be of significant help to new comers.

I have not used any graphics in an effort to keep the file size down but I have used a lot of Internet links.

I guess it could be described as an interactive tutorial.

The help file installs to /usr/share/doc and it can be executed from Menu Item Documents.

Smokey01. I downloaded it and will test it. Probably it will be in upcoming Snow Puppy. Well, I suppose I should call it almost Midnight Sun special. I havent taken new summer pics yet, but will soon. My vacation just started and first 4 fishes have been taken to the boat. My 10 year old son got them all. I found several ways not to have fish.
My new book will probably be 1000 ways not to catch fish....
Not sure if it will be bestseller.

Smokey01,

I started looking at your Puppy Help 101.
WOW!!!!!!!!!
How I wish there was something like this when I first started using Puppy!!!!!!!!!!

New People, to Puppy Linux, will be thanking you and now understand how to use Puppy.

Thank you so much for this!!!!!!!!!

A lot of the links seem to actually open and run the programs the info is telling you about.
Does this mean any thing you do with that program is for real? I mean you are working the program and changing stuff?

Now for the but. You asked.
Just a minor thing. You need to click twice on the links. In the intro you tell people about having to click twice on the links, but it was easy to overlook or sink in about clicking twice to open link. We are so use to one click in Puppy and browsers to open links.

May want to make this a separate topic if you get a lot of input.

Again,
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's live. Almost like another menu system.

It's a Notecase thing and it needs to do double clicking or it would be difficult editing links.

Thanks pemasu.

It could be easily adapted to all Puppies. Mind you it has taken quite a bit of time, for goodness sake don't raise the topic with my wife

The file is actually a HTML file and it can be found in /usr/share/doc/PH101-001.ncd so it could be PDF'd or read with a browser.

It looks better in Notecase though.

The text says "click HERE".

Why not just have it say "double-click HERE"?

Sorry Smokey....

I meant, 'Is your Help 101 available as an HTML file - without downloading/installing the dotpet?'

To be able to browse it with a fault or without a network connection may be useful sometimes....?

If you could post it in the help thread, that would be cool.... thanks :D

Start Mount Stop

4/ When I want to "automount" partitions / drives at power up, how can I do this ?? (this is of coarse a question that has nothing to do with 525, but is generic linux). I expected a checkbox in Pmount, but didn't find it. So I may have to divert to commandline....
You can use this program to auto-mount on boot-up.
Startmount

Hi Bigpup

When my system starts I every time get a popup from Startmount. And confusing enough, the way to remove the popup is by pressing CANCEL, not OK (becuase that brings up a menu where you can change things).

Any idea how to start without a popup ???

Go to the Startmount topic and post your question. They would be the ones to know the answer.
You have the link to the topic.
Now you got me wondering how?
The answer to your question is here:

Stupid is when you do not ask.
Now we both learned something.
