Lucid Puppy 5.2.7 RC2
James C, Can you try XineDVD from PPM if you get a chance.? Thanks.I can confirm problems with Mplayer..... trying to watch a dvd fullscreen results in the audio and video never being synchronized..... the audio lags quite a bit behind and never seemed to catch up.
Oh, and do you have Xorg_High or proprietary video drivers installed? I wonder if that is needed for good DVD replay?
Is this a new development with gnome-mplayer? Or just never noticed before?

As you are probably aware pemasu has such a facility in his polar pups (ice/snowpup etc)Maybe someone will write a no blank app for the menu, that does just that one thing.
xlock --h
in console will give a list of options for xlock which is causing the blanking - Can one turn it off or uninstall?
Can it be run with such an option before mplayer/vlc?
All through the Lucid series if I run a movie in mplayer after about 40 mins, the video stops and the sound goes into a horrifying loud and horrible loop. Yuk
Have to restart x and then I usually install VLC. Could it be some sort of memory cache build up?
It sounds like it is running out of something. or filling up something. Have you tried XineDVD for DVD playback? Is that what you meant by '"movie."All through the Lucid series if I run a movie in mplayer after about 40 mins, the video stops and the sound goes into a horrifying loud and horrible loop. Yuk

I intended to put XineDVD in as a default app in 5.2, but we ran out of space. As I recall it gave better DVD playback. DVD playback is like a special application--I mean there are mediaplayers and there are dvd players.
I'll try XineDVD in just a few. I'm on the Nvidia box with the Nvidia driver installed.playdayz wrote:James C, Can you try XineDVD from PPM if you get a chance.? I'll reboot into Lucid 525 later but if memory serves MPlayer was fine. I'll confirm that in a bit too. On to XineDVD.....

I say Help icon on desktop should run Puppy Help 101.
Also should be in
menu->help

Luci-262 - 2nd developement release for Lucid 5.2.6
I'm running 262 by booting from the live cd with a save file.
I renamed the lupu_devx_525.sfs to luci_devx_262.sfs and loaded it and
the kernel_src_L4-2.6.33.2-patched.sfs file and installed the
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.09.07.run driver for my card.
I downloaded the umplayer source and compiled it and it's working fine.
That's it so far.

About Gnome mplayer audeo video out of sink.
Went searching and found this info.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-84 ... art-0.html
http://code.google.com/p/gnome-mplayer/ ... rtcuts.txt
Found this on the Mplayerhg Frequently asked questions.

Q:
The audio/video gets totally out of sync when I run MPlayer as root on my notebook. It works normal when i run it as a user.
A:
This is again a power management effect (see above). Plug the external power connector in before you power on your notebook or make sure you do not use the -rtc option.

This box has a Nvidia GeForce 8400GS PCI-x card and Quickpet recommends Xorg_High?
Ummm, not right.
Look at the pretty desktop....

Here's gRun, a good replacement for gExec. The menu entry might need to be fixed for Openbox/JWM, I'm on E17 atm so I can't make a menu entry.
The PET has DOC/NLS stripped, because one string of text and two buttons aren't worth the extra size.
